Love love love love love love the song, but I feel like the video only sort of captures it. I feel like the song is about looking past what the world throws at us as 'nourishing' and striving for something more. As in, quitting watching football and the stock market and instead watching a poem spill out of a pen. The video, while I can see where they were going with it, doesn't seem to capture that for me.

Good music is good music bottom line. There should be more bands like this on radio and music channels. People tend to always go for the generic pre fabricated studio gabage and it makes it harder for the bands with real talent to shine through. This is not emo. Don't be sold on that. The guy is melancholy, sure. But he doesn't sing with a lot of whiny emotion. He just sings tunes that have very somber messages. But its the way he is singing, not the lyrics which dictate the genre. Metallica sings some sad songs also, they are on the complete opposite end of the spectrum than "emo".

I think that everything bland has to do with knowledge, and the truth. in the video, when he puts the bag over his head, he's slipping in and out of reality. Finally, he makes a balance between the two by poking holes, and then he is at peace. It doesn't last though, and his hapiness is destroyed.

The song itself, though, I think is about reality and what you want something to be. It's really beautiful.

I would say Death Cab is kinda "emo", but not in the way that people would say My Chemical Romance or Hawthorne Heights are emo. Death Cab songs useley do contain things that can be quite deep.

I think the reason why some people take "emo" as an insult is due to the stereotype of an "emo kid". I didn't view this song that romantically. I felt it was that they can see all the boredom, the horror, and blankness and lack of significance in the world, both of them. The paper bag for me refered to ignorance, that you don't want to see the world as it really is, and thats why the world changed as he took it off and on. But to have an understanding of what the real world is, and be ignorant at the same time (holes in bag) the couple can finally live with the burden of knowing, and love.
