I owned a Pixma, but since I was forced to always stocking all of the cartridges (i.e black AND all color tones) in order to access other functions such as scan... no thanks. You don't even have the choice of simply not using color and just go with monochrome printing, you must load at all times all of the ink.
Folks- a Multi Function Printer that turns into a ZERO function printer if you run out of one cartridge.
I won't make that mistake again in supporting such an abusive system.
can you use this to print regular documents if you wanted to? obviously i'm going to use them for large photo prints, but do i have to buy a separate printer for docs? can i store different types of inks for different uses?
Updates? There have been a few very viable questions on the comments thread that need to be answered. Please do look over some of these an answer. It would help immensly if you could do so.
@lyonsamichelle Where did you buy the printer from? Every place here in the US says it's not in stock yet. I pre-ordered it back in October from Adorama and they still don't have an ETA for it. I'm giving Canon till the end of the week and then I'm buying an Epson.
I am sure this is an awesome printer and very useful for professionals. But yeah, the video is an advertisment for the printer, not an objective evaluation. Still, fun to watch and I'm glad I got to see it.
So you're saying this printer make perfect screen to print matches? Even if you're using a color corrected iMac like the one in this video? Because I viewed other vids that made the assumption that if you're not using a top of the line monitor such as the "NEC" brand then you will never get a perfect match.
hey mark, is this printer compatible with a continuous ink system or some kind of bulk ink feed system? do you have a idea of how many prints you get per cartridge
This is not your average printer. I've seen many prints from this printer. They are freakin' AMAZING. The video is incapable of rendering what this actually looks like in person. Go in to a store and check out some samples. As with most things at this level, you really need to know what you're doing to get the most out of it. It is a pro-level tool, in my opinion. You need to have good color process, etc. It can also be much more expensive than using a lab. The results can be worth it.
I am glad that you reviewed this printer. I have been looking for a review for the past week to see weither or not I wanted to buy this printer. After seeing the size & quality of the prints, I am getting this baby. Now I just have to find a place that carrys it. It must not be released yet. Even the Canon store doesn't carry it. Now that makes me wonder how you got your hands on one. I bet your undercover employee for Canon. Hummmmmm
@Mosgaard Well it is not just for a printer. If you are a photography and tired of sending your work out, this is a great tool. A year ago I would agree with you, but after dealing with employees that have no photography or graphics experience working in a photo lab... I believe this is a good deal.

Hello Mark, how many pictures like the ones you have behind you can print before you need to reload ink in average?

Pause it when he compares the colorchecker. Look at the bottom half. Quite a few colors did not match

I just bought this printer and I can't believe the amount of ink it used for the print head alignment. I have to replace already.
