Condidiot: Nasty business, sieges. They were an expensive gamble.

Having a well in the castle means theyve got water. You might not. Therere food, animals and gardens inside the castle walls. You had to carry your own food. They have all the comforts of home. YOU are in a tent. Bored, in the rain, heat, snow, cold. With friends who might go home and leave you alone. They have ammunition, trebuchets, etc, and maybe friends to creep up behind to relieve your boredom.

But you'd need awfully long ladders - beyond the moat wall is the (very high) castle wall itself.

The castle was heavily damaged by bombing in WWII and in April 1945 there was bitter fighting between US forces and the remnants of German SS troops holed up in tunnels beneath it.

I also have a bow at some points, you might have noticed. :) Different troops would have been armed in different ways, depending on the type of army and of course the time period.

In the video I go through defences from very different centuries - only the basic layout is more or less "original". I am trying to give an impression of the different problems presented by different obstacles in any castle.
