For the person that asked, AFAIK, the train featured in the opening credits is Amtrak's Crescent (years ago called the "Southern Crescent", run by the Southern Railway until 1979). It still runs today between New York and Lousiana with newer locomotives, Amfleet and Viewliner cars. Beautiful, comfortable train that's still well patronized. Runs over 100mph speeds between NY & Washington and good stretches of 80mph running between Washington and New Orleans.

Understandably you were actors doing a job, but in watching the show one gets the impression that as a group the cast seemed to have a reputable, family-like bond inspite of the personal problems that cropped up. Of course problems that any human being can have.

It shows how wide a range Carroll O'Connor had. He went from playing bigot Archie Bunker to Bill Gillespie, who was married to a Black woman in the series.

That couldn't have happened in the movie, which came out when several states still had laws against interracial marriage.

Fortunately, to me, Howard/Rollins makes up half of the Phillies infield! ;-)
