The reasons that I used this video instead of the new movie is that

- The song is a parody of Sarah Brightman's relationship with Andrew Lloyd Webber, and she's in this video so I thought it would be weird to use the one with Emmy Rossum.

- The guy with the queer mask looks more like Webber than Gerry does :)

- The old version is funnier for this kind of thing since it's, like you say, totally overdramatic and looks more like the 1980's than 1880 :) Thank you for your comment!

He has a nice singing voice, but I much prefer this guy over him. xD The first time I ever heard Phantom was with the movie, so I fell in love with Gerard Butler's voice...
