  • sorry jeff I'm a newbie in using the keytar. Does it means if I get the normal keytar without a program I cant do the strumming that you are doing?

  • @zeinchua You have to have the software instrument to do what i do. This can be done from almost any midi keyboard.

  • can i use just any normal keytar and install your program? or do I have to get your keytar?

  • Too cool!

  • @garsett Thanks!

  • counting crows! VERY NICE!

  • @TheRyanBerlin Thanks!

  • I really appreciate the quick start video. I got Real Guitar and Real Strat about 3 weeks ago for my studio, to go with my Superior Drums and Trilian bass. You've really taken the edge off the learning curve for me. Thank you!!!

  • @MrHardways Thanks for taking the time to acknowledge this. You are VERY welcome!

  • This guy is terrific, but you don't have to play fast to sound good. If you started with it to just have fun, I bet you would be surprised how fast you would get good at it. You could still play a lot of classic rock, country and blues without being this fast.

  • hi...that solo in the beginning is just too gud...just wanted to know sumthn...i have installed RealStrat......but does it have only one tone...i mean that Electric Strat tone?

  • @shiba285 You need to buy your amp sims. Please take a look at my new videos posted this week. I hope that explains this some.

  • This is awesome, without any doubt. But I am curious, how long it would take a Beginner to get good and usable Results. Maybe it is easier to learn to play the Guitar.

  • @Neocron It does require you to have a "keyboard" backround. Anyone that studies my 101 video should have a grasp on it in days. To get GREAT at anything requires, practice. Good Luck&Have Fun,

    jeff

  • Sounds so good it even looks fake but I know it isn't. I wish I could play like you do.

  • @artrocker65 again, it's just practice! Tahnks for the comment,

    jeff

  • I would very much like that exact keytar, or one with that exact guitar sound you had on at the start. You are awesome.

  • @DJT1611 The Sounds can be had for sure!

  • LOL dude ur like uncle Fester from the Adams family Rocks LOL your the man dude

  • @Marcusblade Hey, all us bald guys look alike::))

  • Hey man, please answer...What keytar are you using? Doesn't look neither a Roland AX Synth nor a Roland AX7 to me...

Thanks in advance...I just want to rock like hell like you do :p

  • This is a "custom" Keytar that was made for me using the guts of a Roland Ax-1.

    Thanks for the comments::)

    jeff

  • it´s amazing!!! good job Jeff

  • Thanks::)

  • holy fuck you're amazing!

  • @jian2069

    Thanks VERY Much!!

  • i just learned the repeating notes thing and the muting notes its really funky ¡¡¡¡

    thanks jeff ¡¡¡¡

  • GREAT!!

Also remember those same keys can be used for repeating chords. I will show this in my next video!

    jeff

  • Thanks!

  • That's one happy keyboard player. I mean, really. So happy.

  • men i'm getting an ax-7 =D so happy whats the name of that keytar?

  • This is one from the "jeff abbott" signature series.

    and welcome to Keytaring::)

    jeff

  • It's amazing, but the only thing that is lacking is that the attacks sound all the same in some parts of playing. Once you know they are samples, you can tell. Other than that, some times it sounds just like the real thing.

  • Actually you have complete control dynamically over the attacks. For sure i will illustrate this in future video. Thanks for the comments!

  • This is combination of the RealPerson plugin being used with Real Guitar. Amazing how it looks like an actual person is playing a real keyboard which triggers Real guitar when it's simply all rendered 3d models and plugins. ;-)

  • funny!

  • God Jeff, that is fantastic. Love the Keytar too! I miss my Roland Ax1s!!

  • Thats awesome Jeff! keep up the good job..and let me know when you are playing that in Clarion. I will come to watch!

  • LOL@ "my wife reserves the right to call me sweetheart" LOL LOL LOL LOL hahahahhahaha... (LULZ) xD

I'm not a homo just thats the first time i see a guy write sweetheart@another guy on youtube. Awckard =\

  • cultural differences... and also, 50 years ago people used to say they were gay when they meant happy, lol.

  • thats hella tight

  • Thanks!

  • Take care, Jeff!

  • Hi Jeff,

English is so dry that scars. It is a cultural missunderstanding. Nothing irespectful, because there is not a sexual connotation on that.Overall women, we use to use sweet words to thanks somebody that has been good or helpful, a woman, a man, a child...,and that person, instead of taking it badly, will appreciate it, because it is nice, like a smile or to do a good thing for somebody. If you take it so badly, you should not come to Florida, or you will have a heart attack. Ja,ja.

  • Hi sweetheart,

Jeff, I bought a Real Guitar2 before you answered my question, but thanks a lot for everything!! Jeff, can you recommend me a nice Hero Guitar Controller, and tell me where I can buy it?

    Thanks again, Jeff!,

    Kris.

  • Steve,

You will need to use a keyboard to play the RG2 software, not a guitar hero controller.

P.S. My wife reserves the right to use the word "sweetheart" with me.

    Take Care!

  • can i get the software to use with my keyboard

  • Yes, for Mac OR PC!

  • For PC or MAC!

  • Both!

  • Hi!

Where can I buy RealGuitar/RealStrat 101? I could not find it.

    I appreciate it,

    Kris.

  • kris got to the musiclab website and order from there.

  • Just here to say: Even with my little intention of buying this product, you manage to entertain wonderfully. Great freakin' job.

  • Thanks!!

  • Thanks!

  • Hey Jeff -

I know its a lot to ask; but I love the lead used in the opening of this video (the distorted one)....Would it be possible for you to send me the settings you used for it? I use guitar rig 3 as well as realstrat and would love to be able to duplicate this lead for my ax-7 :)

  • Sure! Send me an email.

Now i must make you aware that to get it 100% you will need to be on a Mac. Perfection= MainStage.

  • damn!!! i will buy this plugin, thanks for the review. You are a AMAAAAZING singer too man.. looking forward to hear more from u

  • Thanks. If things go as planned, the next Tutorial video will happen by the end of September.

  • Hi another great video Jeff.... Terrific playing and use of technology as always.

By the way I love the look of your new custom built Keytar.

Keep on making the vidoes players like you give the keytar the credibility it deserves

an instrument in its own right,

  • Thanks, and the most important thing for me is that "Keytaring" is eventually accepted as its own art form. I have and will continue to dedicate myself to this goal.

  • I'm still convinced that you are one of the best keytar players i ever heard.. Congratz man! keep the good work and AX1 ruleZ! :D

  • Thanks VERY much and I'm getting better at with more practice.

  • Damn you are amazing.

Only thing is I've been trying for days to figure out how to use Realstrat with Guitar Rig - Can't seem to get the input to go.

  • You are awsome!

Can you tell me the settings you used in realstrat, and amplitube(?) in the beginning of the video?

    thanks!

  • The amp sim is a custom setup from "Guitar Rig 2". If you have GR I'm happy to share.

  • I do, can you upload the preset somewhere?

  • Send me an email, also let me know if you are using "mainstage"

  • thanks, that explained me a lot, but i got a question:

does every keytar have this software? and can u play other tones on a keytar than a guitar? maybe a piano-tone or a violin? i that possible?

but u still play so good, i think i'll never beat that :D

  • Sounds are dependent on your choice of sounds and instrument(s) Each are completely setup by the user.

    Thanks for the comments

  • Jeff, you are the man! :-)

  • Thanks Guy! I Still want to come PianoJam with U.

    Keep in Touch!!

  • omg everyone is such a critic!! realstrat is f'in amazing peice of software, maybe you can't hear, turn your speakers up more!

this snap sounds great jeff! screw tha haters! oh and keytars are badass!

  • I'm Ok with the critics, really.

You are correct, the software is AMAZING!

    Thanks for the comments

  • The acoustic guitar is great, but I still miss all the fret noises and the left hand position changes (=the human effort on a live guitar). So even though the sound and your performance are fantastic, there is still that last hint of the infamous "harpsichord" sound resulting when an acouistic guit is emulatied by software plus keyboard based interface. Otherwise: fantastic!

  • Actually you have control of the noises and left hand positions.

Even guitars, since they are string based have a bit of harpsichord sound at times.

    I do appreciate your comments.

  • Thanks. I do not criticize. Your performance - and the software/interface are absolutely fantastic. I just want to say tghat we are still trying to emulate the real thing. So all the inspiration and all the heart and soul come from the real thing. Same with any software emulation. That's why they all are getting better and better. In fact this also works in reverse: since there are many fantastic software emulations of acoustic/non-keyboard instruments, the musicians need to be real good!

  • hey jeff. where did you get the shell for this keytar?

  • This was custom made for me. The creator of this will make others for folks on demand. If you are interested email direct.

  • Your voice is really awesome . Have you played guitar before? Just wondering

  • Thanks and no, i have never played guitar,.

  • Nice Vst sound

but iIsn't is easier to play guitar than keyboard?))

  • Not playing guitar i don't know. But i can image it requires the same practice&dedication ethic.

  • Incredible video for an impressive sounding virtual instrument. Are Real Strat and RealGuitar one instrument or are they purchased seperately?

    Tx

    gp

  • They are separate but can be bought in a package.

  • nevermind then

  • how the hell do you get your ax-1 customized like that ?

  • Ciao ! thanks for this tutorial! RealGuitar/Strat it's an amazing Vst!

  • You are more than welcome!

  • Un-be-frikin-leivable! I was looking for drum VSTs and feeling comfortable that my chosen instrument could never be emulated... and then I saw this! Great playing Jeff, you must have worked hard to adapt your keyboard technique to play guitar on this. Awesome video, 5 stars.

  • Wow and Thanks for the GREAT comment. I'm still working on getting good at this and will be for a long time. The depth of this software instrument is really amazing. I look forward to sharing my discoveries with all of the viewers.

  • You are still an amazing artist. I enjoyed watching your videos.

    Gretta (Neier) Casanova

  • Gretta, Thanks and send me an email and let me know how things are, jeff

  • hi i live in uruguay(south america) do you know how i can get this program from here?

  • go to the musiclab website and I'm sure they will be a link.

If you cannot find an answer email me direct and i will assist.

  • IN-figgin-SANE! [Screams like 9 year old girl]. I have never wanted a VST instrument so badly. Thanks for the breakdown.

  • You are Quite Welcome.

    These instruments REALLY are amazing!

  • Just got Realguitar & am loving it. Thanks again.

    Ciao

  • Awesome!

  • Hey Jeff,

I've been a fan for a long time, your work with RealGuitar is great. I've always wondered about your paint jobs on your keytars, I'm a bit aprehensive about handing such a valuable bit of equipment to my autoshop to get it sprayed. I don't like the idea of letting people at the innards of it.

Can you give me a bit of info about how you went about getting yours coloured and things?

Also, that custom casing is IMMENSE! -Zach

  • Zach,

I remove the top of the AX-1 and take that for the painting.

I agree would be risky to let them have the entire instrument.

I then sit with the auto paint folks and decide on color.

Expect to spend $100-150.00 for the job

And yes, the Keytar in this video is Awesome::)

  • Thank You Jeff!

Even if I'm not keyboard(nor guitar) player I like this video, good introduction to realstrat & realguitar.

As some people ask I'll try to answer clearly about how this thing works : The sound doesn't come from the keyboard but from a computer. The keytar is plugged to the computer with a midi interface or something and the notes are played by RealGuitar/RealStart which is hosted as a plugin inside a VST-host software.

Sorry Jeff if you wanted to answer.Tell me if I'm wrong.

  • Thanks for the comment. And for the good explanation.

The only thing i will add is for "Mac Users" the plug-in works via AU.

  • wow, man, you really rock!!! Thnaks for these advices! Appreciate a lot!

  • You are quite welcome!

  • hey man, what are you using this with? is it available on PC? your awsome at that btw!

  • Thanks for the kudos. Yes it is available for both Pc &Mac.

  • good Job. Juan Manuel

  • Thanks!

  • Thanks Juan!

  • Hello, one question? this is a ronad ax-1 customized in a guitar, jeje, i love you rolnad ax-1 and covers, good bye fron Argentina. Jan Manuel.

  • Jan,

Yes, that is a custom made shell with the AX-1 parts transplanted into it.

  • Haha, that was just too cool!

I wish I had talent like that

  • Thanks!

  • Hey man! You seem to be a really good teacher and I like what you're doing with the Keytar;) I just watched some of your videos and some how you inspire me to play my guitar!

  • Wow. What a REALLY cool comment! Much Appreciated.

  • plugin that uses the distortion .... with realstrat

  • programming used for the distortion ....

  • coool :D

  • lol, that was AWESOME!

  • Hey Jeff,

I've got a quick question for you

I've been using both Real Guitar and Real Strat, and i've been trying to route them via Sonar into Guitar Rig 3 to get a nice distortion like the opening of this video to use with my Roland AX; what software / effects are you using if you don't mind me asking? I've been hitting all types of boundaries and it'd be nice to hear from a pro, thanks again!

  • Hi there.

I don't mind you asking at all.

I'm using custom patches i created in Guitar Rig.

  • Thanks a lot!

  • Great suff

Where can I get one like your without remortgaging the house,,,

    VESTRO

  • Thanks::)

These days they can only be found on the used market.

Any they are a bit pricy for sure!

    Good luck with the search.

  • Please see my response to 'Veslapina"

    Thanks!

  • Oh it's a signature keytar. Where to get one, and is that based on AX-7?

  • It's retrofitted, so it's a Roland in a different case.

I'd like to know who made the case too, though, I've got a keytar but the plastic case is somewhat damaged.

  • The Jeff Abbott Signature Series Keytar

    IS a retro-fitted Ax-1.

By a REALLY GREAT fan of mine.

I now have a second one, and i think its as AMAZING as the first::)

When the third one is completed, i will auction off one of those on ebay and whatever it sells for will be my 'Thank You" gift to him.

I'm really not sure he has the time or desire to make any more after that.

  • Is that a customed AX-7? Where can I make my keytar look like that? :)

  • Hey Jeff! That sounds 10 times better than last time.. :D and what a nice keytar.. hehe lovi'n it! I'll see you around! /Øystein

  • Absolutely awesome, sir. Here's hoping we see more RS/RG tutorial videos!

  • I do plan on shooting RG/RS 201 should be done before March 09. Glad you liked the video

  • You, sir, just made my day. Thank you!

  • Hey Jeff,

Love the new axe(JA Signature series keytar) and the REALGUITAR instructional video - educational and fun at the same time... you are definitely RG's biggest talent!!! Do you have any other RG instr. videos? As usual your technique is flawless! Thanks for sharing your gifts.

  • Thanks for the kind comments and yes, there will be more videos.

  • MusicLab should hire you! Best RealStrat demo I've seen thus far. Well done. :o)

  • Thanks:)

  • Nice video Jeff! And with mr Jones in it.. YIHAA!

  • You had previously mentioned that you would be making instructional videos, but I didn't know that one would be released this early or for free!

    Thanks for the tips!

  • You are VERY welcome.

  • about how much does that thing cost? HAHa

  • Hi. I just want to tell you that you're a very talented man. And your signature keytar is beautiful. And you can sing very well too!

I'm a guitar player so I can't help feeling a little jealous of how a keyboard can make just any sound of a guitar, it makes me want to learn to play keyboards now... but I'm too lazy! lol.

I subscribed and I'been watching your videos and it's great stuff. You rock!
