@24preacherboy The reason you don't use a plasma is because you want a nice clean edge so when you but the two peices up and weld them togeather you don't have any slagg or unevenus... Thanks Pete
Good stuff. thanks for taking the time to go slow and explain it to some of us begginners! I was noticing that you were making most of your cuts with an air cutter or a cutoff wheel. Is there some reason that you couldnt make the larger cuts with the plasma cutter? You can get pretty exact with them and use other tools to help keep lines straight, etc., not to mention time and noise...... Thanks again.
your show is amazing I've learned so much allready from you I'm in a rust battle rite now with a 1990 nissan 240sx I was thinking of just riveting some panels in because I can't afford to get it welded rite now would that work? Just wondering how much do you charge for a rust project like this one my car needs some rockers patched, the "frame" and wheel wells.
good stuff mate!.. just curious.. but i got a few rust holes underneath the panels and looks like on the underbody of the car.. but its on each side of the car.. would you recommend to cut it off and then weld a new piece of metal there to replace it or just cut into the rust as much as possible and then bog over so its ready to primer etc?
Im wondering if you had to replace th rocker on th truck you were doing im getting ready to start mine. your teaching skills are awesome. any info would be great Thanks jeff
Thanks for the video! I'm trying to do my own body work on my '72 Monte Carlo, and this was very helpfull. I've had it for 10 years and plan on keeping it forever, and I don't want to do a half-ass job
Actuallly I didnt' show it, but they have a spray, you purchase at your local welding supply store that you spray on the metal first, its kinda like metal prep in a spray can, thanks pete
I also flange when needed, but I would have BUTT-welded that entire piece - using Oxy-acetylene, not Mig. Then you could have hammer-finished it and used no bondo, maybe just a skiff of metal-fill.
But like Pete said, it's not a CONTOURS (I think he meant concours) restoration!
Used to do the flange repair in the 1990's and learned that in the midwest with humidity the repair would not survive. All butt welds here only now. Your skills are exceptional and you have a natural teaching ability. Very much enjoyed watching this series.

I am the proud new owner of a very rusty 65 Buick Wildcat convertible. Do you know a good place to buy replacement panels?

Why dont you use the plasma cutter on repair panels?
Seems like it would make short work out of those long cuts.
I use a straight edge and let the gun do the work.

@24preacherboy I have the same question. Maybe it's because the plasma cutter's heat would warp the delicate metal.

I hate rust, when overlapping the panels some bare metal is left behind the overlap, is it advisable to protect somehow?

if you were that good mate you wouldn't need to use so much body filler lol.
