being a dabbler in the arts of mentalism, I searched derren's "recommended reading" on his website. Not finding quite what I was looking for, I discovered the "Magician's Only" section, and was very pleased when I entered the password correctly. After purchasing "The Devil's Picturebook", I am still searching for a practical method to his "Oracle Act". Thank you for letting me know how this was accomplished so effectively. (sorry for the tremendous amounts of quotation marks)

Hi , I would like to know how this is done (in full). I've re-watched my DVD several times and have noticed several things, and I know the traditional one-ahead method but, as you said, Derren performs it flawlessly and I'm just not sure on a couple of details.

.( this method could be done wirelessly as well.). the information he reads out IS the information from the audiences cards, but he pretends to read them from the fake ones. if you watch the show, at one point you can see him holding an envelope with no writing on it, but then apparently reading it afterwards. I promise this is how it's done, maybe with one or two tweaks to the method, and very clever ones,

the actual way he does the oracle act is, somewhere between the interval and when the show starts again, an assistant swaps the contents of the bowl for fake envelopes, this is done very VERY sneakily, on the "offbeat" as magicians call it. the audience don't see the switch and the information gets from backstage to derren by a magnetic connector on derren's foot, connecting to one on stage which acts as a wire and is fed up through his body, and is communicated into his ear.(

well i made this video a long time ago, and i didn't get a chance to say everything i wanted to say, i just sort of babbled in the video a bit,.

i recently went to his live show, enigma, and he does a similar routine where he switches bits of paper for earlier prepared ones.

I think you utterly failed in trying to pick this one apart. This is a live show, if he lied and people knew, as they clearly would after having done a card, everyone would have told everyone else at the show, and then the thousand or so who did this over time would have said something to the media in some form (I would). Next, if he put something on the envelopes to make it translucent, do you really believe it would have left all the envelopes completely unmarked, which you can see.
