Since the Blazers and Jeeps that they had used leaf springs with moderate ground clearance the army needed something with more advanced suspension. The Hummers came with four wheel independent suspension and portal axles at all four corners. The suspension allowed them to travel at MUCH...........

Old videos show tests where the Jeeps and Blazers had to crawl over this rough ground while the Hummer could tackle the same terrain at high speeds. While Jeeps are great trail rigs, they are not what the military needed in a modern vehicle. The Hummer was simply better for the army.

I'm a cherokee owner and I can say no, we don't place much emphasis on gas mileage. At an amazing 14mpg AT BEST I put probably 3 times more gas in my jeep every week then pretty much any other vehicle. lol. And thats stock, give me 3 months to get my lift kit on and the 31s and Ill bring that down to a comfortable Hummer H1 level lol.

I love my TJ, this is sweet, it follows the KISS rule, I think jeep over the last few year have gotton away from the KISS rule, and started saling to the yuppies.
