That way,Ur best vocal color is the center of your vocal style, song type & key chosen. If ur a potential Coloratura, you won't train in Wagner or Toni Braxton(low-pitched)songs,though she's a good upper chest voice & head/falsetto.If ur a Puccini/Broadway type,U won't be doing Delibes, using mixed & high head voice or use ur whistle register,if U have 1. It's like wen U wake up,after drinkin, smokin=resonant low voice, cracking falsetto vs. sleep,tea/lemon/honey,clear sinuses=full tonal range...
Mariah also tends to sing in her lower range in a very breathy tone, inceasing resonance, but the last several years, her R&B stylization of her upper chest is more of a throaty strain,at times damaging her voice.Too much stylization or working in 1 area of the voice & particular song type, can involve a technique/ habit that can possibly inhibit other vocal qualities. Its why once your timbre/range potential is discovered in training, your voice is then developed within a certain Aria type.
It isn't fair to compare Mariah to the other 2 w/ the songs chosen. She has a thicker chest voice, rarely sings torch song balads & pitches her songs a bit lower,so she can rise into mixed, than head, more invisibly. When she sings in her upper chest, she belts properly, but she almost never sustains,so you can't compare the sustained tones of all 3.The other 2 use that Belt as their climax /top note.Due to different song type/vocal style/range,they use different technique in some areas of their voice
Im not sure of her surgical procedures, but Im sure they werent to enhance, but possibly repair, any nodes she may have developed, common to singers, especially "belters". Her chect voice , in my opinion, which she sang from much more often, was fuller, and that register, as in classical voice, is where most people develop their voice for tone, control, chest range, volume, placement, and quality..
@Czerniakowska The lack of diaphram support for her breathy middle voice, which then goes easily into her lower tones, and transitions easily into her mixed, then head, gives her very different vocal colors, or timbres in each register, noticed more so when she does a power ballad that requires the softness of delivery, the size of a crescendo note, in chest, and some higher grace/sustained notes in a very separate part of her range, tonally. Her Higher head and falsetto voice are quite small.
@Czerniakowska ...if you compare Leonas voice in her upperchest register, even in a full tone, when she goes into her mixed/head range, the volume and connection in tonal quality, doesnt reduce, like often Mariah's does, but Mariahs is more from habit, then inability, whereas Whitney , Lara, Celine dont rely on their super-head voices/falsettos or whistle tones, or belting to the top of their chest registers, then "switching" to head, they break lower, so the continuity is better
Lara uses uses a bit more chest support, giving more vocal control & naturally has a thicker, rounder timbre w/ more under/overtones,shown in her upper chest register.I'm sure Celine knows how to sing in her upper chest register belt, but maybe that nasal belt/yell has become a trademark/habit.They both have great head tones, but neither use many phrases that call for a break in registers, thus not exposing their mixed voice often. I do think Lara a little better technique & richer, rounder timbre.
Its hard to compare.Lara's and Celine's singing style & power ballads, are done in a more "vocalist" style, where notes are sustained,w/ or w/o vibrato, especially in a crescendo up to a high finale,w/o much riffing. The difference is in their timbres, not "copying",which are very similar, untilthey reach the upper chest register.Celine's timbre is thinner, less undertones, and if you look at their mouth shape during belts,Lara stays in an "ah",Celine often uses more of an "eh",creating a nasal yell...
In defense of Ms. Dion's performances, presented here, 3 of her audio tracks have audio distortion (buzzing) from over driving the sound system. A common amature video mistake. Makes her voice sound gravelly, when it's not in other segments. Better luck next time.
@alan30200 No. It proves she respects and looks up to a great singer and a humble person. To me it's pretty clear that Lara was influenced musically by Celine, but tell me one artist that was not influenced by any other. She has lots of personality, a vocal range that kills me and is a FABULOUS actress. And personally I like Lara a lot more for the fact that she admires Celine and demonstrates it to us. It shows she has personality.
@prilealsilva No. It proves she has no personality at all. She has been copying / imitating Céline since 1988: eurovision 1988, cd artworks (Unison 1990 - Carpe Diem 1991, The Colour Of My Love 1993 - Carpe Diem 1994, Falling Into You 1996 - Pure 1997), singing style, belting style, hair, make-up, album concept (D'Elles - Toutes les femmes en moi), lyricists, songs (Pour Que Tu M'Aimes Encore, L'Amour Existe Encore, The Prayer), covers (Le Blues Du Businessmsn, Calling You, Quand On N'A Que
@prilealsilva L'Amour even with the same intro created for Celine's version... there is a long list... and instead of recognizing that Celine was her idol she said that Barbra was her idol each time she was asked about Celine... for years... and then the letter in TLFM album explainig that Celine has always been her biggest influence... Nobody had noticed it!!! Ha ha ha ha ha
@alan30200 you may be right. I don't agree when you say she copies Celine's way of singing. Celine can't use falsetto (this will probably cause me some trouble here lol) and Lara can mix chest, belting and falsetto with perfection (to me she's the most technical singer). She sings what she composes (mostly). Celine performed Queen, so that makes her a copy of Mr. Mercury? She recorded Alone, Power of Love, I drove all nights and many others but that doesn't make her a copy of the others.
@alan30200 And if you do some research, if Lara has recorded like 10 Celine songs, she has recorded at least 20 Edith Piaf. Dion and Fabian may sound alike, they sing ballads (which I trully respect and LOVE), but that doesn't mean one tries to be the other. Every singer dreams to be as successful as Celine and to me that's good. Again, that's what I think. Even if Lara was a copy of Celine, I would love that because I love Celine as much as I love Lara. =)
Lara got the best voice. She sounds the same live or recording. Celine's voice has a nasal quality that's distracting. With Mariah, unfortunately after years of singing super high notes and whistling, she lost a lot of its range. There were instances Mariah sounded hoarse when singing live. Lara's voice remains pure and divine. as ever.
Celine and Lara's voice are generic, Mariah provides exceptional and unequivocally unique range of emotions depicted in her quality of vocal prowess.' Intertwine it with a whistle register, those two will be blown to Calcutta.'
Mariah hands down - the best singer in the world.' She is a living legend, and she's gon bring forth two music royalties into this existence.' Our time is very lucky to have known such talent that an exceptional Mariah Carey can only astound.'
I will love the voice of Céline and Lara forever!!!!! Mariah has a wonderful voice, but I don't like the kind of music that she does... I prefer Mariah in her old days, when she began her career
All of them are great singers :-) but I love the voice quality of Lara Fabian most. So powerful yet so soothing to listen. Very soulful and full of passion. She is the most beautiful among the three as well :-) So amazing !
alors là je trouve la voix de Celine Dion désagréable, et ce n'est pas chanter pour moi! a pars vouloir trainer sa voix je ne trouve pas séduisant!
je préfère Lara Fabian comme interprète
