i just thought i should tell you, i came upon this video over a year ago and it helped to inspire a little part of me to dive into oil paint and try new things especially with self portraits. I remembered this video awhile ago and spent all day searching for it again just to thank you for being an encouraging individual while also introducing me to other lives c:
i don't go to an art school. you don't have to go to an art school to study art! i think any university or college offer some courses in art. i'm pretty sure they have drawing class or printmaking class because they are the basics of art. =)
and i do have a deviantart account, but it's not active...i should get one.
Awesomeness! lol -___- I looked back at my self portrait right now and wanna throw it out xD then again I've never taken any art/painting class ... but still :/
What classes are you taking/did you take? I'm 23 and going to check out a school in Indiana tomorrow. They don't have fine arts, but I'm going for illustration, graphic design, and whatever else I can get my hands on. Hoping to get some life drawing and figure drawing classes on the side.
I feel like I'm lacking in composition and color theory so hopefully I can get something to do with that too.
@Josh81952 Well, I learn most of my painting skills in high school. In college, they basically taught me the same exact thing in high school. The fine art courses I took in college was Drawing I & II and Painting I (there's Painting II as well and some printmaking courses). You will have life drawings and figure drawings! It's the foundation courses into graphic design & illustration. You'll def. learn about composition & color theory so don't you worry! It's very basic.
@Josh81952 I just checked out your website. It's amazing. Really. I don't think you'll have any major trouble in your art classes. I absolutely love your gouache paintings!
ii am so inspired and now want to paint my own portrait ... you are extremely talented and ii can't wait to see what other wonderful things you bring to life ... awesome!!
wow this is so great...I always look forward to your videos..I wanna be a graphic designer but seeing your videos of traditional art are just so stunningly amazing, that they still give me inspiration...
Aww thank you! If you're planning on being a graphic designer, you gotta work your butt off. Like seriously, WORK YOUR BUTT OFF. Then again, it's the same with any profession you plan on going into. :)
I like the detail on the shadows casted by the biggg glasses. You should do a self- portrait using Picasso's cubism style. (personal project since the painting in the video is for school). I like cubism self- portraits ahaha. But yeah, your painting turned out great.
thats awesome! i would love to see it sometime. :)
cubism...i don't know..you gotta really break away from details and break everything down to shapes. looks easy, but difficult if you're a lover of detail. haha.
I agree with the person talking about Dallas Green. I'd do something, but I'm always afraid to paint/draw my heroes because if it turns out crappy I feel like I've disrespected them. (Weird, it seems my day revolves around Dallas Green: I was listening to both City & Colour and Alexisonfire in art class today, I came home, bought a C&C t-shirt and now i'm thinking of buying those glasses. Where'd you get them?)
you know, the only way to get better is to keep on practicing. don't be afraid of your own creations. if you never try to paint your heroes, then how would you know if it turns out crappy? the best way is to go for it and make an attempt. and there are going to be mistakes, but you can always learn from them and improve because of mistakes. :)
my glasses? they are lense-less. XDD haha. they are just plastic sunglasses i took from my teacher and popped out the lens.
your video's are amazing.. i adore the music... i hope you do a contest ! i'd love to see a painting of Dallas Green! .. keep putting your heart into your passion it will pay off, your talented!

Er... that depends. What would a traditional/3D animator be?
I mostly just know basics in traditional art.
