BSL is stupid. I know a Chihuahua that has bitten a lot more people than my own dogs, and I own a German Sheperd and a American Indian Dog.

It is my opinion that the dogs are never to blame for attacks, it is the circumstance they are in their training and the people that own them either purposely or inadvertently training them to be aggressive, it is people who need educating not individual breeds that need to be punished.

Our dogs are very well behaved and always kept on a leash because I know if they were ever attacked by another off lead dog the Powerful one would get the blame. I believe all dogs should be kept on a lead at all times and fenced areas should be supplied for anyone wanting to let their dogs run together if that is their wish.

Great video, peoples ignorance with dogs never ceases to amaze me! They are humanised far too much they are dogs first and should always be treated with respect and controlled whatever the breed – large or small.

my great grandparents had a doberman that looked just like the one in that picture, her name was dutchess she was a very well behaved gentle dog, luved kids and in her whole life never bit or snapped anybody she was over 16 when she died.

The "Pit bull" Classifaction of dogs only kills no more then 6 people A YEAR.

As too a dalmation killing well over 20, A year.

have you thought of taking your akita somewhere where he can satisfy his prey drive in a safe way? my dog has very strong urges to chase and hunt. An hour off leash in the park chasing squirrels and chipmonks (which he never catches), and he comes home tired and satisfied. My dogs give me not a single problem- no aggression, no separation anxiety, no chewing, no accidents, and I give them 2 hours off leash every single day. You have no time, you say? How much television do you watch every day?

But what I really want to ask those people is: why are you bringing this dog to a place where you know there are going to be unleashed dogs? a leashed dog can be walked anywhere, but these morons walk right into a park or other "known" off leash area, and then start bitching because other dogs approach them. It's like letting your dog run in traffic and then acting like it's the car's fault he got hit. If people used courtesy and common sense, there would be no problem.

I take my dogs to off-leash areas during off-leash times. occasionally someone comes in with a leashed dog, and the off leash dogs do sometimes approach. I always leash my dogs when a leashed dog approaches, because the unequal power and mobility balance can cause problems even if all the dogs are ordinarily fine (the leashed dog is bound to feel defensive; the unleashed dogs are likely to take advantage).

so are you saying that my sweet dogs (beagle, pit, pit mix) should never be allowed to run off leash? And how is a high energy dog who is never off leash different than a dog always chained in a yard? How is saying that ALL dogs should be leashed different than saying ALL pit bulls (rotties, GSDs etc.) should be banned? Aggressive dogs should be leashed; unresponsive dogs should be leashed. Keep your leash off my dogs, Dogs NEED to run as much as they need food, shelter and affection.

I'm saying that if your going to let your dog run off leash, you need to be responsible about it which sadly enough most people are not.

Now if I'm walking my dog who is dog aggressive down the road, and your "sweet high energy dog" comes running up to say hi because it's friendly, and my dog attacks and/or kills it, who is to blame? The owner of the dog walking it onleash or the owner of the dog letting it run free? Leash laws are there for a reason, even you have a "sweet" dog

I think if your dog had had regular off leash socialization time with other dogs, he or she wouldn't be dog aggressive. I also think that a dog whose aggression is so intense that he or she could seriously injure another person's pet probably shouldn't be walked in public places. A dog like that needs to be kept at home, and needs a behaviorist. Even a leashed dog can slip a collar or yank the leash out of your hand. Leash laws punish good dogs because some people are clueless and/or lazy.

My dog, an Akita, will never be off-leash because his prey drive is so high that no matter how well we train him obedience he may one day not listen. Rude off leash dogs often come up and bark in his face. What would be nice is that if the off leash dogs were watched all the time & before introducing themselves were called back into a heel for an appropriate, safe meeting. We have to muzzle our dog now, based on experience with off leash "sweet" dogs who bit him and made him nervous and scared.

I couldn't agree more! That's all I can say. Awesome video! I found myself tearing up throughout most of the video and shaking my head in disbelief and admiration (to those brave dogs who helped those brave people to save lives) throughout the rest.

People really don't get it. It's sad and most unfortunate. But enough voices raised can and will be heard!

Exactly, my GSD is no more dangerous than her brother golden retrievrof 3 months.

Try and take and enforce a law on my GSD, then serve and enforce it on ME in PERSON.
