This sounds so familiar. My son spent 3 days on a "clean up crew" in April of 2005. He bought a lighter from a kid trying to get money to feed his family. An hour later they found him in a ditch, decapitated. He used to love the 4th of July. Now it is just a nightmare. The sleeping pills didn't work, so they gave him something that stops him from dreaming. And until recently, he said nothing was wrong. He didn't want to be labeled.
