  • Good Verdi baritone/ low tenor

  • I am a tenor and listen a lot to them. When I want to listen to a great singer of other voice type,he is number one for me. He is more or less a perfect singer.....I saw a live broadcast from Met of Il Trovatore last winter. Cant wait for the next performance....

  • His voice very nice but no have the power to sing Verdi dramatic barython in Comte di luna he have some part and aspirations have some problems,He s voice for Russian opera like Onegin quen spades,is more lyric baryton, but not the big baryton for Verdi

  • No question about stunning voice color and beatiful top notes but this is definitely not Verdi and in some points he's not even doing right the score. He does many better things than this.

  • @federic017 such as...?

  • he does remind me of Alan Rickman, and not for the first time :-)

  • Giorgio zancanaro does this better than anyone else in the history of opera, ever!

  • for me he IS a great baritone.

  • I wrote about DH singing the Toreador' aria, and someone comes sad with me, because I said that DH has a powerful voice, but, he does have a special lirism and a soul of an artist.

He like to sing showing his voice, and he miss the love in his heart absolutely important to be a great baritono, as Capuccilli and others like Ingvar Wixell.

  • mamma mia!

  • His voice has all the beauty of lyric baritone and enough dramatism for singing Verdi perfectly

  • Bravo Dima!

  • Marvelous... Brava!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • stupendo..meraviglioso..senza parole

Ciao .

  • @bodiloto I've said a hundred times, I'll say it once more. DH has not a small voice. Period.

A lei piace DH ? Sono molto contento per Lei .

  • @bodiloto You can like or dislike whom you like, but saying that DH has a small voice is simply Not True. I must set the record right ;-)

  • @frufruJ Oh,come on ! Ciao .

  • @bodiloto Heard him at ROH and Vienna, Verdi roles, was just perfect, louder than some of his colleagues - if loudness were the only criterion, and not also the musical and artistic intelligence, the line, the colour etc etc etc.

Ciao.

  • @bodiloto He's on the lyrical end of the Verdian baritone. Remember, Verdi's earlier operas are more bel canto. Yes, in the past decades they were sung by huge-voiced baritones. DH is not that, but why is the lyricism he brings to the roles *wrong*? Don't pose yourself as the ultimate authority on who is a "true verdian baritone" and who is not, please.

  • @bodiloto Yeah, back in those days, singers could sing better, the grass was greener and birds sang more beautifully. Nowadays nobody can sing. If you prefer silence, why do you spend hours on YouTube listening and commenting? You think about why - makes your ego feel good?

  • Thank you very much, frufru, for uploading this here... the sweetness with which he sings is enchanting. I really hope I will see him as the Count di Luna live someday... As I understood from your comments, it was a wonderful experience?

  • Thanks for your comments. Yes, it was :-)

Fingers crossed for you. Are you in the CR? He'll be singing Rigoletto and Onegin next year in Vienna, is that close enough for you?

I must say I have itching to go to London next June to hear the recital with Ilja, it's going to be a night to remember.

  • Haha I definitely understand your itching! Thank you very much for the info. As I shuttle between ČR and UK, it is a big dilemma for me whether to spend all my savings on the recital you mentioned, or go visit auntie in Vienna and treat myself to Onegin... mum will kill me both ways, I´m positiveXD Do you perchance have any idea where to find the cost of the recital ticket? I tried to google it, but nothing came out of it... Thank you very much:-)

  • A year ago I went to a recital in Munich with Evgeni Kissin. It was the fifth row, over 100 EUR. But then, Kissin is a big name, could have been because of that.

The Rigoletto is going to be a traditional production, the Onegin some modern thing... DH will also be singing Papa Germont in London. The rest is in the USA :-(

Hell, other parents would kill for children who listen to opera! XD

  • Great, thanks SO much! So at least now I roughly know how much I have to save up still... So perhaps see you at the recital, haha!XD Well, I would kill for parents who could afford fueling my passion for it;-) Mum herself is an opera lover (so it is all her fault anyway haha), but I can imagine once I tell her how much I´m going to spend on listening to DH, it won´t be the easiest moment of my life for sure:-))) I a bit wonder - what was the first role or song ever you heard DH sing?

  • With me, it's my mum's fault, too :D

You don't have to spend so much, it's that I always want to be in a front row :-)

  • @frufruJ It's just as hard to get to all those "must see" events on my Old Age Pension as for you guys and I have no Mum!!!!!!! LOL

  • Si ! SI ! SI !

  • i like his haircut here it looks very modern and i rele like it!!!!!!!!!!

  • Superb - thank you so much for posting this!
