Technically, "daddy long legs" is just colloquial term for a family of arachnids called Opiliones, which aren't actually spiders like a very similar family of insects called Pholcidae. Both familes are called "daddy long legs" because, well, they have humongously oversized legs compared to their tiny bodies. It's mostly just Americans; being silly. :)

From his description of the organism in question this is most definitely Phalangium Opilio not Pholcus Phangioides. You see..when mother nature asked about its abdomen, thorax etc. the responses given to her described P. Opilio's fused cephalothorax and abdomen which gives it the appearance of having just a head. P. Phangioides is a spider. P. Opilio is not.
