All my animals have been rescued, including my African Grey Parrot <33 People don't realize how devestating their choice to not spay or neuter their pet can be.

Working with a high-kill Shelter, I have to go in and pick which animals are going to be saved and brought into the rescue, and leave knowing I have to leave the rest to die. Even if people can't adopt, there is always fostering.

I think that shelter animals know when they have been rescued and are the best pets you could have. I have one rescue and one I adopted after someone dumped him.

I think that they should not aloow that to happen, poor animals are still living things and its' wrong, and the least the can do is make it a painless death for them. Stupid people just killed a bunch of harmless dogs. Its almost like an another concentration cmp for dogs. Poor things.

I'm glad the shelter I worked at didn't use a gas chamber. That sounds absolutely horrible. I always hated how many animals had to be euthanized but I at least knew that it was done in the most painless, humane way possible. We have a free spay/neuter program going now and it has really helped decrease intake. But there are still thousands being euthanized. It's so depressing.

Just one thought...I worked in a shelter until we had to close. We ran out of money. We used adoption money for healthcare, food, food bowls, blankets, leashes, collars, cat litter, etc. We even helped with the local farmers who couldn't afford proper healthcare for their animals. Now there is nothing..our animals are now just strays..no help. You can blame backyard breeders and bad owners. Not shelters.

If they did that most of the animals would end up like that again. Where would they get the funds to fix, feed, or get animals needed medical care? If they were just given away they would end up back at eh shelter with more litter of kittens. If people can not afford adoption fees the how the hek are they gonna help the shelter get funds to fix the pers. It irresponisible pet owners who cause the death of innocent animals.

Shelters ask around 30 euros for adoption, just to cover some of the vaccine costs.

Buying a dog is around 600 euros.

People in shelters work for free. Even then, these shelters are buildings with costs, such as light, and water, and animal food (yes, animals have the bad habit of eating).

Would you still say it's the shelters fault? They do all they can to keep the animals in good conditions. It would be easier just to kill them all, like in pounds.

Please be responsible owner and spay or neuter your pet not doing so you are part of the big problem. These animals are dying because we humans are not doing our part, for that many to die on any one day is heartbreaking and unforgivable. I have five cats they are all fixed and my latest addition was a calico kitten brought home by my teenage daughter at thanksgiving she is one loved rescued cat. I have taken in a shelter dog too. Adopt from your local shelters and give these animals a chance.

Please don't blame shelters! They spend all their time trying to help the animals! I know the whole gas box thing is cruel, personally I think it should be illegal, but sometimes animals are abused so beyond help euthanization is the only option. Otherwise they'd be left to die on their own and THAT would be cruel. Shelters do all they can to help save animals, and without them....who would? No one.....I understand why you feel the way you do, but you must understand shelters help not hurt.

I agree with you. Some shelters use gassing for ending the lives of unfortunate pets but still, some use a more humane way of letting the animals go. Euthanization. Shelters are still shelters and they try to do all they can to get the animals adopted. Although some don't get to be in a home and have another owner who'll never abandon them again, at the very least, they had a roof over their heads. It is sad to see animals in shelters. When they could be playing with a child.

Great video. Some people really need to be told straight-up that irresponsible pet ownership hurts everybody.

An Oklahoma City news station did a special last year that showed how many animals that they city had to put down. It showed them being put down so people could see the effects of overpopulation.

Instead of patronizing breeders, people should patronize shelters. There are so many shelter animals that are in neeed of a good home.

Omg... the first picture.... *cries* I volunteer at a shelter that doesn't put them to sleep until it's humane to do so. They keep having rebuild. Over Christmas they brilliantly had a free adoption... Hundreds were adopted. Great idea huh? Made lots of room.

I don't know if it would do any good, but there needs to be laws passed about owning animals( mainly dogs and cats). You should only own an animal if its been spayed or neutured. You shouldn't be allowed to breed animals unless you have a breeders license and certified kennel. The licenses and certification should be pretty costly and demanding to stop the sorry breeders.

The only way we can pass these laws is if we ALL VOTE for people who will pass animal-friendly laws. Right now, the law says an animal is PROPERTY--just like a chair. So if you want to keep your chair outside on a chain in rain, snow, heat. . .that's fine. So, too, with a dog. We need legislation that recognizes that while animals aren't people, they are NOT PROPERTY! We have laws that protect the weak, sick, young, old among our species. We need special rules protecting nonhuman animals, too!

Amazing Video! So sad, but so so true. I have volunteered at my local animal shelter for 3-4 years. This video is sadly very very true. Spay/Neuter! It saves MILLIONS of lives. YOU CAN HELP.
