Rampage and Liddell have the best chance but Ortiz is a can and Forrest is still hyped. Forrest is still a few years away from contending and people will see the evident gap in talent when he fights Rampage. Forrest is basically Brandon Vera and Gonzaga in that they're all hyped but really haven't earned it.

I'll give Forrest Shogun but that wasn't exactly the same Shogun I remember in PRIDE with Fedor esque cardio and Forrest lost to both Jardine and Tito.

He's just not ready yet IMO.

I would actualy put Anderson at #1 pound for pound right now. He's the best all around fighter in the world right now due to Fedor's inactivity.

GSP is sick but is still years away from being as good as Fedor or Anderson IMO because right now GSP's best attribute is not an actual fighting discipline, it's a combination of his size, speed, cardio and explossiveness.

He's well rounded but not world class at anything so there are still bad matchups for him ala BJ Penn and Fitch.

I blame St. Pierre's early losses on his inexperience, (he started very young). But now I think he is unstoppable. St. Pierre is now blossemed, and will CRUSH B.J. Penn. Although Fedor has been actually fought many Sambo matches within the last year, (all of which he won). But maybe you're right about Anderson.

GSP is definitely refined his game since a few years ago but IMO the matchup with BJ Penn is stil a bad one for GSP. Penn is just one of those rare fighters that match up well with anyone. BJ still has better standup than GSP and has sick power in his jab.

Overall there are a lot more ways for BJ to win than GSP. The standup favors BJ and so does the ground. Basically BJ would have the advantage anywhere the fight went.

GSP would only have the advantage in the later rounds IMO.

GSP beat B.J. Penn in UFC 58. But we will probably see B.J get a chance to redeem himself soon. Although I predict GSP will win again. B.J. is good, but GSP is better. And the record shows it. Not to mention GSP's dramatic improvement since their last fight.

Bj's got the most deceptive record in MMA though. In his 4 losses he was never dominated and in 3 of those 4 losses you can make a strong case for the decision being incorrect. The Pulver fight many feel BJ won, the Machida fight BJ had to move up to 185lbs and Machida was 205lbs+ and that decision was contraversial as well as the GSP fight.

The only clear loss BJ has had was to Hughes and that was a fight BJ was dominating until he tore a rib (medical records have confirmed it).

No disrespect to B.J Penn. B.J. is an amazing fighter. But at this point in time, I think St. Pierre is a little better. I'm looking forward to their rematch more that any other fight.

I think GSP will certainly have a better gameplan going into the rematch but the standup is still going to favor BJ because of his boxing, that nasty jab of his and BJ has the better chin but I think GSP could have success attacking the lead leg of BJ and I also think that GSP can again win the ground battle as long as GSP is in top position and not on his back.

BJ is a naturally more gifted fighter and has been applying himself during training now so I would give the slightest edge to BJ.

I agree B.J is a more naturally gifted fighter. But I think GSP is the more complete fighter. I would actually give both stand-up and the ground game to GSP. But only slightly. It's so close, I wouldn't be surprised if B.J wins either. Certainly not as surprising as Forest Griffin beating Quintin Jackson. I thought Quintin would crush him for sure. I guess that just shows how many variables are at play are in this sport.

I think the matchup had a lot to do with it. Also the 9 month lay off. It's no ones fault but his own but Rampage was certainly not in the type of shape he normally is. He was soft looking and Rampage is normally someone you know will always show up in top condition.

His cardio seemed fine but his conditioning wasn't very good, he seemed noticably slower and his lack of conditioning seemed to have affected his ability to take a low kick.

I put Forest well above Gonzaga and Vera though.

Gonzaga destroyed a can though and an undersized can at that (which doesn't really matter if you're Fedor but weight seems to be a factor in the UFC because of the ability to pin someone to the cage).

The thing with Gonzaga is that his cardio is really bad so unless he gets a quick KO or sub he's gonna lose the fight the cast majority of the time IMO. I think he relies too much on low kicks and does not mix it up enough and it will continue to cost him when faced with top competition.

Gonzaga uses tons of leg kicks, his hands have power but next to no technique. His boxing is absolute garbage.

You're numbers are close. The fighters with fixed salaries were Tito and Wanderlei (meaning they did not recevie a win bonus). Wand got 150k and 75k for KO of the night (225k total). Tito got $210k, Machida 100k (50 to fight & 50 to win), Penn 250k (125k to fight & 125k to win), Thiago 50k (25k to fight & 25k to win) and Sherk 35k to fight but no win bonus. It's the same rate GSP was getting a year ago.

Sherk's been doping for at least 8 years and without the juice he's an average fighter

Barnett is the type of opponent Fedor has never faced, mainly because there aren't many other HW's with Barnett's size and ground game and if you look at Fedor's past fights we know he can be taken down and we saw that he struggled a bit with Hunt's size.

Other than Barnett there's not many that matchup well with him, Gonzaga actually matches up pretty decent with Fedor as well due to his ground game and power but Fedor would likely put him on his back and cave his face in with ground & pound

Barnett has had a good winning streak lately. Mirco Crocop has had a terrible losing streak lately. Although Crocop has a better record, and the potential to beat Fedor, I question his ability to pull it off at this point. I think the best prospects are Arlovski and Crocop. Barnett, well I question Barnett's speed. Barnett seems sluggish compared to fedor. And I think that will cause Josh Barnett problems (similar to tim sylvia's slowness.)

Barnett is surley a top contender. After seeing UFC87, I wanted to drop two more names. Ckeiko Kongo, and Brock Lesner seem very good right now. Brock Lesnar is very intriguing. And Lesnar is great on the ground. I'm not sure if UFC fighters are allowed to fight for other organizations or not. But I'm guessing most ufc fighters are private contractors. Which means that, like Randy Couture, they have to wait for their contract term to end.

Sherk was very small for WW. He's naturally 170lbs and was fighting guys like GSP & Hughes who walk around at 190lbs. No one will have favorable odds against Fedor in the near or distant future IMO.

But Barnett is a good matchup for Fedor because Barnett has world class submissons, namely his leg-locks. Barnett can stand & strike with anyone (doesn't always get the better end but is still able to stand long enough to setup his takedowns) & Barnett has the kind of size that could give Fedor problems. Fedor struggled with Hunt's size & if Barnett could get Fedor down he would likely be able to control him.

Yes me as well but that doesn't dismiss the fact that Fedor has shown somewhat of an opening to the possibility of struggling on the ground with someone much larger than him.

The way Hunt was able to wear Fedor down was eye opening. Be it undertraining or just the size of Hunt is in question but it's potentially a position he may find himself in against Barnett.

Barnett has stood with Cro Cop and he moves as fast as Fedor. Speed could be a factor but it would not be like Sylvia.

It's what people say who don't care who their opponent is. He's crushed the champ twice and looked much better in his debut return fight than both Shogun and Rampage in their UFC debut fights and was dominant in his second fight.

That's how Wanderlei's always been outside of the cage/ring, very respectful.

2 Brazilians hold UFC titles and between Shogun, Wand and Machida it will probably be 3 of the 5 belts. So "language issues" don't matter, performance is what counts in a combat sport
