I made this collation long before "Midnight" aired. I imagined at the time that the big bad of series 4 had something to do with The Darkness - it turned out it was Davros, but I wonder if it will appear again in the Nap Year, or if Mr Moffatt might return to the concept in Series 5???

Bad wold doesn't exactly mean the end of the world. Bad Wolf Bay was where the Doctor and Rose said good-bye in one of the other universes. So if that message starts appearing everywhere, that means it's the end of the worlds because nobody but Rose would know about it and it Rose is sending messages to this world there must be universal leaking and that's a sign that the world is gonna end. Now we know why those words followed them everywhere they went. Rose was sending them from the future.

Looks like Davros and the Daleks are causing the darkness this time - but I still think that there is a possibility of a return of The Beast and other bad guys currently "banished" like the Carrionites and The Great Vampires etc etc etc

Ahhh - from Love and Monsters - the "Doctor lite" episode from Series 2.

In that, Elton is drawn in to investigating The Doctor, due to an experience in his childhood where he saw The Doctor in his house, and never connected the event with the death of his mum.

I actually think this is one of the more significant clips in my videoessay. And this coming week we will finally see the Shadow Proclamation and maybe hear some more about The Void/Hell/The Howling as well!

I actually really hated this episode and hadn't seen it again until I went on my darkness quest, and I must say I really appreciate it now. It does not look good on paper with the awful Absorbaloff monster and the girlfriend in the slab of concrete, but apart from those little moments, the rest is well worth the effort!

It was meant to be ambiguous, but I am sure that The Doctor burned the funeral pyre on Malcassario, so I reckon whoever picked up the ring had to have a way of getting there - which means a TARDIS, or a Vortex Manipulator, or whatever it is that Rose is using to pop in and out of Donna's life . . .

See the big problem with all this speculation now (I realized this last night) is that pretty soon, it won't be RTD's ship anymore. So it will be up to the wonderful Mr. Moffatt to decide who he wants it to be, even if it's a completely different direction than RTD had in mind. Same with anything that has been set up over the last 4 years. AAAAARRRRRGH! This show certainly does keep you on your toes!

there is something more to this Darkness than just Davros, the word has been woven into the last 4 series to just be him. I mean Davros is bad but I think we are selling the writers short to think they just have him up their sleeves.

I agree, I think it is The Beast in The Darkness.

If you assume The Darkness is the same place as The Void/Hell/The Howling, and that Rose was onto something when she said "Go to hell" as The Beast fell into the Black Hole, and that The Beast "can never die" then he is in Hell now - and will be keen to escape and avenge himself on The Doctor.

Davros, The Master, even the mysterious Trickster - all are smallweeds compared to The Beast!

In the clip from Smith & Jones, I think the woman was talking about the darkness of death to the Doctor (she thought he'd die after she sucked his blood), but other than that the rest make sense.

I am curious now that the shadows blamed for killing Elton's mum are not the same shadows in Silence in The Library (Elton's mum was dead but not stripped to the skellington), wonder if we will ever get to meet Elton's shadows???

Well, I am nervous about just how much Torchwood's references to the Whoniverse can be thought of as truly canon . . .

And Torchwood seems to think the Darkness is a kind of after-life that both Owen and Suzie went to when they died, and I don't think that is something The Doctor would agree with somehow.

I am pretty sure, anyway, that RTD et al will seed plenty of clues for us in Who to be getting on with! Torchwood and Sarah Jane are just for fun, really!

I just say that darkness is death, the end, something like that. XD If you take it from Torchwood that after you die, there is ... nothing. Only DARKNESS. And if you take it that '...irrational fear of the dark. but they're wrong. 'cos it's not irrational ...' and that survival instincts mean we have an embedded fear of death SOMEWHERE, even if we don't seem as scared of it as some, I would say that the darkness is simply death/before life. BUT I'M MOST LIKELY WRONG. So y'know ignore this rant.
