I met Ryushin during my first introduction to zen at ZMM in 1992. He is a very genuine person--the "real deal" when it comes to spiritual practice. I would say he is "extraordinary" but I'm sure he would quickly correct me to say that it is precisely his ordinariness that makes his practice and experience relevant to the rest of us.
