  • haha you are such a troll Burt.

  • @Darkr12 a troll?

  • Well, as I listened I kept saying to myself "nothing is perfect!"

On balance your teaching work is valuable. American Independence depends upon 1) Common sense, and 2) common language, and clearly you are a proponent of both.

Be good. (Failing that, however, for any reason, be "good at it") :^) Rick '73 KB1UAJ

  • I think I will have nightmares tonight. Nude HAMS! Yuck!

    BV9CA

  • fine buisness on your age being 62 and you realy enjoy hiking and your mentaly retarded

  • @mike2ka I believe the word is spelled business, the word is spelled mentally. And you call me retarded!

  • Comment removed

  • @mike2ka If you did not think I was retarded why did you say so?

I do not bash ham radio I do knock the habits of many hams. I enjoy some aspects of the hobby, in every rotten barrel they are a few good apples. I did not have to work at all to get the extra, children can pass that test. My daughter became licensed at age 8

  • Comment removed

  • @mike2ka I have no passion for ham radio, it is a hobby not a life. I have a passion for helping children. No one says, "" good amatuer practice"

but they might say good amateur practice. Remember you were the one that said I was the one that is retarded.

  • Comment removed

  • @mike2ka I did not suggest I should be President of the ARRL, another ham made up the joke picture and sent it to me and I posted it. As I say to my students I hate the wortd sorry, because if I punched you in the nose and then said "sorrY", that would not fix it. Sorry is not doing it again, yet you continue to toss out insults after "sorry."

  • Comment removed

  • @mike2ka This was not an insult, " i dont know what your problem is anyway?"

Or this, " you are pretty full of yourself?" What exactly do you call it? You did SAY you were sorry for calling me retarded but proceeded to continue the name calling.

  • Comment removed

  • @mike2ka I cannot believe there is anyone this stupid. When you say I seem to be full of myself you somehow think that is not an insult? Saying I have a problem, that is somehow a kind thing to say? Even my 4th graders would realize what an insult is.

  • Comment removed

  • @mike2ka What an excuse for a man you are, you respond as my daughter did WHEN SHE WAS ELEVEN. You are proven wrong and will not admit it it. If you agree your have no more courage than Casper Milque Toast simply do not respond. I will take your lack of response as an admission of gross stupidity.

  • You are english. Only english men have this kind of humor :) They judge in a caustic humorous and ironic way :) I enjoy them :)

  • You lost all the respect you earned in the last hour by insulting the Tron guy. His outfit was epic.

  • Burt, on 9:45 there was an opening between you and the answering station but no opening between the caller and the answering station, not to mention tight filtering by the caller and slightly of frequency tuning by the answering station.

    WA1WLA

  • Ever heard of fox hunting? It's a ham radio sport :-P

  • Ya, Burt were all aware that most of todays so called Hams are only Showboaters that only got in to the hobby to try and impress everyone and make a name for them selfs , I hate to even admit that Im also a Ham with a Advanced Licence !

  • i give this a 5 9 hi hi .

  • So us your daughter.

  • @SubaruSale she actually lives closer to you than I

  • So what is you point, if you don,t like don,t do it. what is with the useless wining.

During the 1989 earthquake we used to save life's, i sure you you moth was going on and on.

  • @siquijorisland1 wining?, there was no game to win.

My "moth"? I do not own a moth

Who is the "we" YOU speak of?

  • @siquijorisland1 I can't understand a word you are saying. I have an 8-year-old that has better grammar and spelling than you. If you are going to talk down to others you should at least make it look like you have an education beyond 1st grade.

  • A sport is something you play? Is playing cards a sport? Is playing video games a sport? You don't get excersize playing those, I don't think most people would consider playing cards a sport. However, fishing is a sport and you don't get exercise fishing! Now I don't know if there is such a thing as radio "sport" but there are definetly ways of getting exercise while doing ham radio. You are just a very narrowminded individual!

  • @brontoab1 You don't get exercise fishing? The boat loads itself, carries itself out to the dock, hauling in a big fish is not exercise? Fishermen wait for their catch to hop in the boat? There a few ways of getting exercise in ham radio, most hams though sit on their butts cackeling.

  • @burt2481 Funny you would ask that question. I also enjoy fishing along with my new found hobby of amateur radio. I have yet to see a boat load itself, carry itself to the dock,etc,...nor have I seen a fish just jump in the boat. You DO get exercise fishing just loading and unloading the boat, walking up the launch ramp when you're done to go get the truck and load up to go home. You can indeed combine ham radio with exercise by walking and having your HT with you. I do it myself!

  • @KC9SYJ Where did I say you do not get exercise fishing?

Walking has nothing to with ham radio

  • @burt2481 I was referring to the response you gave brontoab1 in regards to the comment made about not getting exercise while fishing! In regards to ham radio and walking,...why couldn't you combine them? There are alot of small radios out there, such as Yaesu's FT817ND that you can carry with you hiking, walking, etc. As brontoab1 said,...you are a very narrow minded individual and I have to agree with them!

  • I like this one better than the other critical ham videos Burt (and like the radio / hike trip videos even better!). You got some valid points here. The bottom line I guess is: ham radio is about experimenting and personal contacts. Just act normal, don't try to make it more than it really is. I totally agree. Keep it up!

  • From my location I can hear a regular CW sked between two stations south of me down in California and Arizona. They have really long QSOs and pound out their words entirely. Its amazing, because they're using ham radio to have a human conversation and not to just tell each other they're 5 9 when they're really not. Keep coming with the videos Burt. :)

  • The codgety ol' bastard looks like Martin on Fraiser.

  • I have no idea what you are on about though I thoroughly enjoy it.

  • I assume your comments regarding Radio Sport are referring to the HF team version where they compete against each other in a HF contest like condition. I expect though you would also have some fine comments regarding the other totally opposite version of Radio Sport mainly contested on the 6'6" band.

The bait you are using is really pulling them in. Had a laugh reading some of the comments.

  • @vermontcreekbed Surely you are joking, "Radiosport", that term is an oxymoron. What is the "6'6" band.?"

  • @burt2481 Joking no! have you not participated in ARDF Amateur Radio Direction Finding. You obviously are just stirring me up. But, just in case have a look at "homingin" as for the 6"6" band I thought it would be easier for you to understand the imperial equivalent of the 2m band.

    Have fun! Cheers.

  • @vermontcreekbed When in Rome do as the Romans, I am not into Australia's terms.

  • @burt2481 Whilst in Rome one thing I would never do is pronounce the word "Soldering" as "soddering" I have read up on the history of the word and it seems that both pronunciations are correct but for both of us the other one sounds wrong. Also the pronunciation of the word "Mobile" I suppose we all have our differences. Must go have a contact on the 2'3"band waiting.

  • Burt, you have just received a high compliment from Conde61! Welcome to the brotherhood of the Redneck. Being from NE Alabama (Known as the land of "Aunt Mommy" and "Uncle Daddy") I am not only a southern born Redneck, but also one of the most dangerous Rednecks known to the free world, a Redneck with an education. Once again, welcome to the brotherhood my friend. I fear that poor Conde61 will never be able to join the brotherhood since it is obvious his IQ is too low to qualify as a Redneck.

  • is call sign is FKN- idiot i guess old age .. is catching up to him .. rather listen to my grandma fart than listen to this shit head crap hey burt I tell you what sell all your ham equip and buy yourself a dildo . yeah ,, with your asshole you wont need a SWR meter ,

  • is call sign is FKN- idiot i guess old age .. is catching up to him .. rather listen to my grandma fart than listen to this shit head crap

  • @Conde61 Tell your grandmother what you said, potty mouth

  • @burt2481

hey old man my grandma she is 91 she got more brains than you will ever have ,, fkn redneck

  • @Conde61 There is hardly a red neck in Massachusetts. Is there any other word you can use besides F-word? I guess you use that word because it is a wish you never were able to find someone to do the word with?

  • It's pointless to remind you of your articles (word 4 word of your vids & worse), if your mind is that far gone, where you mercilessly & endlessly insult everyone & their intelligence that ever used a cb, or ham who didn't fit YOUR standards. You'd deny it anyway since you cleverly \ cowardly didn't put your name on them. You've admitted in YOUR vids that MANY people don't like you & have threatened you. So, just continue with your posturing & innocent act if that makes you feel better. ; )

  • @TF856 The fact is you found no articles. You are just a weak mealy mouthed CBer with no guts. I NEVER submit anything anonymously LIKE YOU. YOu accuse me of ehat you are.

  • @TF856

i agree this guy is probably divoreced , kids want nothing to do with him so he gets his thrills on youtube .. anyways he is a waste of time .. makes no sense .. oh well ..

  • You should hear yourself. Hitler is a good example. The way you twist things around & exaggerate. Honestly, the only hams that complained about you are those who know who you are, but not every ham I ever talked to. And you've written some slanderous & hateful articles WITHOUT PUTTING YOUR NAME ON THEM TO. Your unique speech pattern gave you away. While you're slandering CB & HAM why don't you go ahead and slander certain Nationalities & Religions also. That's how how YOU come across.

  • @TF856 The way I twist things? Surely you jest. You are the one who is the king of exaggeration. You say all hams complain about me, so why are there compliments from hams posted here? What articles do you think I have written? I am proud to put my name to anything I write, unlike you who hides hides hides hides hides behind the keyboard. Why would I slander certain Nationalities & Religions, they have characteristics to be proud of, they do not laugh saying HI HI or say my name is Fred for ID

  • Congratulations you BIGOT. I've never seen anyone with so many HAM & CB ENEMIES. Every HAM I talk to complains about you. Your articles are BIGOTED CRAP. I'm for normal speech on air, but you slander cb'ers, & there are just as many licensed hams who freeband, use stupid phases, run illegal high power, have screaming cursing sessions on air & still use CB for fun, etc. AND SOME OF THEM HAVE NEVER BEEN ON CB. You're hurting HAM & CB by your slanderous bigotry. (QST articles, youtube & many more).

  • Congratulations you BIGOT. I've never seen anyone so well known with so many enemies on both ham & CB. Every ham I talk to complains about you. I've heard you & read your articles & I've never experienced such BIGOTED CRAP. I'm all for normal speaking on air, but you slander cb'ers when there are just as many licensed hams who freeband, run illegally high power, have screaming cursing sessions on air & still use CB for fun. You're hurting the ham image nore than you think.

  • @TF856 Me a bigot? You are the one who hides your big mouth behind a blocked channel. Are you afraid to stand up like a man? Every ham you talk to complains about me, you mean EVERY SINGLE ham? Not one exception? Not only are you an ass but a lying one at that. You have never experienced such BIGOTED CRAP? You mean I am worse than the KKK and Hitler? Again you lie. I do not hurt the ham image, just listen on the air they hurt their own image all by themselves.

  • You must live alone Burt? By the way there was nothing in those pictures to indicate they were hams. I guess we will just have to take your word for it!

  • @davetrek1962 I do live alone but as an elementary teacher I get hugs on a regular basis from wonderful children.

  • Wow, is this guy for real. He must be joking. I think he made this video just to be funny cause no one is that ignorant. Nothing he said made sense. LOL. I got a good laugh.

  • @kg6qbo Tell me me what I said that was not based on fact and did not make sense.

  • Comment removed

  • You seem fairly experienced as a ham; you should know that just because YOU can hear a person trying to make contact, doesn't mean that the person calling DX can hear the person trying to respond, this is pretty basic propagation fundamentals.

  • @69furball69 you should know that if you can hear a person trying to make contact, it is likely that the person calling DX can hear the person trying to respond, this is pretty basic propagation fundamentals.

    SIGNALS TRAVEL TWO WAYS.

  • @burt2481

My point was that just because YOU and the responder can HEAR the caller doesn't mean he can HEAR the responder. That's all I said, you can read whatever you want into it. There are several reasons why a caller may not be able to hear a responder.

  • @69furball69 Both stations were strong, signals travel BOTH ways. If you call CQ DX while in the USA and I hear you in the USA and you do not answer it means in all probability you were discriminating assuming I was not running QRP or a poor antenna.

  • Mountains of Kansas........hahaha - spilled my coffee Burt!

  • Here's one for ya Burt. (From the beginning) Go out and take the test for tech and general, buy an Icom 718, and a G5RV get on 20 meters, hear someone calling CQ DX CQ DX de KL7XX (a legitimate DX station presumably out of the country or in the country of Alaska... look it up on the new World Atlas), give your call 5 times because the "DX" station didn't get it and youll still be 59+. Can you tell me how this happens if he didnt hear my call why I am 59+?

    de W6CSA

  • Nevermind as I was sending my last comment you showed exactly what I was talking about on the video.

Maybe we could meet up on 20 meters one day and show people what a meaningful proper SSB contact with real information is about. I would love to record it and put it on youtube.

Unfortunately in the short two year time of me being a ham the only meaningful conversations I have ever had were on 2 meters.

    W6CSA

  • HA HA HA - his dark side, he is interested in contesting...ha ha ha

  • loved the smoaky bear comment. I laughed real hard. dude, you know us hams have stupid habits kind of like our in-laws and family members. you just gotta love em and except us for who we are.

  • If you hate "hams", why are you involved with ham radio?

It's not the kind of thing you just accidentally start doing.

  • @artifactingreality Where exactly did I say I hated hams?

I do not like some of their habits.

  • @burt2481 Well you didn't have anything nice to say about them in the 10 minutes I was watching this video lol. Well except for that one kid.

  • @artifactingreality Hate is a term I reserve for Hitler. So if I do not say nice things about you, I hate you? You did not say anything nice about me, so you hate me?

  • Hate, dislike, use whatever words you want. Fact is you painted a pretty grim picture of ham radio. And I don't dispute the things you said, I'm sure they're 100% true, my question is why would you involve yourself with it?

If it's only "some of their habits" that you don't like, which of their habits DO you like? Serious question.

  • @burt2481 grow up

  • @dithbmine1 What don't you like, hard to tell from your detailed comment.

  • @burt2481 We should meet one day Burt. I would be interested to see what it has been that makes you so cynical in your ageing years, maybe a fellow ham professed his everlasting carrier and then broke your oscillator.

But it begs one question-if you don't like the habits of hams why do you hang around. If it is only to stir you would be better off doing it on CB.

  • @imowtflol I would love to meet.

So if there is something you do not lke about your wife, rather than air out your concerns you leave her?

  • Comment removed

  • @eibeer So why you call me a name? You censor comments on your uploads but I have the courage not to censor.

  • god what whinger !! why do you carry on with Ham Radio if everyone pisses you off so much ,i guess we all know there are some tossers out there but live and let live ,maybe you're not actually perfect yourself ,no one likes a smart ass

  • @g4snu Actually the word is "whiner."

So I should quit being a ham because I do not like some aspects of it?

Maybe you should leave England or do you agree with all the policies?

  • Oveweight, gross, wifeless and girlfriendless, smelly old men and ham radio go together like peanut butter and jelly!! ;^D

  • Love the videos Burt! They're the best on the internet about ham radio; very funny, very truthful.

  • Roger on that bush over there. Hahaha! Your videos are very funny. Keep up the good work.

  • Lets talk about saggy old men that are so out of shape they need a training bra. Only an idiot thinks that DX only refers to stations outside the calling station's country. I have never known anyone that ignorant before, that thought it only meant another country. DX = Distance or Distant Station The silliest form of being a smart ass is to take everything literally. Burt, you can maybe hire someone to tell you what people really mean when they say things.

  • @kd5gua Me out of shape, yesterday I biked to two hours of volleyball the biked to softball field where I played 2 hours of softball, I weigh 182 up 4 pounds from 1980, and you?

DX is understood as being outside the country, CQ DX means in the USA no Americans.

  • @burt2481 Burt you are very active and youy look pretty fit to me! id say you and I are the minority of hams who all seem very out of shape and nasty.

  • Free banding rules, we do give accurate reports and have a conversation. You should leave ham radio and have some fun.

  • Lighten up everyone, Burt's entitiled to his views on the matter. I don't really worry too much about people expressing opinions on any thing really. I must say that I actually enjoy watching his videos.

In the end, Burt's OPINIONS shouldn't really effect your life, nor diminish your own enjoyment of same. So keep enjoying your hobby, and let Burt express his opinions.

  • After looking at this guy's video's it is apparent he talks trash about every other ham operator out there. But he and his daughter don't commit the foul sins he accuses ALL other hams of. Naturally he and his daughter are excluded from any of these atrocities.

    How convenient.

  • @greenrefrigerator I do not accuse all hams, just many

  • @burt2481 It's odd...I played this over again, and didn't hear any qualifiers like "a majority of..." or "many hams say..." or even "my research shows that a large percentage of hams". No, it's "hams, do they ever care about you?" or "hams, do they ever ask..." or that the"person who keeps talking to you even when you're no longer interested...that would be a ham, wouldn't it?" Where are the qualifiers to restrict it to "many"?

  • The funniest thing is that you are one of us.

  • @xe1dvi I am hardly one of "us."

  • @burt2481 that depends on which perspective you look at it....

  • @xe1dvi

This guy is just a complainer. He finds fault with everything everyone else does and only praises what he and his daughter does for ham radio. Nothing anyone else in the hobby does will ever be what he perceives to be the "right" way of doing things. I've never seen a grown man complain so much about every little thing other people do until now. I hope his *daughter* doesn't take after him because she will be the biggest bitch anyone's ever seen.

    That's MY complaint ......

  • @greenrefrigerator The fact that he is expressing his feelings about how he sees ham radio, does not give you the right to call his respectable daughter names. Im going to have to delete your comment. Thanks.

  • @xe1dvi

    Go for it.

If this guy wasn't such a loser by accusing everyone in the hobby he say's he loves so much then he wouldn't have so many people who having nothing good to say about him.

The fact is he's a complainer, plain and simple. And not about a few things, but EVERYTHING in the hobby. He's one of those miserable old men who finds fault with everything and everyone . . . but himself and his daughter of course. These two people seem to be the ONLY hams who have any smarts at all.

  • @xe1dvi

Respectable daughter, eh? And how do you know this? Do you know her? Didn't think so. So how do you know her father hasn't already brainwashed her into a witch with a capital B with all his complaining about everything and everyone?

    Answer once again: You Don't.

If you think she's respectable then that's okay. But this loser has pissed so many people off in his time that no one cares for him or his family.

By the way burt, nice little red shirt ya got on there bud.

  • nice video about ham radio

    73 de 9W2PJU

  • About the guy calling cq on cw, and not taking into account the other guy responding; well consider the propagation of skips, you might be able to hear both guys, but he might not be able to hear the other guy.

  • @trylleklovn If the responder heard the CQ, then there is propagation BOTH ways. The CQer was too lazy to work a weak station ir prefix not to his liking.

  • @burt2481 I'm sorry, Burt, but that's a little obtuse of you. If the calling station is running a KW and is distant, and the responding station is running 50w and is close to you, you might hear both, but the distant station might well not hear the responding station regardless of conditions. I know you find these things annoying, but there are alternate explanations for them besides "hams being stupid". By Occam's Razor, it's more reasonable to assume one ham being oversensitive.

  • @HerbBeamish I was 53 ten years ago, can you get anything right?

  • Comment removed

  • @HerbBeamish Where does it say that? Specifics

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • @HerbBeamish Let us see a picture of you. I weigh 180, same as in 1980, and you? Let us see your "real chicks?"

  • Comment removed

  • @HerbBeamish You feel sorry for me! You are a riot, you are the one hiding behind your keyboard.

  • instead of trying to be amusing maybe u should try and show the guy that is having trouble with his CW, how to study for it.

  • 8:30 - that's so true! Hams are shocked when I give them an honest 53!

Burt, can I assume you monitored 71.76MHz every sunday at 1955ELT for decades?

  • @1L6E6VHF 71.76MHz every sunday at 1955ELT ?

  • @burt2481 Your style reminds me of someone who could be heard on 71.76MHz in MA every week at that time (until last June). He had the last act on a show from the Columbia Broadcast System. Why did they call it Columbia, anyway? Its in New York, not Bogota...Have you ever noticed...........

  • @1L6E6VHF quit being cute, say who you mean

  • For a guy that makes a point of identifying himself as a ham, you spend a lot of time running the hobby down. Maybe you should experiment with a facet of the hobby you've never tried. That might give you something to do besides kvetching about a hobby you're either tired of or don't understand. LID.

  • @neo42 Tell me one thing I said that was not based on fact.

What does my You Tube opinion have to do with you calling me a "poor operator?"

I am not on the air with my opinion

  • He said nothing bad about the hobby, he only talks about how stupid many hams are.

  • If your being serious I apologize, but your humor of the obvious is hilarious.

  • @Pepsifx357 I am sadly serious but it is sad that it is humorous, but it is!

  • @burt2481 Sometimes it just takes a person like you to show everyone how stupid they're acting.

  • You should use your skills to build advanced RC flying surveillance machines. Then you can show us how its done. That would be very very cool.

You know what, Ham radio is a really fun hobby (for a few) or a really effective way to establish emergency communications. I don't get the point of this video. You are going to find freaks in every crowd. I bet the folks at the ARRL are just as uptight as you are.

Its a free country, so keep on talking and we'll keep on rockin' in the free world.

  • I feel parts of what you say are correct, however I think your perception of ham radio operators is quite biased. Dispite what you may have encountered, we are not all obese and cross dressers; most of us are decent enough folk if you give us a chance.

You seem eager to judge others and their errors, but forget the errors you make as a ham. Wouldn't it be more rewarding to help others be better operators, rather than rip them to pieces over minor operating errors, and poor choise of words? 73

  • What parts are NOT correct?

I never said all hams were anything.

I never said hams were indecent.

What errors have I made as a ham?

My comments are to help others become other hams to show them what they sound like.

  • @burt2481 at 7:42 the thing i think is wrong is you display what you refer to as "typical hams" I feel as you are refering to the majority of radio operators across the world when you say this, it could be interpreted as incorrect, as not all ham radio operators are like that...

I agree on the fake 5/9 report. but we all make mistakes.

also 3:02; Yes i often ask about the other operator im conversing with, i like to know details about their station, and their family so i can send regards.

  • @burt2481

also 0:46, name for the log, is it such a bad a request? Some hams naturaly ask for that that way, but both ways are ok...

1:04, Yeah they want to talk abroad, Why when there is telephone etc, becuase some people like the challenge of using radio equipement to talk to a station in another country.

2:06, I agree, that is strange.

2:43, I dont agree, the ham may have cared for conversation, but it seems you assume he doesnt care, by atering what he said.

  • @kaboooom2000uk One should ask for your name because they want to know, the log does not give a damn

When a ham has worked you twice or more he has to prove either his memory or his quick access to his log, but you too have a point

  • Why do you do it if you hate it?

  • Where did I say that?

  • awesome vid but a little long.

  • Hello Burt, "a thrill" is an intensely personal experience. As an example, I still get a great thrill from talking to someone in a far off land. Many times, due to language differences, the contact is superficial. However, occasionally, such as when a Japanese ham spoke to me at length about Japan, cherry blossom season, and his personal life, I took a part of his life away with me. In every activity, we get out of it what is important to us personally. I am still thrilled after many years. 73s.

  • You have cited an example of the best in ham radio. I worked a ham in Japan and later his family stayed in my home for 5 days, now that was an experience.

  • Hello Burt, It is a pity your daughter does not share the thrill that many hams derive from talking to someone by bouncing a signal off glowing plasma in space! Lets face it Burt, hams are special people, they love the technology of communications. If you have lost the thrill of ham radio, you should leave the hobby, for your own souls' sake. Being a destroyer is always easier than being a builder. Perhaps you should go to Britain, learn grammar, and then be even more pretentious!

  • Thrill? Surely you jest. By the time she was 10 she became totally bored with hams. Hams ARE NOT SPECIAL. They define boring. You need to see my video on the beauty in ham radio. I look at both sides. Can you give an example of a "thrill" in ham radio?

  • Hi Burt, love your videos. I like your shoot from the hip attitude and take no shit nonsence...

  • Comment removed

  • Dbag.

  • look in the mirror.

  • Boreing!

  • if you think this is boring, you need to listen to ham radio to see real boring.

  • Just being fair, If I have time to watch a video of someone hiking up a hill, I would go on a hike. :/

    Just saying...

  • I only listen but Ive also noticed people saying 599 when they have to ask many times to get the callsign, weird.

Also why do people say, "CQ 80 metres CQ on 80? Anyone who heard the call would know it was on 80?

  • @cyclonerotary Well, mostly to keep talking. That's the trick with calling cq, to keep talking long enough for even the slowest, most ham fisted ham (is that where the term comes from, all hams have fat hands?) to tune to the same frequency as you are transmitting on. SSB voice can be difficult to tune when listening for weak signal stations.

  • Well, I didn't know about any of that stuff. Sorry, my psychic powers are acting up.

I was just going off of your comments from the "ham radio frustration" video. Your comments regarding black hikers seemed out of place there.

  • You should not make charges of racism without facts.

The lack of black hikers was noted on my hike, which the video was also about. Not just ham radio.

  • Email I just received re: my commentary:

    Well, you had me rolling!

Wwhy can't hams just speak in plain English. I understand CW, as slow as it really is, using Q-codes, etc, but why ask me "QSL?" or "We seem to have some QRM..." instead of "We seem to have some interference."

And everybody is "5-9". No, they're not. Some are, most are not.

And some guys have no sense of humor.. you do.. we need to laugh at ourselves. The thing about your daughter, "Roger that roadkill..." Priceless.

  • What?

  • What? You do not understand the email a ham sent me that I quoted?

  • Sorry, I don't waste all my time on youtube. I guess I'm not familiar with the odd practices regarding quoting emails in a comment.

You made it look like you were talking to me.

  • I had said, "Email I just received re: my commentary:" Looks pretty clear to me that I was forwarding you an email.

If you do not "waste" your time on You Tube, you win the award for the most comments I have received from any one person

  • "any calls for the repeater" means "does anyone else need to use the repeater"

Since we are expected to share the repeaters, it's just a common courtesy.

As for the pictures of "Ham radio operators", that's just a low blow.

  • Now you're talking about something else. When you call a specific ham, you are expecting them to try to respond. If you call a certain ham while on HF, the same thing applies.

By stating "nothing heard", you express that you stayed on that frequency and if they responded, it was unsuccessful. It's just a reliable procedure.

As for the "first white child in ohio", I don't think you should be accusing others of racism. Go look at your "ham radio frustration" video. You, are a racist.

  • You think I am a racist! My elmer was Dan Carter, who was quite black. My best friend as a child was Leroy Davis, also black. I intergrated the Little League in my town and you did what?

  • When a station tries to respond to a call, they might not make it into the repeater. They might also not know that they didn't make it in. For this reason, it is considerate to let any possible responding stations know that you didn't hear them. (Hence, "Nothing Heard")

  • So if I call CQ on HF I should say nothing heard if I get no answer? Of course not, no answer in BOTH cases serves that purpose.

  • good one Bert! loved it!

  • Nude hams? Are you trying to test my sanity?

  • you are right!!

  • A special event station celebrating at a donut and coffee shop, now that's something a ham can celebrate! A coffee shop with a bunch of guys with walkie talkies (that's HT in ham jargon) on their belt. WOW, now that's ham radio! I'll take a ham on rye please.

  • old guy on the internet...this shit is classic.

  • Hammy Hamilton

  • I prefer Radio Amateur but alot of people think the word "amateur" implies that you're a beginer or not good .When it just means for the love of it. Hammy is just plain out aweful . Buzizzy knows the definition of hammy, I'll have to ask him It's not a good ,I know that.

  • I hate the term hammy
