Any civilization without religion will eventually fall. You have to teach both schools of thought regardless of which one is right or wrong, then people will divide in 2 groups, so you can easily conquer ... ;)
Which Christian principles are they John McCain?? Stoning homosexuals to death? Being executed if you eat shellfish or gather sticks on the sabbath? How about killing your own child as a sacrifice to your blood-thirsty imaginary God?
@Isuckatpaintball2 hahahaha... seriously, how many different "science" classes would we have to take.. religion is FAITH... that's the key word, what part of that can't these people understand.. do they have any idea how important it is in science to show physical evidence to support your hypotheses?!
@Isuckatpaintball2 yea but the point is that science always has to be testable.. any other ideas aren't considered science. Whether religion is right or wrong, peaceful or not, is not the issue... the fact is: there's just no way to teach a religious-based science class and be able to call it science because science attempts to remain as physical as possible, introducing religion into a classroom would make that impossible. We can't test what is impossible to perceive... no testing = no science!
Come on McCain- here's what you say "if we tell students that the way that the world was created is this way" then that's all they get to hear. It can not be without a reasonable doubt that it was proven by the Big Bang- its a theory. How can you teach this theory as anything more than that? It's being taught as a fact and the only fact! ? Because of its incertainty why not present the opposing beliefs?
Religious controversies are always productive of more acrimony and irreconcilable hatreds than those which spring from any other cause. [George Washington, letter to Sir Edward Newenham, June 22, 1792]
But McCains a good man with a good heart and that is what matters. Who cares if he thinks that the founding fathers were all Christians. What he said about the teachings fo Christ is true, and if you don't agree with it, for the safety of our country, we should beat you to a bloody pulp.

What a fucking IDIOT! The founding fathers weren't Christians at all! And this man ALMOST became president when he didn't even know what this country was actually founded on!
If you are of a particular faith, it would be contradicting to say that you believe another religion is better. Separation of church and state was meant to keep government from oppressing any religious beliefs. Now, more recently, in an attempt to dispute the constitution, I have seen people trying to argue that all the founding fathers were atheists. The founding fathers had no intention of the nation being a church, but had no intention to release all beliefs from government.
Wow. I like McCain, but to hear him talk about religion in this clip it is clear that he is a religious bigot.
Not only that, how can he be running for president and NOT know that the constitution did NOT establish USA as a Christian nation. Thus, he is not only a bigot, but also deluded.

@PwnBucket Read the Declaration of Independence, and read the dollar bill. We were estsablished by Christians looking for religious freedom. Now it's being taken away. Its okay to be ignorant bit it's not okay to stay that way.
@panosmj1976 Look up Thomas J. He was a secularist, as the other founding fathers. If it was really a christian nation, they'd say so, explicitly, word by word. They just believed in a god. :/
@PwnBucket The only seperation that is written in the establishment of this country is that the goverment can not establish a national church. the first three words that were used interchangable with church were all denomination meaning that the goverment cannot make catholic or christianity the national church. Not being rude or anything but look back at the first three copies of the first admendment and you will see what i mean.
maybe "all points of view" means points of view with some kind of evidence of possible credibility, and intelligent design along with several other atheist theories deserve to be presented but you instead choose to mock this notion. and many of the founders were theists or deists... they wanted seperation of church and state to prevent the government from forcing beliefs on the people as it was in the past. do not assume that someone with different beliefs than you is automatically a moron.
Unless this was a typo... "intelligent design along with several other atheist theories..." Atheists do not believe in intelligent design. Nor do they have any theories at all. They are just people that do not believe in God. NO THEORY other than evolution has any possible credibility (within reason).
you misread what i typed, probably because of my poor choice of words... anyway, i did not mean that christianity was an atheist view. i meant that christianity, along with several atheist views, and even theist views other than christianity should be presented. intelligent design is a respected theory even among atheist scientists, do not assume that evolution has undeniable credibility otherwise there would be no other theories.
...vice-versa, meaning that it is entirely plausible that a being (or deity) that exists outside of the laws of this existence was responsible for our existence. there is some possible credibility for something other than evolution. now you can join the ret of us in the quest for the answer rather than blindly condemning others for their views when you do not fully understand theirs or your own. plz get back to me =)
on the theory of evolution subject, in order for us to have evolved, there must have been something for us to evolve from. so the question is where did the original matter come from? as i have no doubt that you put your trust in science, as any intelligent person does, i would like to know how this origin of matter came about. because according to the laws of thermodynamics matter can not be created or destroyed, and all order falls to disorder not...
When we look @ the statistics for the red states, areas of higher religiosity, compared to the blue, guess who won the shittiness award? The lands in which inhabit the most of our dear delusional friends win, of course. Atheists account for about 12 percent of the population,& yet they account for .2% of those in prison,if I remember correctly. Evangelicals have the highest divorce rate in the country.
ok so I guess John Mccain calls for the teaching of the giant spaghetti monster too, and every single other type of creation myth. There's a very good way to scientifically evaluate the claim that his faith is the superior type of spiritual guide. We simply look at the statistics.America is by far the most religious industrialized country. Our crime rates are highest (violent, & non violent), we have by far the highest rates of Stds, & highest divorce rates.
ouch! 'All points of view should be accepted'. what a fucking cop out.you're one way or the other, John.and this man clearly knows nothing about the founding fathers.the majority of them were deists in public.stress the word public. Its scary that this man could, and probably will, win the election.
i don't have much faith in the polls actually.I'm not so sure of the validity of them.I've never been asked who I'd vote for.Plus, theres been plenty of occasions, especially in my homeland Britain, where the polls have meant fuck all, e.g. thatchers second term
I guess I agree, but that's all the data we really have to go on. And he is winning by a very wide margin at this point, so hopefully the error in the polls is negated by the overwhelming majority.
Attention voters; There is a Republican representative from Texas who I have found to be a very intelligent and articulate man, and just as honest as a politician! ...No not George W! His name is RON PAUL! As of September 22nd, 2008, Ron Paul has officially endorsed Chuck Baldwin, candidate of the Constitution Party. So Americans I implore you, let us rid ourselves of the two party system once and for all. Support Ron Paul! Vote for Chuck Baldwin! Support the Revolution ;)
This nation is not a christian nation. The founding fathers new the dangers of giving religion a say in government. In fact the first money to say "In god we trust" was not until 1865 two cent piece. And the origional pledge of allegience did not say, "One nation, under god". "Under God" was added in the 1950s in response to the red scare and atheists were thought to be communists. Slowly the fundelmentist sneak there agenda into the government.

Religion is not a topic that should be discussed when it comes to politics. It is completely absurd that presidential election places so much emphasis on the candidates religious background.
McCain's actions demonstrate his willingness to do whatever it takes to gain the presidency, regardless of the ramifications for the country. From courting the religious right to choosing Palin; he may have been a maverick once, but no more. Now he's an old man with one more credit to add to his resume.
...and in-fucking-fact, they *DID* mean separation of church and state, so that we couldn't play favorites, which is part of the supposed "freedom" and crap we were really founded on...I just don't trust this guy anymore.
"As the government of the United States of America is not in any sense founded on the Christian Religion,-as it has in itself no character of enmity against the laws, religion or tranquility of Musselmen..."
Thomas Jefferson, Article 11, Treaty of Tripoli
(The guy that wrote the Declaration of Independence)
means that theres a high percentage. simple as that. i mean, we still write "in god we trust" on our dollars and have our students say "one nation, under god" so you could argue that we could be called a Christian nation. if the argument is that it should be worded "a GENERALLY christian nation" then i could see that argument being made. because generally christian is more accurate than christian when referring to america.
just my opinion. really do hope the guy loses to Barack. really like him
Heres whats funny if S.o.C.a.State really existed then what you said would be true. Not only is it on our money, its in our army, its in our courts, people still get sworn into office in the USA. HELLO where do you see seperation. Even if that term never came about The whole of ever major US system brings God into the picture somewhere so yea. Oh an if this is America every point should be given DUE light no matter what it is if we really are a free country!!
as a supporter of obama, and a believer of the theory of evolution, i think mccain is getting too much crap here. he's not saying to do away with separation of church and state, but rather to teach both sides of how we got here. to teach that there is a controversy. i dont see whats wrong with that, and about the "christian nation" thing, hes somewhat right. a high percentage of americans are christian, compared to other nations. this does not mean we all are, or that we all should be, it just-
Obama as a Constitutional Law Professor DOES NOT speak about the Unconstitutional Federal Reserve System, a bank owned by private bankers (so it isn't more Federal than Fedex) which CANNOT be audited by Congress. I need Obama to rally against this institution (the biggest scam on the American People). I also need him to take the CONSTITUTIONAL FOREIGN POLICY position - Non Intervention (that means no military bases anywhere and our troops home), after all we are a Republic not an Empire.
Ugh, this nation isn't ruled by Christians, but there are so many that the country basically makes is decisions based on christian principals because all those people.
Evolution is not a belief - like believing in fairies or gods.
Evolution is confirmed by genetics, geology, and every branch of biology. Sciences that weren't even conceived of when Darwin and Wallace were writing confirm their science.
America was founded by Deists, not Christians. Claiming that America is a "Christian nation" is inflamatory, not uncontested.
It takes faith to believe in evolution. Did you personally analyze the theory in a lab yourself? Doubtful. You are putting faith into the scientists and what they put in science books. The big bang cannot be proven by any scientist. I agree, (micro) evolution/adaptation/natural selection can be confirmed using genetics, geology, and every branch of biology, but the big bang occurrence and any trace of ape ancestry cannot. There is zero proof.
Wrong. It takes observation and intelligence to believe in evolution. No, I haven't reviewed it in a lab. But faith is blind, and I can see the logical evidence presented and use reason to assess its truth.
"There is zero proof?!" Really? Did you just make yourself sound that dumb? Never speak in absolutes when arguing; you're bound to fuck up.
Do research. Non-Biblical research. Preferably GENETIC research. BIOLOGICAL research. The evidence is there.
Oh dear, I'm pretty sure a presidential candidate should know more than that about the constitution of his own nation. I know more about it, and I'm British.
"I shall need, too, the favor of that Being in whose hands we are, who led our fathers, as Israel of old, from their native land and planted them in a country flowing with all the necessaries and comforts of life; who has covered our infancy with His providence and our riper years with His wisdom and power and to whose goodness I ask you to join in supplications with me that He will so enlighten the minds of your servants... that whatsoever they do shall result in your good..." ~Thomas Jefferson
what the hell is wrong wit McCain THIS IS NOT A FREAKIN CHRISTIAN NATION just look in the Treaty Of Tripoli. He is deviating the words of our forefathers for his own benefit.
oooh boy... should intelligent design be teached in schools? are you ppl nuts?
when has religion been part of science?
According to pisa08 study the best education is here (Finland) and no we dont teach religious stories as fact or even the posibility that they might be true in some ridicilous way...
one to even suggest these things shouldnt be runing the country or in any administrative position. The minute president declares he has strong religious faith he/she should be fired.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Carlitos1010, just because you are happy now doesn't believe hell doesn't exist. Btw, I hate the idea of hell! But it's actually.."extremely childish".. to stake your eternal destination on WISHFUL thinking/assumption. What if you are wrong? Your eternal life is too priceless to gamble with / take chances on :( Life is a vapor compared to eternity. I have heard of enough death-bed experiences to convince me there's an AFTER-LIFE. Which may be PRECISELY why Satan wants us to be "HAPPY ATHEISTS".
Reject living in fear, Satan/God are just fictional characters. If there is an afterlife I guess we'll find out when we die right? there's no point in breaking our heads or adjusting our lives with the thought of death or an afterlife in our minds.
Let's say there is an afterlife, what tells you that you will be judged based on what today might be categorized as 'bad' or 'good'. Remember that 'bad and good' are just perceptions attached to this ripple of time, I know of other times when even human sacrifice was not categorized as 'bad'.
We as humans tend to think in binaries and we see our world that way, light/darkness, up/down, left/right, good/evil, etc. Let's evolve as human beings and realize that we have no control of what will happen after we die, maybe we are part of a bigger energy, it's really irrelevant.
Let's believe in ourselves as people instead of in some supernatural being who loves us but at the same time will torture us in a special place called hell... in case we didn't follow his orders, that kind of God simply does not exist and any belief in a supernatural being with such human characteristics is simply childish.
@panosmj1976 And the day will come, when the mystical generation of Jesus, by the Supreme Being as His Father, in the womb of a virgin, will be classed with the fable of the generation of Minerva, in the brain of Jupiter.Thomas Jefferson
the candidates u have there are distorting history and facts and allways comparing something to the nazis(the evil demons who werent even human)
and suddently very clear words of the international law suddently became "vague"
and "this doesent excactly mean this i think" when few years ago everyone knew what the fuck torture is and why its against geneves rules buuut twisting twisting twisting
@Visfen it was 1779 and As the Supreme Court of Florida said in 1950: "Different species of democracy have existed for more than 2,000 years, but democracy as we know it has never existed among the unchurched. A people unschooled about the sovereignty of God, the ten commandments and the ethics of Jesus, could never have evolved the Bill of Rights, the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.
They just teach the fundementalist christian view of creation.
here if u pick religion, they dont teach u about faith they just objectively look different religions and teach how they operate who do they belive and so on...
"During almost fifteen centuries has the legal establishment of Christianity been on trial. What has been its fruits? More or less, in all places, pride and indolence in the clergy; ignorance and servility in the laity; in both, superstition, bigotry, and persecution."
@pizzathehutt47 As the Supreme Court of Florida said in 1950: "Different species of democracy have existed for more than 2,000 years, but democracy as we know it has never existed among the unchurched. A people unschooled about the sovereignty of God, the ten commandments and the ethics of Jesus, could never have evolved the Bill of Rights, the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution.
@panosmj1976 I do believe that countries such as Sweden and Switzerland, left-leaning countries, WITHOUT the Bill of Rights, Declaration of Independence, and the Constitution are voted and seen as a better place to live than the US- the violence rate is low (But rising because of muslims and christians moving in), the abortion rate is low, income is high, happiness is high, government is seen as good and so on. And, all left-leaning countries are actually more-so democratic than the US of A.
Can't wait till the muslims, and christians blow each other up. Then the rest of us can get on with reality. The founders had different views on faith, but most all agreed (not lightly either as the law was heavily debated)religion cannot be a standard forced on any man. Most important is man must be a end in himself.

They are just people that do not believe in God. NO THEORY other than evolution has any possible credibility (within reason).
Anxiously awaiting a response, Sputnik.

you misread what i typed, probably because of my poor choice of words... anyway, i did not mean that christianity was an atheist view. i meant that christianity, along with several atheist views, and even theist views other than christianity should be presented. intelligent design is a respected theory even among atheist scientists, do not assume that evolution has undeniable credibility otherwise there would be no other theories.
xxHAVIKxx 3 years ago
...vice-versa, meaning that it is entirely plausible that a being (or deity) that exists outside of the laws of this existence was responsible for our existence. there is some possible credibility for something other than evolution. now you can join the ret of us in the quest for the answer rather than blindly condemning others for their views when you do not fully understand theirs or your own. plz get back to me =)
xxHAVIKxx 3 years ago
on the theory of evolution subject, in order for us to have evolved, there must have been something for us to evolve from. so the question is where did the original matter come from? as i have no doubt that you put your trust in science, as any intelligent person does, i would like to know how this origin of matter came about. because according to the laws of thermodynamics matter can not be created or destroyed, and all order falls to disorder not...
xxHAVIKxx 3 years ago
-"so the question is where did the original matter come from?"-
I have read this over and over again, evolution does not explain the origin of matter. Talk to a physicist.

Evangelicals have the highest divorce rate in the country.
mln9898 3 years ago 2
ok so I guess John Mccain calls for the teaching of the giant spaghetti monster too, and every single other type of creation myth.

The polls say he is losing by a big margin, thankfully.
DanHipp 3 years ago
i don't have much faith in the polls actually.I'm not so sure of the validity of them.I've never been asked who I'd vote for.Plus, theres been plenty of occasions, especially in my homeland Britain, where the polls have meant fuck all, e.g. thatchers second term
finchy633 3 years ago

Now he's an old man with one more credit to add to his resume.

means that theres a high percentage. simple as that. i mean, we still write "in god we trust" on our dollars and have our students say "one nation, under god" so you could argue that we could be called a Christian nation. if the argument is that it should be worded "a GENERALLY christian nation" then i could see that argument being made. because generally christian is more accurate than christian when referring to america.
just my opinion. really do hope the guy loses to Barack. really like him

Oh an if this is America every point should be given DUE light no matter what it is if we really are a free country!!

as a supporter of obama, and a believer of the theory of evolution, i think mccain is getting too much crap here. he's not saying to do away with separation of church and state, but rather to teach both sides of how we got here. to teach that there is a controversy. i dont see whats wrong with that, and about the "christian nation" thing, hes somewhat right. a high percentage of americans are christian, compared to other nations. this does not mean we all are, or that we all should be, it just-
AlecW1234 3 years ago
Obama as a Constitutional Law Professor DOES NOT speak about the Unconstitutional Federal Reserve System, a bank owned by private bankers (so it isn't more Federal than Fedex) which CANNOT be audited by Congress. I need Obama to rally against this institution (the biggest scam on the American People). I also need him to take the CONSTITUTIONAL FOREIGN POLICY position - Non Intervention (that means no military bases anywhere and our troops home), after all we are a Republic not an Empire.

"Foundational Falsehood of Creationism"
saintearth 3 years ago
It takes faith to believe in evolution. Did you personally analyze the theory in a lab yourself? Doubtful. You are putting faith into the scientists and what they put in science books. The big bang cannot be proven by any scientist. I agree, (micro) evolution/adaptation/natural selection can be confirmed using genetics, geology, and every branch of biology, but the big bang occurrence and any trace of ape ancestry cannot. There is zero proof.
ggchezagg 3 years ago
Show me GOD at work in a lab.

one to even suggest these things shouldnt be runing the country or in any administrative position. The minute president declares he has strong religious faith he/she should be fired.

Which may be PRECISELY why Satan wants us to be "HAPPY ATHEISTS".
julia707 3 years ago
Reject living in fear, Satan/God are just fictional characters. If there is an afterlife I guess we'll find out when we die right? there's no point in breaking our heads or adjusting our lives with the thought of death or an afterlife in our minds.
Carlitos1010 3 years ago
Let's say there is an afterlife, what tells you that you will be judged based on what today might be categorized as 'bad' or 'good'. Remember that 'bad and good' are just perceptions attached to this ripple of time, I know of other times when even human sacrifice was not categorized as 'bad'.
Carlitos1010 3 years ago
We as humans tend to think in binaries and we see our world that way, light/darkness, up/down, left/right, good/evil, etc. Let's evolve as human beings and realize that we have no control of what will happen after we die, maybe we are part of a bigger energy, it's really irrelevant.
Carlitos1010 3 years ago
Let's believe in ourselves as people instead of in some supernatural being who loves us but at the same time will torture us in a special place called hell... in case we didn't follow his orders, that kind of God simply does not exist and any belief in a supernatural being with such human characteristics is simply childish.
