He was unsure of the shot placement. A deer will die within seconds from a properly placed shot that penetrates the heart or both lungs. A poorly placed shot could allow the deer to live for minutes or hours. If you don't see or hear the deer crash, it is wise to wait before tracking.

@MattS6993 When shot, whitetails will usually run just out of sight, bed down, and die peacefully in their sleep if left undisturbed. Tracking a poorly-hit deer prematurely would cause the animal undue suffering and decrease your odds of recovering it. The hunter did the right thing.

Very nice, i shoot a recurve in the yard, have shot a long bow but not very good with it. I can shoot the recurve pretty good but I just havent taken it hunting yet. I hunt in Alabama and my property is thick thick thick, its very tough to track and recover one if it runs even 100 yards. I have briars embedded all over from the last deer i killed.

@Elperroviejo1 whats your problem? how do you think you get meat in your fridge? its from hard workin men like this fella here. the shot was in a lung which insures a dead deer. it wasnt a bad shot. and thats a stick bow if the man says it a stick bow. why would he lie about that? and really unless you shoot the deer in the head ( which takes the risk of permanately damaging a deers eating habits, vision, or hearing ) the deer will rarely just drop and die on the spot. stop trolling.

Homeostasis4me-- Why do you keep posting on these guys videos that they are using RECURVES ??? You may want to educate yourself on traditional bows.. A RECURVE bow has limbs that RE CURVE away from the shooter after the string contacts the limbs generally about 3 to 4 inches down from the tip of the limb..Hence the name RECURVE.. A longbow string ONLY contacts the limb at the string grooves on the tips of the limbs..Google -LONGBOW and RECURVE and click on images to see the difference.

pumphousee00 it was a lung shot. it was severally quartering away and went right up in there. when i was gutting him he had a perfect X in the middle right where both lungs meet. and the hole you saw in the video was from a opossum or coyotes because i left him over night. and i never said he was a 140 class buck. it grossed 133 and probably will only officially score lower 120's. but for a homemade long bow its a big trophy to me
