Home! This video made me very homesick. But, next year I will be starting back to the Philippines. As yeomanjake says Olongapo has grown up, it looks as if things are prospering. Olongapo deserves to prosper - AIM HIGH OLONGAPO
The city has grown to be a *REAL* city now. When I was there in 1963, it was a line of bars and clubs, and the walk across the Sh*t River was a memory maker. Glad to see that Po City has become a modern day miracle... a nice place to go to, and yes, makes me want to return back to the P.I. again. - Jake, visitor aboard the USS Hancock CVA-19, '63 at Subic Bay, Cubi Point - makes me wonder what they have done to Grande Island??
grew up there,,learn everything i know... left someone that very close to me and specially to my heart...i hope when i come back she still be there for me..no names you know who you are.....forever ....
na homesick ako dun ah wakakakakka.. lalo na yung nadaanan yung eskinita papuntang bahay namin sa likod ng gasoline station ng caltex harap ng o.c.n.h.s tnx nag enjoy din ako :P :P :P
Thanks for the clip bro. Gapoboy here too. This was my playground back in the days. I was there last year but man feels like it was forever ago. Thanks for the post again. You brought smile to this lone wolf's face tonight hehehe.
Been there many times. That town used to be so rowdy. The last time I was there, unfortunately, was to help clean up the mess after Mt. Pinatubo erupted. What a disaster that was. I see that the town has done a very nice job of recovering from that tragedy.
omg, what memories. I was a US Marine stationed there from 1989 to 1991. That "mountain in subic with radar tower" that was alluded to @ 0:25 is actually Mt. Santa Rita and I stood guard there plenty of times; one of the posts is actually on the very top of that radar tower, with the radar disk spinning 2 extra stories above you... awesome vid
@reruddock ...thanks for appreciating my vid.. I really emphasized on it that high landmark cuz I know that many US servicemen who were stationed here may recall their good old days at Subic.....much better if you could visit here as a tourist. So many things have changed since 1991. Subic naval base, now a freeport and named SBMA is curently a commercial, industrial and major tourist destination in the Philippines.
I was here in '83...miss it still and miss the girl I fell in love with...I really want to immigrate to the Filipines...What is the job market like there?
I used to walk that route your video took and I was amazed how much things changed and stayed the same. I went to Nellie E. Brown Elementary School from 5th and 6th grade. That was '74-'77. Live in Happy Valley Apt., where that new JollieBee across the palengke. I love that city, went back in 2004 and 2006. Last year tried but didnt make it to the city coz of Typoon Ondoy. Went to Baloy Beach but the water was too rough, just made the best of the trip. Hope I can make it this year....THANKS!!!
@joeyvegas01 ...Nellie E. Brown Elementary School is a very beautiful school now. Nice Townhouses are now being built near Happy Valley.... hope you could come back to Olongapo.
@joeyvegas01 IN 77-79 we lived across the street from Nellie Brown school. Sponsored a youth basketball team, that won the city champinionship in 78. Always wonder what became of those young men.
' Tol, I like your video run, so much change about and around Gapo since my teenage years.
My regret was too short, our house was about to be on the scene when it cut out...my family lived just a few feet away when the video stop. I miss Gapo so much, I wish to bring my family soon.
di s is jeff from hawaii miss ko n gapo sobra hehehehe... but im gonna be there this coming march so see you soon mga fwends much luv my home town gapo
been hre in the US since 1988 when i was 11yrs old miss all my old friends from columban college from grade 1 to 6 only went home once in 91 this video gives me memories.. yellow jeep santa rita route lol damn been missing alot :( sampaguita club still there?
Olongapo City has a potential to be a great metropolis, especially now that a new world-class expressway was completed traversing Subic Bay to Tarlac via the former Clark Air Base. Our city is one of the few highly-urbanized cities in Philippines.
Great changes happened for the past 25 yrs. US Naval Base at Subic had been turned into a giant freeport offering as a great tourist destination and a big commercial and industrial hub in southeast Asia. You can be assured that entertainment here is still to the max. and your favorite cocktails are still available, The rock clubs that you mentioned are not existent already. Better rock clubs cater to the needs of tourists. Meanwhile, the Plain White is not playing around here anymore.
Great video to watch and bring back many memories. Decent quality video with music that would take me back to the 80's. I have not been there since '84 but would love to find someone who would love to make the trip back over with me. I'm sure there are some changes in the last 25 years. I guess I would be asking too much if 100% Rock and Apple Rock were still there? What rock clubs are there now if any? Do they still make my favorite cocktail over there? Remember the band Plain White? 83-84
I have not been there in 17 years. It has taken me so long to find something like this. I wanted to see the whole Magsaysay scene for such of a long time. I really appreciate this.I will there soon to see it in person. I miss it over there so much.
1977, I miss u P.I Mahal Kita, was stationed there this is where I learned so much about life, Richard Henry from Baguio& I were stationed at the hospital there; hepast away when we were there I seen his ghost 3 times twice in Baguio and 10trs later here in Az USA. Someday I will see agian, thank you for the memories Ma r ming sa la mat po
