What happened at bar 56? Was that a memory lapse? It seems he played the beginning of bar 16 instead? I've already checked my three different editions of Chopin's nocturnes, and various studio CD recordings; I think he played some blindingly wrong notes!
This is not a one-off thing. He made the same mistake in his Live in Beijing DVD, but interestingly played correctly in his studio recording (must have been playing with the sheet music). I don't expect him to be note perfect, but this is the sort of error that a pianist of his calibre can easily avoid: by learning the music properly.
@silentkillerUSA Is a normal behavior in classical concerts, because it's extremelly rude to cough while he is playing, so people clear theire throats so they don't cough after he starts playing ;)
One of my favorite Chopin pieces, unfortunately, the snapping going on from the video reproduction is ruining it. I've heard Garrick Ohllsohn play this in a lecture called "why Chopin ...?",also Valentina Lisitsa, Dino Lupatti, Susan Starr, Shura Cherkassky, Pollini etc. I liked Ohllsohn best, but the rest were all excellent as well. I don't like it when the bass is so quiet that it loses clarity. Personally, I think the bass would sound nice sustained a bit, (without killing the voice leading)
Bravo Yundi ! Et merci à Kiesworld86 pour cette vidéo.
Pretty tired of those Europeans got sick and ruined the whole master piece. Sorry about offending the Europeans, but it was really really annoying to the point where I can take it any more!
Yundi Li is my fav piano player !!! Absolutely beautiful interpretation of a beautiful nocturne by Chopin!!! ... 1 question, is the title of the nocturne displayed on the screen in the beginning wrong ??
ok question to all. i've noticed that to all concerts i go to, people cough so ignorantly all the time at any given moment of silence. its so ANOYING!!! WHY DO THEY DO IT!!!! and dont give me some bs response like, "havent you ever had to cough".... anyone else notice the excessive coughing that goes on in concerts? whats with it?....
@karaeloko yea but people dont cough life that on a regular basis. its just so intentional and disrespectful i think because i think its done as a way to express your being there/and bring the attention to you. im not even joking that is actually mentioned in my psych books and it makes total sense. many people when they cough just cough to make themselve known. its disrespectful to the performer i think even in the quiet time..
no doubt you can play most of the nocturne, jus listen to this hundred times and u will know that you are still at a different league... you show no personally in your piece... nothing special but jus a normal person that can play the piano...
@123karol123123 really? Barenboim has too much beethovenstyle in his Chopin. Which is not so delicate all the time.. At exactly this piece I really prefer Lang Langs version from carniege.. He is not often at the front. But in this piece he hit's the tonality really soft, without being boring nor too wild. My image of Chopin music is "canons of roses" and he surely have both in that version.. even more that Yundi, Try and listen to it, I don't think it will disappoint you.
@VSKCREW Thanks for your sugestion, but you realy should litsen this piece in Barenboim's version. Generaly I'm not a big fan of Barenboim, and you're right that he plays better of Beethoven music, but I was totaly surprised by his interpretation of this nocturn. His right hand is so soft in this (of course it was a few years ago, he was in a better condition probably). But I really wait for Rafał Blechacz's interpretation of this. Take care VSKCREW. Thanks
@callenishss Wow, what an ego you have. Take a moment to look at where Yundi Li is sitting, and then look at your videos to see where you are sitting, for all of them. Take a moment to think why. I hope a Steinway never has to suffer your fingers touching it. What good is knowing 50 chopin pieces, if you are unable to properly perform even one of them?

I agree, Lang Lang did get this piece right at Carnegie. his tempo was brilliant, compared to, say, Pollini, who rushes through everything.

is it my speakers or is there some wierd static throughout the song?

The move of his hands are so graceful, the way he touch the keys with daintiness and intensity... just with love for the music...

@tomczyce well, they wait till there is silence so they don't disturb the actual playing, don't distract the performer or bother the other listeners.
