I love to hear Donnie singing. It takes me back to the times we have spent together, The ceilidhs, the games the wedding, and even the recording sessions.
@Vinson37Me The Maxwells are a Lowland Family, not a Clan as such. Julie is from Uist, like myself. Ceilidh in the traditional Gaidhlig sense means a"visit" but in its English form it is used more of an organised entertainment event. Hogmany is not a Gaelic word.
I just listen to this track over and over... Donnie was just here in Colorado last month with "Men of Worth", but there was no way I could get down to the concert 200 miles away. Sigh... wish I could've been there to meet him again (met him once, eons ago, at the Longs Peak Games).
i just always like listening to my Donnie Large who was and still is my idol for the last 30 yrs!! could you find or has He got sung a song in english about the Iolaire
@katemacleod1 -- Idle curiosity -- why is he called that? ((Donnie 'Large', that is). Apparently it's an *old* nickname as his first album refers to it...but I've never gotten why.
@RKHageman Apparently he was called this at school because he had relatively large hands compared to other boys of his age. The picture on the cover of his first LP shows normally sized hands so I suppose the rest of his body caught up with them :-)
Thanks, Uistman. I'm also a non-fluent learner, but I was RKHageman's first Gaelic teacher, and I've just confirmed Donnie is saying "aig am Bliadhn' Ur" -- only with a nice strong Lewis accent, which made it difficult to distinguish for those of us not from Lewis (and not fluent).
"Bith mi tilleadh gu mo thir aig am Bliadhn' Uir" (I'll be returning to my (home)land at New Year time) .I have that other song, which was composed ny Norman MacLean who was born of Uist parents. I don't have him singning it though, just Art :-)
The song was composed by his mother and some of her songs were published in the Gaelic quarterly "Gairm" but I don't know if this was one of them. :-(
Just what you need when you are on the other side of the world, the memories come flooding in and you wonder why you ever left. Keep up the good work Uistman
I love Donnie and his voice. He's such a nice guy and I so much enjoy talking to him and hearing his accent. His singing is amazing and I could listen to it all day. Men of Worth is amazing!!!!
@McAndy89 In respect to its native tongue and English, I think that Scotland is happy to be a bi-lingual country like Scotland! We may not have S4C Digidol but check out BBC Alba. (Freesat 110)

Ok, right. Now that I *know* what that phrase should be, I can hear that it is. I suppose it's always that way with 'misheard' lyrics.
Love that grin at 1:25... I met him once years ago at the Longs Peak games, and he was just as charming then.

Say, has anyone the words to this? I'd love to sing along, but I can't hear all of what he's saying.
