@mbarizia Yeah it's been a great car for me for 4 years now. since this video, video I took out the air filter housing and put a cone on it, put on a new exhoust with just a fart can muffler on it, new wheel bearings, swaybar links, fixed a few bits of rust and painted the bumbers and a strip down the bottom sides with truck bed liner. Runs great and looks pretty sharp ;)
@naterade21 haha... yeah it was a pain getting to the bolts. it's held out so far. 5,000 miles later and it's still tight. no more embarrising episodes tring to leave the parking lot ;)
Thanks for posting this!.......... Solved my problem with my '97 as well.............the sound sounded like it was coming from the wider belt.............it was the alternator belt
same exact issue with my car my dad n me tryed missing with it thought it was the fan ect but wow thanks for the video man u saved us alot of time its done the screeching sound for like past a minute so thats awesome i found ur video on here
@skittlezfersur Glad this helped you. Always good when you can catch it in time before it snaps and leaves you sitting. or in my case it would kill my battery and cooling system.
Yea my Probe did it too, same belt on the water pump and the alternator, belt snapped which stopped the water pump from pumping water which caused the engine to over heat which caused the valves to be bent, except my belt did it while I was driving not when I was just starting it, selling the car today for 200 dollars.
@crackerisntme Oh man... What a bummer. =/ From what I understand, a lot of Probes are doing this. Must be something to do with the way the tensioner bolt is set up. It just doesn't seem very sturdy, and apparently will loosen itself up. I'm leaving the video up hoping it may help somebody out.
my truck makes the same noise, but it only does it when i turn it on and when i have the a/c on and im turning the steering wheal but when i turn off the a/c the noise stops. is this the same case with you? I'm currently trying to find a solution to this very annoying problem.
well if you got the problem fixed please tell me how you managed to fix it. i would really appreciate it.
@936Mrfrank sounds pretty close to what mines doing but not when im turning. it does it with any extra electrical load on the alternator. its the belt that runs the alternator and water pump... if i put some dressing on it, it stops for a while untill it wears off. Im going to try tightening it. only problem is ill have to take all the hoses off the power stearing pump and the plash guard off the bottum to get to the mounting bolts >.>
@936Mrfrank Yup that took car of it... finally got around to tightening it today. took almost an hour and a half turning nuts 1 click at a time, but it worked like a charm. Sometimes you gotta wonder what thought goes into the layout in these engines >.>
