Tubes are the ultimate show band... Live in BF Oshkosh Wisconsin (they were banned, literally, it was awesome!!). The completion backward Principle was when they tarted making serious music- reined- produced, erudite lyrics- esoteric melodies. It's like Zappa for the masses. (this is a high compliment)
@xyaqua I never thought about it (the Zappa comparison)like that. I agree. I saw them play once at Cal State Fullerton. After that performance they put a moratorium on concerts that lasted 3 years!!
@xyaqua Maybe 1976/7? I saw them every chance I got. probably 20 times at least. I saw them there again when they toured in support of Love Bomb. They broke up that night. After the show they were all visibly upset. I think you've done coined it dude. "Zappaesque" covers it really well. This song truly does have that "Zappa" feel to it.
PS - I've never understood why this brilliant song wasn't included on their greatest hits album. There are two or three silly songs on that album that don't come close this song!
Zappa's Tommy Mars synth-Horns is in there fo sure ... can't get eNuff of these guys // I'm 'dicted ...

Do you remember the year? Oshkosh was in 80 or 81, i think.
We need to coin a new term, like "Kafkaesque", how about "Zappaesque"?
The show was somewhat cheesey, but the ideas for the show really stood out!

Reminds me of some of Frank Zappa's best early work - but that also means that it isn't a musical taste that suits the average palate...
