  • I was just about to upload my arrangement of Claire de Lune when I found yours. Gaaah!

Mine still has the training wheels on by comparison. And now it's led me to all your other stuff. Wonderful. I'd compare you with early John Renbourne but there's so much more going on. Oh, and let's have a daylight version of the Debussy please.

  • You are by far the best, talented and most creative soul I have crossed paths. It is my sincere desire God will Bless You and Keep You Forever, you are an evolved soul who inspires the heart and compels us to be better people. Thank you for being only a small part of my life. God's Peace. Bobby

  • Hey Andrew!

I've been watching a lot of your vids lately, even more than when I found out about your music about 5 months ago. This one simply blew me away, man!

Howcome Candyrat or some other of the big ones hadn't found you out yet?

Man... Your better than MOST of them!

Congratiolations! And thank your for sharing all this. You will always be an inspiration!

  • Andrew, this one is so beautiful. Musically & technically, one world - perfect!

  • i saw u play in down town live and you were just amazing and u r in this bideo to.. one of ur best :) and im going to see ur concert .. so excited...

  • @pawsrcute21 HEY!!!! Thanks! Sorry I haven't had a lot of time to check youtube. I can't tell who this is exactly (I went to your profile and didn't see anything...) but I'm really excited to share some music with you in a REAL setting :) The other players at the show are really great too !!!

  • I love your playing, amazing technique I been playing for 20 years (mostly electric, amp turned up to 11) but this makes me crap my pants I can hear what other people might call "sloppiness" but to me that just adds to it (makes us amateurs think we could learn it) - human moments in the middle of some super-human co-ordination but first and foremost "THE FUNK"! And once more with feeling. No-one wants to listen to a damn machine if you ever came to England I reckon you would be massive.

  • Listening to Michael Hedges is inspiring and positive, at the same time my heart just aches that he left so soon. His talent has to come from some intangible source as it resonants with almost every human being who is afforded the opportunity to hear him. To me, he is the personification of creative talent that manifested in the subtle and loving aspects of all humanity. He is missed and will forever be remembered. Bobby

  • this is like ear porn, Andrew, you freaking kick ass! btw, it's Steven! figured i've been addicted to your tunes long enough that i would start commenting :P still freakin' love this song!

  • thanks, this kind of sound makes you go away in the universe...

  • haha I can hear those Pat Metheny styled key changes (or chord progressions-- I don't exactly know the technicalities) that make me smile. I like. Your music never ceases to amaze.

-Somebody that is very hard to please.

  • AMAZING!!!

  • This song makes me happy

  • dude, i think i prefer this version to your most recent post!

you should have won the guitar idol with this easily!

    ^_^

  • @richyo1000 I think as far as the production of this video goes, yes it is better... but many of the musical things that excite me about this piece are lost in this performance... and the tempo is more like Rather Jog With You LOL

  • I was about to leave. Then I heard these amazing sounds, and it made me want to stay.I threw away the bullet. Thank you.

  • be sure to check out the redone video from the winter series! It's the video response :) you get a much better idea of what is happening musically

  • Please teach me.... I've been wanting to play this style for sooo long.

  • Have you ever thought about starting a Springsteen cover band? You'd be perfect!

  • Great music....you should get some better quality videos up! =)

  • Sweet taps man. Definitely felt like it was musical too, not just an attempt to look good.

  • youre fuckin sick!

  • i didnt know what to say when i read your myspace... this world need ppl like u with your music talent i rlly hope u dont give it up... u will be missed i hope u keep playing as a hobbie.. just dont give up please =*(

  • Dude I noticed on your myspace that you're throwing in the towel, and as a prospective musician (admittedly in a completely different genre, like other end of the spectrum different) I find that completely depressing, because if someone with as much amazing talent and dedication as you can't make it then we're all fucked.

I was spewing when you didn't make it to the final of Guitar Idol with this because you totally deserved it. Shame to see you give it up.

  • ...yeah, the world can do a number of things to you. It can chew you up and spit you out, or it can swish you around on its palate for a while, then swallow, and eventually piss you out... I was the bottle of bourbon that people talked about trying but never really got around to it. Not because it wasn't good, but it just didn't seem like a good idea.

To be honest, I'd rather people just poured it out instead.

  • Shit gets hard. Then it gets harder man. Life throws all these hooks at you. You just haven't found the right spot in life to put your talents to good use. Always hold onto the last thread of the towel, even if it's burning. Someday someone will acknowledge your brilliance...other than your already hardcore fans.

Good luck, Andrew. I can tell you'll need it.

  • Why stop playing and making albums? You should be playing for the joy of it, not to get recognized or signed. Andrew, you have talent, but don't let it stop there. Music is not a talent show, and we shouldn't all be waiting to be discovered. Play for the fun of it and release independent albums because you love music, not because you want people to notice you. Please, keep playing. I'm sure there are thousands of others who would agree with me on this one.

    Just my two cents.

  • hehe... I think you're taking it differently than I meant, but I must remind you, there are two players in the game of art... those sending, and those receiving. If there's no one on the receiving end, there's not much fun to the game.

  • Just like the spirit of Michael Hedges will always live on - the spirit of Andrew Gorny will always live on. Yes, it's sad to see this much talent "wasted", but I'll always be grateful and lucky to have found Andrew here on YouTube, and to have learned from him. Songs like Beatin Tha Gutz and Polygons will never be surpassed in my book, for their sheer musicality, creativity, and spirit. Thank you Andrew for all that you have done/ given - you are truly a great musician, record label or not!

  • Man, you got some chops Andrew! If I'm ever up in Portland I'm gonna have to come check you out...

  • nice job man :')

  • 0.44 - 1.03 brought a smile to my face... even Andrew smiled at the end of that part... :)

  • Sei fortissimo troppo grande...vorrei tanto essere un tuo alievo.....sei un dono della natura...spero tanto che mi rispondi......

  • Marry me? ~lol~ :)

  • excellent.

  • I posted this at Erik Mongrains forum and he said .. "Heh that's not bad at all actually.". Erik is very careful about handing out compliments, if your music isn't musical he will not like it and let you know. So, I think this is a nice compliment from another incredible guitarist.

  • haha, thanks man!!! Erik's got some pretty cool ideas up his sleeve these days!!!

  • Very nice

  • Man, how long did it take you to disect all of the left hand polyphonic action, like did you start off slowly and gradually work your way up to a faster tempo? I can play it reasonably clean from intro up to the bridge at 0:44

But with the bridge and chorus that follow, it's hard to hear (let alone play) those techniques :P Maybe I should be paying more attention to the right hand?....

  • Yeah, the chorus section is 2 parts, they're both the same chord progression. The first part the right hand is clearly more important, because I'm basically just holding a chord and keeping the tapped notes goin...

I definitely don't play it nearly this fast anymore, and I also play it different in parts, with a lot more string stopping. This was roughly a week after I wrote it, so it was still a sketch, basically.

  • I'm excited to see what you have so far! This is a really fun tune to play, especially when you iron out the phrasing. I'm not really playing it to my own specifications on this video. You should hear the version on my myspace. :)

    Take care! -ag

  • Yeah man I'm constantly visiting your myspace listening to all of your studio recorded versions :D Particularly "Rather Walk With You", with it's steady pace I can hear the your left hand clearer, all of the powerfull hammer-ons & what not... I'll catch on ;)

    Peace.

  • absolutely awesome! are you using CGDGAD?

  • not quite... more like CGDGBE

  • may b not.. lolz.. but good looking guitar and equally good music..5star

  • That girl that was walking in the background was totally checking you out and you missed it, because you were playing your guitar about meeting a girl How ironic! Ha HA!:^)>

  • i think that was a guy!!

  • aha. i lol'd at the tag "fine girls"

  • lol of course! I gotta tap into the "creep geezer" demographic!!!

  • insanely beautiful !!!!!

  • Nice job, the Hedges influence is evident...and a great influence to have! Keep it up.

  • Love your videos so much, thank you!

  • you have my vote

  • hey dude you are awesome!

  • i voted for you on Guitar Idol =D

  • Sounds cool. A lot of guys who try to do the whole excessive harmonics, tapping acoustic thing end up sounding way too jangly if you know what i mean.

  • This is great, the sound is beautiful. You added me on myspace today, and your music was fantastic...

  • Just beautiful, I loved it.

  • a masterpiece only a real genious could make

  • Wow! I discovered your music looking for Hedges "Hot Type" and now seeing this, well I'm amazed. This is the same way I discovered Erik Mongrain and Giovanni Baglioni and you guys are just awesome. Can't wait to watch more of your stuff, but this tune truly blew me away.

  • An excellent peice showcasing technical ability, but also a good sense of variety with a lyrical flow to the music without a need for words.

Highly effective and well suited to the concept of the piece.

And I'm not a fan of general fingerstyle picking. I couldn't listen to Polygons for more than 30 seconds or so...

  • @escelar

Try CandyRat Records. Don Ross wouldn't be a bad way to start.

  • How long have you been playing; study a lot of music theory?

  • You are the number one.. your talent is impressionant.. you will play on a park bench not for a long time!

    sorry for my bad english!

I enjoys your plaining from Italy!

P.s. thanks for your "speedy" Aerial boundaries version!

  • This is talent. The trash they throw out of 'xfactor' & britains got 'talent' doesn't even compare to this.

  • Man Andrew I think Ive been a fan of yours for a good year but I still listen to your stuff more than any metal now, its just so good! Congrats!

  • This piece is absolutely awesome. I hear your influences, but you take it to a completely different place that is all your own.

I am also an alternate tunings enthusiast, and wonder if the carbon fiber acoustics hold up better to the funky tunings, or not. I am shopping now for another axe (you can never have too many) that can handle them, if it exists. I even noticed Hedges tended to spend a lot of time getting in tune...

  • realy like this i can totaly relate to the song mang no one walk with me even from school

wow im a lonley bastard but music helps

  • nice it's sympathic ^^

  • Magical-alot of images flash through my head as i listen.

  • A future candyrat artist?????

  • Hope not.

But I hope he's really successful anyway. This kind of talent shouldn't be grouped with Candyrat guys.

  • why not

  • Dude that was Awesome!!!

  • great stuff original, hope the music career works out, you have the talent as a writer, and musician keep it up

  • Sound quality sounds F*ing marvelous to me haha.

Where's the incense ;) Man you really have mastered Hedges style, I'm following the works of Antoine Dufour,Don Ross etc, and they are all amazing too, amazing song writers,But I listen to you because your stuff is so different.. Lookin out for that new cd bro! my 20 bucks is in the jar waiting for it haha.

  • As well as you being an amazing song writer yourself. :)

  • creatively brilliant and technically deft, this is definitely some great stuff that is underappreciated. keep it up, and dont let all the comparisons ppl make get to you, this style is definitely original and has a disposition all your own.

  • This is absolutely incredible. I love this style ofplaying (I've been following Justin King for a few years) and you do it quite well. I'll keep an eye out for the CD!

  • great playing, a really innovative and interesting style. beautiful

  • beautiful ...

but at bad sound quality,○| ̄|ˍ......

    record it again plz.

  • hehe, or you can check it out on the new CD coming out in a few months!!! The sound quality on the new CD is really good I promise!!!

  • Your music makes me feel great. I second Whitelinefillms. :)))

  • This brought a tear to my eye..Very beautiful ..New subscriber here.

  • that is so MEGA LOW ... you gotta tell me what tuning your using here :) .. very nice .. thanks for stopping by my channel :) Did you see Mike Berk's comment ? He's really cool. one of our brothers from acoss the oceans .. listening as i write, love the progression of this. 5 stars from me

    your friend jeff

    Jeff Williams / guitarist

  • You might be my new favorite.

  • Beautiful job Andrew.

  • Absolutely stunned. It's got brilliance written all over it.

    Great job.

  • Along with A Dying Angel my favourite tune. Musically delicious and technically impeccable. Keep on doing your fantastic work :D

  • loved it, especially that beginning phase

  • This is an incredible performance!

  • Man play some stuff from your first CD!!!

    Brian

  • i like the part where you look up...probably at some fine honey. i really felt it at that moment.

  • oh yeaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!

  • One of my favorites from you so far. The sound you get from those open strings reminds me of Michael Hedges. I really like the phrasing too. You've come a long way, Mr. Gorny.

  • Excellent contrapuntal work... Five stars!
