  • can you please edit the video with caption for the distance please? thanks Ben and you and others are inspiring me to get more serious with IDPA. Thank you and God Speed...

  • @koolmike79 The IDPA rulebook has the classifier description

  • @waktasz

Thanks... I read the whole IDPA rulebook and last month I went on my first local IDPA match and I placed 1st UN ESP, 2nd UN ESP & SSP and I placed 14th overall. Awessssooommme!!! IDPA is so much fun!!! I'm getting ready for next week's match, I can hardly wait!!!

  • Question about the reloads. I was under the impression that it was a Tac reload not a reload with retention.

  • On the last drill, doing a proper tac reload and stowing mag while booking to next position seems to be faster them RWR, THEN moving to the 15

  • lol, and people were laughing at me for smoky gun powers!!

    Great video!

  • Great run there! I just shot my first Classifier with my Ruger SR40 (they class me in ESP...sidebar, is that about right?)...missed moving up from Novice by 3.88 with a score of 193.88 overall....my long distance stage was horrible and with my back issues I don't expect to be anywhere near your speed but it's a good time and I hope to improve!

  • Very fast!!!

  • Very nice

  • Great shooting! My first IDPA match is this Saturday, and I am excited. I am shooting a Glock 30 and I have 4 magazines and only 2 magazine single pouches. Can I use my pockets until I get one that holds 3 or 4? Thanks for the vid.

  • @Model29Lover For most IDPA matches you only need 3 magazines. When it is your turn to shoot the RO will tell you to load and make ready, so now you have one magazine in your pistol and 2 on your belt. So carrying your 3rd mag in your pocket is perfectly fine. For the most part IDPA stages all start with 31 rounds of ammo (one in your chamber and 10 in the magazine and then your two 10-round back up magazines on your side).

    I hope this helps.

  • @arkangel8419 What club do you shoot at in PA?

  • You're cute:D

  • wow i wish they showed the whole thing and told wha tthe course of fire was....but still really nice classifier run

  • hey guys my S&W6906 is in the shop n i got an IDPA match tomorrow morn so I am shooting my"good old faithfull" kel-tec Pll does anyone know what division this gun is under? is it ssp or what? if u know the answer get back to me b4 9 am tomorrow thanks

  • They need more divisions.

Sub 60 should be called Jedi. :)

Any idea what the fastest recorded Classifier is?

  • Question on the Tac reload... I noticed you just pocketed the old mag then inserted the new one. Is this okay? I thought you needed to get a new mag, swap em, then pocket the old one. Just curious, cuz your way is much faster.

  • @tdo79

My technique is called a "Reload with retention". As far as IDPA rules are concerned, you are good to go. You just need to retain the old mag below your beltline before you fire the next shot.

  • @Elbeno007

It seems faster that "tactical", so I think I am going to switch to this when doing the classifier.

Another question while I have ya...

Is there a rule to how far you can come out on the barricade and barrel? Do they care how far down you are at the barrel, or is touching your knee enough. The rules don't really specify.

  • @tdo79

For "Low Cover" positions, you need to have a knee down and keep your lower body behind cover.

  • @tdo79

What the gentlemen in the video performed was a tactical reload. What you describe is called reload with retention. They are both very similar and the difference is negligible for the everyday shooter although there are advantages to each reload in a gun fight.

  • Smokin!

  • Amazing Achievement- congratulations!

  • SMOKIN!!! Very strong!

  • What are "points down" and how are they assessed?

  • The center-chest and head are zero points down.

Missing the heart-zone results in either 1 or 3 penalty points PER SHOT, depending on badly you miss.

Shooting the entire classifier with 6 down is absurdly accurate.

  • @crashmcwhly Each "point down" adds a half a second to your shooting time. Just got to the IDPA website and look at an official target and you will see the target zones.

  • Absolutely beautiful shooting. They really need to make more classes above master, or at least alter the times. You should have something to show for shooting it under half the time required.

Sorry about all the douche-bag haters who posted.

  • Don't you have to wear a cover garment for IDPA?

  • not for the classifier

  • Ben,

Great job! I've only shot 4 matches, two of which happen to be classifiers. made it to SSP SS on the second one last month. Sooooo...I appreciate your performance and truly understand what it takes to get there! Well done.

  • Gun is a Beretta 92G Elite 2

Bullets are 147 Grain Moly Coated from Black Bullets International

  • what class and what handgun? What type of bullets? thanks

  • Great job Ben. Sub 60 second is a stellar performance. I think way back when IDPA was just getting started, Leatham shot the classifier in the low 60s. Incredible. People don't and most can't appreciate this feat.

  • Excellent video. Thanks for posting!

  • i did one of these. Guess what! I am a novice ESP... Ouch I suck

  • Great classifier,,,if you don't mind answering how long had you been shooting IDPA when you shot that classifier and what division were you in...How'd u end up - - Sharpshooter or Expert :),,,hope you don't mind the newbie questions.

  • At 59.4 seconds he easily makes Master. Anything quicker than 89.41 seconds makes Master in ESP. Anything quicker than 98.82 seconds makes Master in SSP. So, ... he smoked it!

  • Simply Incredible! If you have done a classifier, you understand. Great Shooting.

  • Nicely done. My only recommendation would be to ad an annotation explaining the COF for each stage.

  • the scenarios are real world too dude. yeah they dont shoot back but the exercises are simulations of how you would shoot assailants in reality. When SWAT train, their targets dont shoot back neither. You dont shoot IDPA dude. Cause you wont be this dumb if you did

  • I just took 1st place in SSP in the 2009 Arkansas State Champonship, shooting as an SSP Master. I think I know a thing or two about IDPA.

And IDPA is absolutely a game. We shoot for lowest overall time, using guns/holsters/concealment you wouldn't wear on the street.

And Ben is one of the best there is at the game. Would you guys find somewhere else to argue? Ben's video comments are hardly the place for a discussion about the spirit of the sport.

  • @MemphisMechanic well really IDPA was created as an off shoot of ISPCA people got sick of the weapons races that exist in ISPCA & others like it so they created a comp that anyone can afford, you will always get gamers at every shoot, I finish in the top 8 at every match in PA that I shoot, But i rarly game, I shoot IDPA as more of practice i use the same gun & rig i use to carry daily so do a lot of shooters

  • hglock31, you're a moron. idpa is based on real world scenario. go read the definition on their website dumbfuck

  • Your understanding is not correct.

From the rulebook, page 13 :

CoF 13. Use concealment for scenario stages when

    appropriate.

obviously, the classifier is not a "scenario" stage, hence it does not require use of concealment.

  • Black Plague: you have the answer from the owner of the video. End of that story.

As for LAV, I know him very well.

  • Then you should know his opinion as well.

  • And if I remember right, I asked you, not him.

  • Black Plague,

I am not at all involved in or interested in any form of tactical training of any kind. I am well aware of the issues you bring up but it in no way has anything to do with what I am working on. I understand what IDPA is and what it is all about. I do not take an interest in the tactical end of things. I appreciate the help you are offering, but please understand that I dont want it. No offense.

    Ben Stoeger

  • He made it look easy, 59 seconds. That made Master. I don't know Mr. Stoeger, but from that score and his gun handling ability, he's probably a GM in USPSA. He has sent a truck load of bullets down range.

People should try this COF before starting to offer any gun handling advice.

  • Don't be in such a hurry to holster your weapon. Follow-thru scan and assess. Do an admin reload if necessary and re-holster

  • @BlackPlague1966 Why don't you demonstrate for us in a video, since you are so "high-speed/low-drag".
