The US used to coin it's own money; in fact, it did for 137 years, and almost everyone had a nice savings account, before the Federal Reserve act of 1913. That is when the US skyrocketed to world power in a very short time. Then, in 1913, the bankers started creating all the money, and loaning it to US with interest; and everything went to hell - literally.
