I'm only just starting judo; I understand the principles of falling safely and all that, but I've got to say, watching some of these videos, I still don't understand how some of these guys aren't breaking their necks on these falls.
Sup everyone... I just wanted to say I love judo, I've been bouncing arround from art to art not feeling whole until I started judo.... its been working out great for me specially because I'm a bjj blue belt so it really supliments it nicely!
@Fave1479 both are very good. especially shotokan, kyokushin and ryu karate. but the fact that there is ground fighting in judo, chokes, holds and locks i'd choose judo. a black belt in judo could easily throw a karateka on the ground and do what ever he want with him because the karatekas got no ground work
@Fave1479 Both! Judo and Karate have had a long relationsihp going all the way back to the early collaborations between Shotokan founder Gichin Funakoshi and Judo founder Jigoro Kano. Kano was so impressed by Karate that he invited Okinawan masters to give demos at the Kodokan in Japan. Karate adopted the belt rank system from Judo, and both styles have been practised together for decades. Many schools teach both styles, so that would be the best thing. Striking and grappling together.
I was in judo for a bit I loved our favourite sentence for remembering the rules outside the dojo: they tell you to be nice at school, they tell you to be nice on the street..... here we tell ya to THROW 'EM DOWN AND SQUISH 'EM!!!!! it was fun painful fun epsecially when you can choke them out in ground fighting >:)

In street if you can throw away to your enemy he falls and slam the hard concrete floor he's lost!!
2:36 It's an uchi mata sukashi, right? It's such a nice technique, even more useful nowadays when uchi mata is so largely used. And it contains the very spirit of judo: you throw your opponent to the ground dodging his attack and using his own movement :)
@19Judoka95 I know, I hate that position. It does set you up for Sumi Gaeshi though, because you can just use their momentum to carry them forward. Man, I love this sport.
@DarEbrio Start now, and learn how to fall. Judo is a blast to learn, but if you have an issue with hitting the mat you will never be able to really enjoy it. I started in Tae Kwan Do an dmoved to Judo myself. I love being able to stay on my feet and fight or at a moments notice drop to the ground and take the other guy to the ground with a body lock.
@iNTEFLUMMiG Belt doesn't matter just saying. NEither does time. I've been doing judo for 6 months and won my very first tournament in the advanced division (in Texas). Just have a good teacher and will power and Judo can come very easily. Especially when you are good at relaxing and not trying to outmuscle others.
But big tournament coming up hope I win last time I lost was 2 years ago and I cryed but you learn form defeats and the guy I lost to is the person I lost to my good friend and good luck but u never know I might win this time:) but if I lose I gotta accept it and move on :(
I'm a black belt only 13 and did it for 7 years I think I earned it the best sport I think that I can win any tournament except Olympics I would never win
as a little kid i used to watch my dad practice judo from the sidelines once i started to join in i only got to yellow blet before my dad had to stop because of work and couldn't take me any more but after seeing this video im gonna start judo again and be the best i can
BEST of luck man...i've been doing judo for 2 years man, i love it soo much...but lately i myself got my first part time job, and also studying for my G.E.D, and have missed practice lately...i wanna be the best i can be too. (check out my channel for videos of myself doing judo, watch round two of my tournament fight if you wanna see me win, watch round 1 if you wanna see me lose lol)
had a whole year of not losing a single contest then shattered my knee and ruptured my cruciate ligaments awaiting sixth operation and I'm only 16 thats life that judo
I love judo. Started training to compliment my BJJ/wrestling. I trained Tuesday and Thursday of last week, my body still hurts. I'll be back this coming week.
i got my black belt at 16, i'm now 18 and have done 10 years of judo. have had to stop judo because my university does not offer it, but i can tell you that i have learned so much from judo. from control of yourself, to respect of others, to learning how to fight/defend yourself, it has all been an amazing experience, and i can' t wait to finish uni to be able to come back to judo.
How does one go about making a video like this? Where did you get all the footage? Was it legal to take the footage? What program did you use to put it together?
I LOVE JUDO!!!!! im twelve and im an orange belt 2 Mon im a British champion under my weight and a Kent international champ i want to be the first person from Britain to win the Olympics JUDO ROCKS !!!!!!!
Two of my classmates way playing around, until one of them sat on the other one, so then I pushed him away with my foot.
He charged at me, (he is MUCH taller than me) so I started to defend myself. It all went so fast, but after a little while, I came in a position where I felt like I could throw him miles away. In the end, I could`t do it, because I realized that he would be in so much pain afterwards. But the feeling that I could throw him on the ground, was really ecstatic.
Would u recommend this for someone who has never done martial arts?? Im looking into a new form of training, lifting weight has gotten kinda boring now lol

@Shrumins No, Judo is a strictly grapple and ground work sport no striking of any sort but it is probably the most fun ive had doing in a sport and really works you and teaches you lots so i would recommend doing it if your ok without striking :)

i have only fucking 14 years old , but i've trained judo during 3 years , and i"m still in orange belt.....sucks . But what fucked me up and my sensei , was one in a tournment in my town , i've got desclassified because i was in blue belt , and i've executed "juji gate" (orange belt )...uuhhg ..those motherfuckers :@
One of teachers is 70 years old... u can say what u want, but he know every move your gonna do when ur training against him. he knows what to do to block every little thing. I really have respect for that man
@Svittidiu a kata guruma if done by an amateur can be quite dangerous, though professionals hardly ever do it wrong... also the sumi gaeshi can be a little dangerous tho:
shit happens (like broken arms or legs) more often when someone tries to combo in a lock along with a throw, it is really good and effective but also very dangerous
I'm only just starting judo; I understand the principles of falling safely and all that, but I've got to say, watching some of these videos, I still don't understand how some of these guys aren't breaking their necks on these falls.

What are the most dangerous throws in Judo? In other words: Which throws can break your neck?
Svittidiu 5 months ago
@Svittidiu Any throw performed improperly can break your neck. Nobody needs to know how to break other people's necks.
StrangerKXH 5 months ago
@Svittidiu a kata guruma if done by an amateur can be quite dangerous, though professionals hardly ever do it wrong... also the sumi gaeshi can be a little dangerous tho:
shit happens (like broken arms or legs) more often when someone tries to combo in a lock along with a throw, it is really good and effective but also very dangerous

This looks very dangerous, many thing can go wrong all the time for the neck, spine, and head, not counting the possible breaking of joints.
