I would just like to say to all the console war people, one single thing.
The Xbox 360 came out a whole year earlier than the PS3 did, yet they play the same games with pretty much the same graphics - sometimes one is better than the other.
Also, people saying that the PC is absolutely beast and better than everything.
When the new consoles come out, they will be the same as computers... It's a constant rotation so stop being a dickhead.

When that is said, I am looking foreward to the next generation of consoles now. This engine is made for that next generation. Not for this current aged generation. Hoping some developers can give us a nice looking PC game in the meanwhile that can really push some of the boundries of this new engine =)

what, the ice stage cant be the hardest to run. i use a 9600m gt (laptop, yeah i know its not good), and when i get to the ice-stage i always crank up the graphics cus i get the same fps. but thats just me

I wouldn't say that... I"m a console gamer myself, but I'll admit that the shadows were changed in order to keep the game working smoothly. High quailty shadows can put a hurt on any PC, and surely consoles. I'm almost positive that by the time they release Crysis 2, that they'll find a way to get around the "shadow problem" that we saw here.
But if you're a PC gamer, then by all means, expect IMPROVED shadows on CE3 from CE2.

Well what you are saying is entirely a matter of opinion, xbox doesnt have better exclusive games it has different ones- I know for a fact that little big planet, Killzone 2, MGS4 and the like are all very good games. In addition a lot of people buy the PS3 for Blu-ray- if you are a movie lover I imagine its the biggest selling point. And no you can't play online on xbox 360 with a silver account, you really do need to pay for gold. You may not need those extra features but others might.
PS3's Graphic Unit has a non-heating 6 Core and no RROD or other Errors. Im not saying I would choose PS3 if i had the capacity to buy either one of them. But acually PS3 is a better console to use. But because there is money involved in this competition, you pay much more for the PS3 for what you get. The Xbox360 is cheap and and you dont need al the carpload you will get with PS3.
But if you have both, I recomend you to take the advantage of PS3's capacity to get the ultimate experience.
the average consumer does not want to spend a lot of cash for a pc, they dont want the hassle of downling antivirus programs etc, they dont want to have to worry about it crashing or someone stealing their information. You buy a ps3 and you plug it in. Simple your good to go.

but still, overall performance working side by side with the cell broadband engine proves that ps3 performs better than the 360. and yes the fps drops usually because those multiplatform games were ported from the xbox, which would cause problems when ported to the ps3, perfect example is gta 4 (delayed). but i think developers are going to port from ps3 now on so fps problems shouldnt occur. a perfect example is cod 4 comparisons.
EPU is better on 360... Programmers who are making 360 games have more options... I myself find it VERY hard to render things on PS3 it's a pain in the ass and the Blu-Ray option is used by 0,78% of all PS3 users... And SONY has like NO money to buy a license for a good selling game... They haven't broken any records of "most sold game"... 360: Halo3, CoD4 and Gears2 has like best performances ever... It eaven blowed crytec away at the GDC

LoL, cryengine 3 is just a cryengine made possible for both the consoles. (360 and ps3). it doesnt mean its better.. both ps3 and 360 dont have the fillrate and shaderpower that a PC can offer. (talking about a good gaming pc). The Cryengine 3 is just scaled too coop with the hardware from the PS3 or 360. thats all.
Cryengine 2 for Pc is can reach higher levels of shading and physics when set on Ultra High settings. etc.
This is as good as its gonna get for consoles, Crytek has pushed these consoles to their breaking points to make this engine possible. It looks half way decent, its still nothing compared to CryEngine 2 for Crysis, but again when compared to other Console titles, this takes the cake easily.
actually there isnt much difference from cryengine 2. the graphics are pretty much the same but i noticed that the consoles just have lower resolutions and shorter view distances. also, the 360 and ps3 have like 512mb ram, so cryengine 3 is optimized to run on low quantities of ram.

CryEngine 2 was built around future tech like Quad SLI and QuadFire. PC's had these level of graphics when Doom3 and HL2 were released years ago. This gen of consoles just got real time lighting and bump maps etc.

Good Point- but the PC has the widest array of games out of any Gaming specific console out there by far and thats a fact. The reason why i prefer PC is its role as the "Frontier" of gaming. The graphics we have now are the future of what the Console is definitively going to be,and you have Console fanboys bashing, what is basically they're future.Creatively speaking, PC doesn't have "the man" giving the final Yes or No to Development, and the cost of entry is far lower so individuality is key.

PC's have had those technologies for years. The mouse and keyboard are far superior to the controller so RTS and MMO's are played best on PC. A single 4870X2 has more processing power than EVERY SINGLE CONSOLE EVERY CREATED COMBINED-Including the PS3 and 360.
i wouldnt agree with you on the last sentence. dont underestimate the 360 and ps3's graphical power. the ati xenos (which the 360 uses) and the nvidia rsx (ps3 gpu, based on a geforce 7800 gtx) are more powerful than you think
consoles have less power, but games are optimized for those specific configurations that's why cry3 will be at least decent if not on par with PC's cry2. PC game devers have to write games that will run on many different configs, meaning that much of the pcs computational resources just get wasted. none of the resources on the consoles get wasted...not saying that consoles are just as good but always consider that any config you get, its not the same as having a game optimized for your config.

Actually they dont. All they have to add is scalability to the quality. The thing is, that while PCs have different parts that work together because the software does it, the consoles are designed to work for one single purpose. So yes, you do lose less processingpower. Also the RAM arent as important as on the PC because the data doesnt come from a slow harddrive.
Again, PC is far more powerful than a console that isnt fresh out there.
There is a big difference when it comes to dx9 and dx10. Not visually because the tricks for dx9 are quite sophisticated but you wont have smoke going through walls or ignoring moving objects in dx10, if the smoke is programmed not to that is.
So if you just look at a blob of smoke, yes there is no visual difference but the technology behind it is extremely different. Where as one fakes it and has to be considered beforehand the other one detects it and reacts accordingly.

just this preview seems to give away a bit about the new engine/games. Looks liek there's going to be time travel for a start. Back to pre-historic ages (in the woods) and then medieval ages (at the castle). Also it seems the logo may have something to do with the story, liek some kind of portal clearly. It appears on the side of the shp at the end and so it's maybe the emblem of soem kind of enemy. Looks very good indeed, can't wait for the pc version, as the console version lags a little

Just shows you how good value consoles are. My £500 PC couldn't display it as good as that 360 can. And I can get one of them new for £100. Although, i'll stick with my PS3 ;)
All I said is it couldn't display it as good as a console in full HD. Tbh, the reason it's not able to play it in high is most probibly due to my 5 year old gfx card (the one thing I didn't update). My processor and ram are no where near being used to the max even with a few setting on very high. I think 256mb gfx memory isn't enough for all the high rez textures.
Btw, MikeDCrossley. What gfx card do you have? Mine's just an x850xt. Although i'm thinking of a 1950pro as a cheap upgrade for now and then either getting a hd 4850 or 4870.
I get around 20fps at high settings with no AA and at 1280x728. However I get around 30 at med settings at the same resolution. Which I don't think is too bad for a 5 year old card. I should get a few more fps out of it if I overclock it.
no one is going to use this engine...cry tek is too late just like id and their engine. Everyone with the right mind is either going to stick with Unreal engine 3 or keep using their in house engine. And this looks TERRIBLE...this simply ported the pc engine to consoles and downgraded it. A lot of games on the market today (for consoles) look better than this...

but still, overall performance working side by side with the cell broadband engine proves that ps3 performs better than the 360. and yes the fps drops usually because those multiplatform games were ported from the xbox, which would cause problems when ported to the ps3, perfect example is gta 4 (delayed). but i think developers are going to port from ps3 now on so fps problems shouldnt occur. a perfect example is cod 4 comparisons.

EPU is better on 360... Programmers who are making 360 games have more options... I myself find it VERY hard to render things on PS3 it's a pain in the ass and the Blu-Ray option is used by 0,78% of all PS3 users... And SONY has like NO money to buy a license for a good selling game... They haven't broken any records of "most sold game"... 360: Halo3, CoD4 and Gears2 has like best performances ever... It eaven blowed crytec away at the GDC

Looks great rendered at 1280x720 at 60fps from the RSX. I can only imagine how amazing it will look on top of the line pc hardware when it comes out.

LoL, cryengine 3 is just a cryengine made possible for both the consoles. (360 and ps3). it doesnt mean its better.. both ps3 and 360 dont have the fillrate and shaderpower that a PC can offer. (talking about a good gaming pc). The Cryengine 3 is just scaled too coop with the hardware from the PS3 or 360. thats all.
Cryengine 2 for Pc is can reach higher levels of shading and physics when set on Ultra High settings. etc.

This is as good as its gonna get for consoles, Crytek has pushed these consoles to their breaking points to make this engine possible. It looks half way decent, its still nothing compared to CryEngine 2 for Crysis, but again when compared to other Console titles, this takes the cake easily.

actually there isnt much difference from cryengine 2. the graphics are pretty much the same but i noticed that the consoles just have lower resolutions and shorter view distances. also, the 360 and ps3 have like 512mb ram, so cryengine 3 is optimized to run on low quantities of ram.

Watch this video and have the Sony Bravia CryEngine 2 Remake running right next to it, then tell me there isnt much of a difference, Consoles do not support DX10- Where CryEngine 2 Exploits every advancement in DX10. CryEngine 2 was built around future tech like Quad SLI and QuadFire. PC's had these level of graphics when Doom3 and HL2 were released years ago. This gen of consoles just got real time lighting and bump maps etc.

ah.. 2005.. yes the 360 came out in 2005, but i cant recall far cry 2 existing in 2005. also on windows vista you can choose to run games in dx9 or dx10. i tried both and i barely see any difference. and consoles like the 360 and ps3 can run pretty much any game with very good graphics if you optimize the game engine for them, so its no big deal

Good Point- but the PC has the widest array of games out of any Gaming specific console out there by far and thats a fact. The reason why i prefer PC is its role as the "Frontier" of gaming. The graphics we have now are the future of what the Console is definitively going to be,and you have Console fanboys bashing, what is basically they're future.Creatively speaking, PC doesn't have "the man" giving the final Yes or No to Development, and the cost of entry is far lower so individuality is key.

By my comment of saying "PC's had these graphics when Doom3 and HL2 were released"- I meant the "Shaders and programmable T&L" were finally mainstream or what Microsoft has coined the phrase "The HD ERA". PC's have had those technologies for years. The mouse and keyboard are far superior to the controller so RTS and MMO's are played best on PC. A single 4870X2 has more processing power than EVERY SINGLE CONSOLE EVERY CREATED COMBINED-Including the PS3 and 360.

i wouldnt agree with you on the last sentence. dont underestimate the 360 and ps3's graphical power. the ati xenos (which the 360 uses) and the nvidia rsx (ps3 gpu, based on a geforce 7800 gtx) are more powerful than you think

consoles have less power, but games are optimized for those specific configurations that's why cry3 will be at least decent if not on par with PC's cry2. PC game devers have to write games that will run on many different configs, meaning that much of the pcs computational resources just get wasted. none of the resources on the consoles get wasted...not saying that consoles are just as good but always consider that any config you get, its not the same as having a game optimized for your config.

Actually they dont. All they have to add is scalability to the quality. The thing is, that while PCs have different parts that work together because the software does it, the consoles are designed to work for one single purpose. So yes, you do lose less processingpower. Also the RAM arent as important as on the PC because the data doesnt come from a slow harddrive.
Again, PC is far more powerful than a console that isnt fresh out there.

There is a big difference when it comes to dx9 and dx10. Not visually because the tricks for dx9 are quite sophisticated but you wont have smoke going through walls or ignoring moving objects in dx10, if the smoke is programmed not to that is.
So if you just look at a blob of smoke, yes there is no visual difference but the technology behind it is extremely different. Where as one fakes it and has to be considered beforehand the other one detects it and reacts accordingly.

True, the visuals arent that different but if there were a game where you could see the full difference between dx9 and 10, im guessing there would be a bigger difference. its just that as you said the performance is to low so that no programmer in his right mind would go that way, not yet.

just this preview seems to give away a bit about the new engine/games. Looks liek there's going to be time travel for a start. Back to pre-historic ages (in the woods) and then medieval ages (at the castle). Also it seems the logo may have something to do with the story, liek some kind of portal clearly. It appears on the side of the shp at the end and so it's maybe the emblem of soem kind of enemy. Looks very good indeed, can't wait for the pc version, as the console version lags a little

Just shows you how good value consoles are. My £500 PC couldn't display it as good as that 360 can. And I can get one of them new for £100. Although, i'll stick with my PS3 ;)

All I said is it couldn't display it as good as a console in full HD. Tbh, the reason it's not able to play it in high is most probibly due to my 5 year old gfx card (the one thing I didn't update). My processor and ram are no where near being used to the max even with a few setting on very high. I think 256mb gfx memory isn't enough for all the high rez textures.

I get around 20fps at high settings with no AA and at 1280x728. However I get around 30 at med settings at the same resolution. Which I don't think is too bad for a 5 year old card. I should get a few more fps out of it if I overclock it.

no one is going to use this engine...cry tek is too late just like id and their engine. Everyone with the right mind is either going to stick with Unreal engine 3 or keep using their in house engine. And this looks TERRIBLE...this simply ported the pc engine to consoles and downgraded it. A lot of games on the market today (for consoles) look better than this...

This isnt a really new Engine, this is the CryEngine 2 on, redeveloped to run on consoles. CryEngine 2 on PCs looks more awesome, because the Consoles just have pathetic ammounts of VRAM ..... textures look like shit. :/
