  • The first time I ever read anything about Buddhism, after watching Kung Fnd thinking it was cool was of Alan Watt's books. I already had a religioun in was content...a form of Christianity. I like Watt's book anyway.

  • I like it

  • great miX dawg. :)

  • man you've fuck this up.

    sigh

  • wish I could just hear Alan without all the jump around

  • This is garbage. Just post him talking.

  • i see he likes the band nirvana too

    not srs

  • It is amazing how the most profound things are connected to the most mundane and even silly. When Allan clutched his hands together -I was reminded of Princess Leia's "The more star systems will slip through your fingers." comment to Tarkin-haha.

Everything is truly one and we just can't see this fact of life in our ignorance.

I think one of the best descriptions ever of our situation is that WE and this Reality are

"Termini upon a mirage." -Richard Grossinger in his book "2013" Peace!!

  • check out my alan watts video in edited here watch?v=T_oWRxf2Nrs

  • It always gives me pause when people who are born to riches, ruin their own life by not being able to control themselves. They arrive at a clichéd, self important conclusion - believing that they have arrived at some great truth.

Yet, the vast majority of folk hold their families together, and work hard to have their lives together They will never receive the praise which pseudo intellectuals like Alan Watts continue to receive long after they are dead and buried.

  • yet another no life pseudo spielberg

    hang em high !!

  • Another one who doesn't get it fucking up an Alan Watts video.

  • This vid is kinda lame. Love Alan Watts don't get me wrong

  • @Zachdudeio2 agreed... Tries to hard.

  • Interesting video!

This is an invitation to anyone or everyone see an artist theory on the physics of light and time!

This theory is based on two postulates

    1. Is that the quantum wave particle function Ψ represents the forward passage of time ∆E ∆t ≥ h/2π itself

    2. Is that Heisenberg’s Uncertainty Principle ∆×∆p×≥h/4π that is formed by the w- function is the same uncertainty we have with any future event that we can interact with turning the possible into the actual!

  • whats this shit in between I came here for Alan Watts!?

  • @ChuckNorrisKratosLOL Thennn, find your own footage of him and upload it. Do not enforce what you think someone else ought to do with their own interpretation. =) Do not even bother commenting... it is moot.

  • @Zeanu Where did you find the original footage?

  • @twilly3990 It isn't mine. Ask ReflectedFlicks. But maybe I got a few sources.

  • I saw seeing the early Alan. My god, was he light years ahead of the populace

  • this video is scary

  • @ChuckNorrisKratosLOL Kratos and Chuck approve your comment.

  • Today i realized i really am scared and the belief that i wasn't was just a delusion.

  • I love it, "Modern times are scary!, Alan is here to help!"

  • Ha. I love the choice of Radiohead in the background:)

  • Wonderful edition. (:

  • all of this mystical philosophy concerns the feeling of your senses, when they have been integrated with your thought in a way. with your rational reflection on reality/the senses. marijuana can help you get more sensitive to it. mushrooms and lsd allow you to experience it firsthand. all in all,. however, it is the awareness of life that we are getting in touch with. regardless of your tool, your tao is my tao.

  • This just makes him look like a nut job to be honest.

  • @Kan2209 You have hit the nail on the head. All the "editing" and "garnishing" turns this video into a shattered image of what should be a direct and clear message.

  • bad edit

  • Nobody needs to go anywhere else. We are all, if we only knew it, already there. If I only knew who in fact I am, I should cease to behave as what I think I am; and if I stopped behaving as what I think I am, I should know who I am. What in fact I am. - aldous huxley

  • radiohead + alan watts

  • just play the video dry.

  • Yea, Upload the video... Don't edit it, we don't want that.

  • we are waking up now.

  • @itsguido... Is this guido hatzis?

Btw, I've never heard of the religion of Alan before. Do they worship Alan?

  • Watts this religion called?

  • Alan and Radiohead again!

  • I have to disagree with a lot of the posts here. I am a professional motion graphics designer and an avid Alan Watts fan; and I would say that I understood the meaning of this fine, and also thought the editing was not bad and actually quite interesting. There are loads of youtube clips of the original films if that's what you want - this was a different approach.

  • I think if you'd been able to ask Alan Watt I think he would have told you that Radiohead is a crappy band. What better way to live out your fears than by hearing Thom go nyaaaah nyaaaaaaaaah waaaahhh moooooooooooooaaan.

  • i hated the last seconds

  • PLEASE DONT READ THIS. YOU WILL GET KISSED ON THE NEAREST POSSIBLE FRIDAY BY THE LOVE OF YOUR LIFE. TOMORROW WILL BE THE BEST DAY OF YOUR LIFE. HOWEVER IF YOU DONT POST THIS COMMENT something bad will happen. NOW UV STARTED READIN DIS DUNT STOP THIS IS SO SCARY. SEND THIS TO 5 VIDEOS IN 143 MINUTES WHEN UR DONE PRESS F6 AND UR CRUSHES NAME WILL APPEAR ON THE SCREEN IN BIG LETTERS. THIS IS SO SCARY CAUSE IT ACTUALLY WORKS THIS ACTUALLY WORKS

  • to me that sounded like paranoid android by radio head, backwards.

  • this is a pretty bad video to much going on

  • we cause conflict , alienation of our self is what this video is about

  • Look at your actions and ask "Am I doing this from love, or from fear?". If you are working in fear, you will get fear, and it will do nothing to help you. If you are really working from love you will get love.

  • what song is this/

  • Fear is a useless emotion unless it saves your life. If you have no control over it and you fear it, get out of its way or let it wash over you stoicly. If you have control over it, know what it takes to handle it and be not afraid.

So many things in our lives are taken as givens but in actuality can be changed when our perception changes.

THANKS FOR POSTING THIS VID!! It must have taken you a bit of time, keep up the good work and ignore the haters! Refressing to see a non-monotone Watts =-D

  • Alan Watts is my Guru!!!

  • @u2bMonkey mine too. youtube the word OSHO : )

  • Thought it was a nice video.

  • allen watts must have somehow inspired 'le planete sauvage'

  • EFFECTIVE IS WHAT THE VIDEO IS.

  • for all those out there who think this is confusing. you are stupid.

  • @robynhriley n u r right,,,happy now?

  • what talk is the old black and white footage from?

  • I totally lost the point of it by the end. Nice work on destroying his enlightened message.

  • "If you begin to resist fear, you begin to be afraid of fear"

    -Alan Watts.

Not only is that true but if you resist "fear" you are "resisting REALITY," if you are feeling "fear" it is best not to resist what "is." Feel it fully and it will dissolve/go away. It may take awhile, but it will happen.

  • can you upload the regular vid.. so many cut ups .. so unnecessary

  • this video is obnoxious. poor taste. weak message. horrible music choice. :(

  • @mixxiegurl The message is anything but weak.

  • @xXxRav3rRawrBabyxXx- according to you. you're annoying.

  • Best part is at 2:22

Too bad this video is so... Badly made. In fact, it's quite terrible. It's confusing, it's hard to follow (because there isn't anything to follow) and well... It's just bad!

  • whats wrong with pepople who make mashups like this??

I guessed the uploader is a young guy and sure enough I checked...

  • i didnt like this at all. whilst trying to listen to what watt was saying i kept getting disturb my music and other excerpts from different videos, do try keeping it more basic thanku

  • This video is very confusing - too many clips - and distracting. Nice try in terms of adding other videos to fit into the discussion, but too many videos of Alan talking in different parts confuses matters more.

  • I think this video got me high. o.O

  • Yes, this video is an incoherent mess of a montage of clips. Garbage.

  • i like turtles

  • this is a terrible out of context bastardization of alan watts' fundamental message

  • Terrific Game! so addictive 2 play!! i can pre test the games b4 they come out to the public by signing up to "BetaTestGamers" - check them out on google u only need 2 do a short review and u can keep the game

  • yeah

  • Nice! Radiohead :)

  • Why does every retard who posts a Watts clip feel the need to "augment it" (read: ruin it) with wretched music and stupid, half-ass editing?

These people clearly are too stupid to understand that what Watts is saying is profound enough without having this nonsense added to it.

  • Agree.

  • @Jackinthehizzle beware of pseudo-intellectual critics, who have to complain and rant about their understanding of the true and "profound" underpinnings of so-and-so's philosophical perspective. Watts might agree that their yapping is mentally exhausting, and a serious buzz-kill. Watts might also agree, "Those who speak do not know. Those who know, do not speak,"

  • Great Video Alan Watts over RadioHead!

  • the anti globalisation version. big

  • Check out Kymatica on Google Video or Youtube...brilliant stuff :) Happy New Year!

  • avoid getting too abstract about this stuff. it's much simpler than it may seem. in fact the entire series of clips and lectures is a continuous talk about an illusion, fear. when you all start talking about moral, you are talking about the same thing, an illusion. there are no morals. we are all certainly intelligent enough to understand what is appropriate in a growing community and not. the only crimes that are committed are against each others personal ideals of the ego.

  • I think for every action there is a consequence and based on this observation we determine what is good and bad. I think there are some illusions when it comes to morals, for when someone does something to satisfy ones ego, he/she will say they are good, but they ignore or are unaware of the consequences. Because of consequences of our actions, we are all connected like water and not separate , what i do effects you and what you do effects me or another, and we all move together like water.

  • So what then do you think is really feeling good? What is true happiness? Do you think there is a definition? (an honest question)

  • I think there are many truths not one so you can't get a definition of happiness.

  • lol just checkin

  • unity with what makes us unified, what makes us unified is the...

  • 8 to 10 honest work everyday and sport afterwards.

  • @yoseph89 100% with you on that one.

  • @yoseph89

sorry, i konw you wrote this a year ago, but you miss one of alans greatest points, illusion is just as real as an actuality.

  • @nathanwalker462 yes, i suppose it is as real, to the extent that you are the universe... lol

  • @yoseph89

Yeah, that's one of the points i disagree on, the whole "you are everything" mentality.

  • @nathanwalker462 why do you disagree with it?

  • @yoseph89

because he speaks of contrast as being the mechanics of existance, ex. his ying/yang stuff yet he says that there is an absolute, being yourself. I agree you need contrast to have existance, light to have dark, but it is the action of both of these we call the universe, or "everything". to say that somthing inside the universe, being ourselves, is the universe is as daft an expression as saying the ocean is made of drops.

  • @nathanwalker462 hmm i dont think you were listening very carefully... either that or you haven't listened to very many videos or read his books... he doesn't think the inside or outside are exclusively absolutely... in fact, he says exactly what you just said, that you need both... listen to the short video on "nothingness"... he says just this

  • @yoseph89

I have watched this, and I think you missed the part where I was quoting him on the discussion of contrast. That's exactly what I'm saying: if you claim "... in fact, he says exactly what you just said, that you need both..." as you just did, how can the contents of the universe be the universe aswell? the point I'm making is that nullifies the concept of contrasts if you veiw parts as a whole. I'm not preaching the theory of contrasts, I'm adressing it.

  • @nathanwalker462 ur just saying he's cheating a little bit? That he discusses a duality and, therefore, can't claim the universe is whole? Your giving something like an argument from physicalism. Or maybe your claiming functionalism? I am now obviously unsure of what you've argued so far, or what you really mean.

  • The tighter the empire's grip the more star systems slip between their fingers...

  • @ geniegogo :

A nice quote. Star Wars is full of great symbol and metaphor.

  • Don't get me wrong, I love Alan Watts. But i found this video very hard to follow because all the clips have been cut up and thrown in from all over the place. Each clip is from a different talk, therefore has its own context. I felt it lost a lot of its meaning because of that.

Sorry to sound so negative. Just sharing what I felt.

  • @wogboy711 its called relativity

  • @wogboy711 I agree, you can change the meaning of the original talks by taking the bits out of context and rearranging them.

I like this mashup ofr what it is, but respect the original recordings first n foremost.

  • @wogboy711 reflectedflicks is a product of our age. Children are brought up on tv and malls where the senses are over stimulated and the mind doesn't get bored because so much is happening. As a result a lot of people have a problem concentrating. In our modern, western culture, more is seen as better. In Zen there is no boredom, no waiting. This is such a shamozel Watts must be turning in his grave.

  • @jellyhead55 This is true. Good point.

  • @wogboy711 THEN just pay attention you and the 40 people who gave you a thumbs up just pay attention

  • @wogboy711

That's because you're not 'listening' - you're watching the video as if it were some 'thing' to understand. You have to hear every word as if it were said to your 'self' - because in reality you can only talk to your 'self'

  • @wogboy711 You said it bro. Alan Watt's words work and work well by themselves, They don't need to be MTV'd to carry any greater weight.

  • @wogboy711 I feel the same way. some parts of it worked well but I feel like the point was lost.

  • @wogboy711 i do understand this part at 1:24 : social intercourse

  • @tube4625 yeah it's like sexual intercourse but without the sexy bit

  • @tobo86 lol you mean jerking off haha

  • @tube4625 Nah, I think that's masturbintercourse

  • @wogboy711 god yes. i just want to see some old clips of the man doing his thing and in almost every single time i find something potentially excellent it turns out some idiot has wiped his butt with it

  • great video.......... take away the fear and recieve you future.

  • but there is NO future to BE recieved...the past and the future are all in your mind... in fact the root of fear IS the idea of "future" i.e. I'm afraid of this and that because I make a projection of what's going to hapen when I face those elements. You would have no fear of someone pointing a gun at you if someone hadn't stuk it in your hed that that's liable to get you kiiled and that diyng is a bad thing. (I'm not saying its a good thing either; what it IS, however, is NATURAL).

  • It's meaningless to say any given thing is "natural" or "unnatural".

The main determinate of how people act is to what extent they are thinking about the future/how far into the future they think/how far into the future they act as if they'll exist. The further into the future they act as if they'll exist the more likely they are to act in a seemingly altruistic manner.

  • ...Getting rid of your fear is like getting rid of your morality and indeed being moral is largely a matter of how strong you are. Weak people, people overwhelmed by their fear, find ways to avoid doing anything but the most clearly short term selfish acts.

The act of being a philosopher, always thinking and reading, etc, indicates, by the way, someone who actually was acting as if they'd be alive for a long time indeed and thinking very far into the future.

  • "Getting rid of your fear is like getting rid of your morality"... but isn't a fear-based morality kind of shallow? Going back the whole eternal damnation scenario, if you only give someone a piece of bred so you'll avoid going to hell on account of your "generosity", well that's actually no generosity at all now, is it? Authentic morality must (imho) be free of fear. That's why Lao Tzu said that a Sage isn't concerned with gain or loss, punishment or reward. He is free of fear, thus truly moral

  • That would be shallow. It wouldn't even count as being moral in my opinion. But it isn't what I meant.

Just meant to say that some of the things we do to conquer fear don't necessarily make us better persons. As an example look at the positivity cult as written about in Barbara Ehrenreich's new book Bright-Sided. People who avoid reading the news, dismiss "negative" people from their lives, etc, are simply less ethical people.

Yes, that wouldn't be authentic morality. I agree.

  • More seemingly altruistic because they have a more long term selfish reason to see happiness filling up the world, etc around them.

  • so badass.

  • Alan Watts has something to say. On the other hand the background noice are disgusting, disturbing and useless. Who have added that crap and for what purpose?

  • artistic purposes would be my guess. personally, i liked the collage.

  • Does anyone have the link to the black and white video?

  • great video

  • Nice video thanks for your hard work!

  • thats radio head in the back ground 2+2= 5

  • alan was hot when he was young whoo hooo ;) lol

  • the coloured clips come from one of Alan Watts' talks on time, not fear..

  • ANNOYING....FUCK OFF

  • kilo-Watts

  • Good job. Watts is the dude!

  • By using all these clips, can you make Alan Watts say "i like waffles"?

    kthx

  • no.

but he can say "I drink your milkshake!"

  • i am god

  • is there anything that is not god?

  • no absolutley not

  • We can accept God becoming man to save man. But not man becoming God to save himself. -Vernon Linwood Howard

  • Cool Music~ who is it? The last piece that is

  • Radiohead - A punchup at a wedding

  • Paranoid Android is the name of the music being played backwards.

  • fear and love cannot dwell in the same house said Gahil Gibran. Alan Watts is into Zen-like the moment i say this is my hand-ive created an illusion you've labeled what is. Anyways Zens to abstract i feel as we do live in the material world, though we are spirits. i don't know.....

  • We are the creator in the created having a holiday from heaven to bear witness to our creation, our playground, our garden where things grow.

  • What radiohead song is it in the beginning or is it just played backwards?

  • Seems like there should be more to this video, I'll take what I can get though. It's great as is regardless of what else I've said. Gonna have to see this again in the future.

  • I think the idea of "fear vs. love" is valid if you accept love as simply meaning "acceptance". To fear something is to reject it, to love something is to accept it.

But, as Alan Watts would undoubtedly point out, you can't accept everything, nor can you reject everything. So you have to have fear to have love and vice versa. Saying everything is X is a meaningless statement no matter what you define as X.

  • It can be said that each is his or her own ratio of fear to love.

  • this seems to be a part of a series of videos of alan mixed with radiohead anyone have anyinformation as to the source of these?

  • awesome vid

  • beautiful work.

  • this video is really dope, I make my own positive propaganda and am happy to see so many of us being an active part in our media. Thank you!

  • if you split it apart it rebuilds itself like some skynet machine...but thats cool.

  • I've wondered many times what if there are really only two emotions in life, FEAR and LOVE?

FEAR contracts, FEAR pulls in, FEAR wants to hoard and keep.

LOVE expands, LOVE reaches out, LOVE wants to give and share everything.

No doubt that FEAR runs everything down here, and we keep waiting for "The Good Kingdom of God", that never comes. But what if God just wants us to choose one or the other... Do you choose fear or do you choose love? It seems God would wish us love, yet it's SO HARD!

  • story of my life

  • story of all our lives ;p

  • there's a book called "conversations with god" by neale donald walsh (or something) that pretty much says what you just said: "fear vs. love"

  • I don't know if love is the opposite of fear. To me the opposite is faith, or possibly simply the ignorance of danger. Similarly, hate is the opposite of love, not fear. One could make the argument that any two emotions are the only emotions in life and all others are ancillary. Empathy - prejudice, for example.

  • In reality there is only love. Fear is illusion.

Keep watching yourself steadily and you will discover that. Fear is born out of the past. From past experience expectations are created in your mind thus fear arises. But everything is in you not outside. Unexpected life is real life. It is what it is. You are love, but you forget yourself because you take interest in past and future and not the now. It is so simple that people overlook it and then suffer.

  • I think I can dig what you're saying, xbr123 "Unexpected life is real life. It is what it is." So, go for direct experience. Be totally in THE NOW. Like T. McKenna said "the dominator culture is not interested in the felt presence of immediate experience, but that's what holds the community together..."

Like when people come together through music or dance... I'm happiest when I'm lost in the beat, totally in the present moment, it's a good way to shake that "Fear Monkey" off your back. Thanks

  • Same here, i "get lost" playing table tennis. I often start out tense - after an hour the whole team has forgotten itself and is in cheerful mood about the little white ball.

Not long ago i couldn't let go at all, so it's really a process of practice. Like the OP said, it's SO HARD sometimes.

  • We live in dark times. Enough of this idolotry of Alan, you are Alan Watts. do something about it. We need to produce more people like Alan Watts. These are dark times. Spirituality in this land is a privilege not a right. Buddhism and eastern philosophies are a privelege of the upper classes and these are dark times. Great post.

  • these are not 'dark' times, only a few generations ago people were burning "witches" at the stake, they were dark times, if u know anything about spirituality u'd know there are no dark times, there is only the evolution of the soul...and btw these are great spiritual times, more people than ever understand

  • I swear I heard "Paranoid Android" by Radiohead...am I losing it?

  • Alan Watts was, and is, great, yes. But remember people: Lao Tzu was ahead of his time too if we're going to say it like that.

It's the same wisdom, just presented with different arrangements of words.

That said, I love this man.

  • hes the original obe wun kanobe, good vid

  • If you were in England where he was FROM, you NEVER saw him, on TV, or anywhere, for sure. He was HIDDEN. I had to wait YEARS to actually see him at YT!!! LOL

  • He was and still is WAY ahead of his time.

  • Alan is the man. Hugely influential on my life. He ROCKS!
