For one, he showed humanity in sympathizing with Michael when he realized that Michael's dad had sexually abused him as a child. He also seemed to show genuine emotion when he told his family that he'd be gone for awhile. He was also fiercely loyal to the Stanfield crew and shown to be cautious and not impulsive. He was definitely anti social, but an outright psychopath? Nah.

I guess I when I see that Kenard is the only one on the block not afraid of Ormar (and who ultimately kills him), and how Michael gives him that beat down, I can see Simon using Kenard's character as an offering into Marlo's upbringing. The whole thing with trying to light the cat on fire leaves me to think that in many ways Kenard is already heartless to the point of no return and a swan of the street like Marlo.

I sort of wish some of Marlo's boys like Nay Nay and Jamal would have come back for season 4, because they were both great characters, but the season ended up going in a new direction without them.
Marlo's corners boys all appeared to be pretty well-schooled, even though they occasionally got jacked up the police. By well-schooled I mean they weren't rookies. They knew how to stick and move out on them corners.

I guess I when I see that Kenard is the only one on the block not afraid of Ormar (and who ultimately kills him), and how Michael gives him that beat down, I can see Simon using Kenard's character as an offering into Marlo's upbringing. The whole thing with trying to light the cat on fire leaves me to think that in many ways Kenard is already heartless to the point of no return and a swan of the street like Marlo.

His name is forgotten on the street while Omar's becomes the stuff of legend. That, among other things, pissed him off the most. Marlo was a textbook psychopath- smart, cold, calculating, no remorse, no empathy, solely interested in power and no real connection to anybody, not even Chris Partlow.
Chris was also a psychopath, but was probably made that way partly due to serious abuse. Marlo was probably born without a conscience.

Marlo does seem to fit the diagnosis for a primary psychopath more than Chris, in fact I don't think Chris is a psychopath. Chris is certainly sociopathic, as are all repeat lawbreakers, but he doesn't have the affective flatness, lack of conscience etc that Marlo has.
