  • Punchdrunkatheist, I believe you are on to something there... :)

  • I dunno, sounds like to me once you reach the third gate you're not a soldier anymore, but an unstoppable, flaming zombie. That has to suck for the other people.

  • Nooo don't get raped by TV. You'll just become puppets for organized criminals. You're too awesome for that. You're in control here.

  • Condidiot: Nasty business, sieges. They were an expensive gamble.

Having a well in the castle means theyve got water. You might not. Therere food, animals and gardens inside the castle walls. You had to carry your own food. They have all the comforts of home. YOU are in a tent. Bored, in the rain, heat, snow, cold. With friends who might go home and leave you alone. They have ammunition, trebuchets, etc, and maybe friends to creep up behind to relieve your boredom.

    Hmm. Next plan? :)

  • mal was anderes

  • Here is the thing: They have all those men and stuff that you can start a siege. Wait them out.

  • What a fun way of relating facts/information/history of such a beautiful place. This reminded me of taking field trips in grade school, when it was fun and safe to do so by teachers who loved what they did. Good job, please make more.

  • very nice, i actually stumbled across it looking for a game of online castle defence, well worth watching :)

  • hahah well.. do you know a game called "STRONGHOLD" ?

  • Sure, played it, loved it, and actually Stronghold CRUSADER is the only game I ever actually PURCHASED - hi 5 on that !

  • Well done!

However... If i were storming this particular castle and saw the curving bridge and looked at my battering ram- I'd turn around and shout

GET THE LADDERS! and storm the walls directly.

Was this castle ever successfully taken?

  • :)

But you'd need awfully long ladders - beyond the moat wall is the (very high) castle wall itself.

The castle was heavily damaged by bombing in WWII and in April 1945 there was bitter fighting between US forces and the remnants of German SS troops holed up in tunnels beneath it.

  • @DannyAces cuz' nothing really says 'hit me with an arrow' like climbing really tall ladders with people dropping thing on my head, tipping the ladders, and yelling nasty taunts. If you managed to get a siege tower to roll across the moat, sure, go for it...

  • Nice job making history funny and entertaining! You should definitely make more of these.

  • so funny!!! no intention to do this more regularly?

  • Well, we do plan to, and (apart from the Christmas video here) we have some more uncut footage from the Caribbean - but it's always a question of time...

    Cheers

    Adam

  • Luke, take your light saber and use THE FORCE

  • this is epic

  • Thanks!

    Adam

  • I also have a bow at some points, you might have noticed. :) Different troops would have been armed in different ways, depending on the type of army and of course the time period.

In the video I go through defences from very different centuries - only the basic layout is more or less "original". I am trying to give an impression of the different problems presented by different obstacles in any castle.

    Cheers!

    Adam

  • Thanks was awesome! Medieval Tactics in Castle design seems to be your specialty:)

  • fun info most of the midieval castel defenses had a ansient greek or roman conterpart.

  • Goodness... no wonder this castle still stands. :)

  • having walked this way up the castle hundrets of times i never thought of all the little nasty things that would have stopped me if i was an attacking enemy.

what he denied you all was the beautiful view he has at the end of his fight.one of nurembergs most interesting places.

  • Fantastic work mate. The was great!!!!!

  • Brilliantly done!

Next time I'm back home in good old Nuremberg I'll make sure to take that way to get into the castle and impress my girlfriend with all my knowledge on the way... ;-)

  • brilliaNT

  • What a beautiful way of introducing the historical fighting of english men against the german Bowmen and Swordfighters.

    Thank you, Adam! :)

  • Erm, yes, thanks....?

  • Mah brudder wanna faht chew !

  • Fantastic! Next stop History Television. Oh and good thing I'm ambedextrus, I do fight left handed. You video was posted on an SCA website. We enjoyed it.

    Alphone de Lorrain

    Barony of Borealis

  • Absolute blinking classic. Maybe you could out Baldric Baldric, and do a series on the worst castles to attack in Europe?

Still chuckling down here in Lochac

  • Quite informative. It gives me the impression that people were smarter when it came to architecture back then.

Us poor Americans? We have a big white house with a gate. And the secret service. :)

  • You could have just starved the occupants out, but it would have made the video a bit longer than 5.48 minutes. :)

  • fun vid

  • Lesson to all aspiring castle siegers - learn to fight left handed.

  • That's a good point GiantRobert. When we attack castles in armour, the left handers have a critical tactical function!

    Cheers

    Adam

  • I really did get a giggle out of this. Thanks.

  • Those crafty Germans.

  • cool i liked it :D

  • some guys played too much medivil total war

  • lol

  • Nah, that dude fights for real. Why let some pixels do the job when you can get into armour yourself. Hi Aethstan! Google for SCA and Drachenwald and you will find out what it's all about.

    / Padraig

  • LOL

Aethstan is a peer and is (was?) the knight marshal of Drachenwald. I think he knows the SCA. ;o)

  • I know that, he's a friend of mine. My comment about SCA was a reply to someone suggesting that he had played to much MTW II. And yes, he is still the Earl marshal of Drachenwald (knight marshals are responsible for local groups).

    Cheers!

    / Padraig (from Nordmark)

  • *doh

    /Nadiana from Two Seas

  • Cool, awsome and all that :D

  • bloody brilliant

  • Next Problem

  • Erhmmmhhmmm do i need too make such noice's aswell?

  • Hehe, it was actually funny to watch, and quite an interesting architectural lesson.

  • Real stuff, Nista?

I'm confused - the castle is very real.

  • What the @@!$% does that have to do with my storming castles comment?

  • OUTSTANDING!!

  • thats a really funny history lesson^^

  • easiest way would be to use the front door =]

  • Awesome. I would have loved to be one of the onlookers that didn't see the camera while this was going on (and without the benefit of super speed)! ;)

  • He said third gate twice.

  • Why the hell did you post that eight times?

  • I am grateful for the fast forward during the action bits. It looks funny and somewhat reduces the awkwardness of watching grown man rampaging around the place like a hyperactive 6-year-old on a sugar rush.

  • Very funny and interesting at the same time!

  • Good work

  • Its strange castles even got successfully raided at those odds...

  • Usually, they didn't. The invading army would siege the castle and starve the defenders out.

  • Im sorry, i think you misread my comment. I said how DID they accomplish successfull raids at those odds

  • that was a hoot!!

  • That was cool.

  • Now I know what to do next time I attack a fortress...

    "Have fun storming the castle!"

  • You have to wonder what would've motivated people to go through all that.

Alot of foresight on the part of the castle designers.

  • Very good video. I like castles from the medieval age, when kings ruled Europe...

  • Hey Adam, that was great, I've been there. When I get another PC set up I'll post the pics on the AA.

By the way I go by AaronT on the archive, I'll post a relpy there too.

    Good job!

  • Why didn't he just buy a ticket?

  • this deserves to be on discovery channel

  • ADAM AND MARKUS SAY: Thanks to all who have posted comments! Keep it coming!

Yes, the castle is in oour hometown Nuremberg/Norimberg/Nürnberg in Bavaria.

We have our own site at squire-tv (dot) com, but it is just starting out. We are working on some more videos and we will post them there as soon as we get some other madness out of the way.

Adam, the presenter of this clip, is a trainer and comedian. You can learn more about him at thebusinesscomedian (dot) com

    Maaaaah!

    Adam & Markus :)

  • This is an excellent video!!! :o)

  • too cool

  • Damn, that was awsome. So brilliant. Does this guy have his own site or TV show?

  • he should teacha bout this stuff, i actually learned some stuff, and was keeping my attention haha!

  • haha, funny

  • i just realized something.. it would not have been fun to have a nuke during that time period in history.. if you detonate it. no one would know you made the attack. i mean at best people would say Merlin did it.

  • HAHA! "Eventually we break through" XD

  • The dynamics of a castles architecture. That invader had no chance. Very interesting explanation of it.

  • its realy cool

  • To be totally serious and stuff, that video was interesting from the angle of looking at castle design. I never knew they were THAT intensely defended, as in all those murderholes and burning straw stuff, good vid.

  • lol very nice see guns ruined fiting so nyeeee

  • this would be good on the discovery, or history channel.

  • That was excellent. If it does not get a full series on the BBC, then it is because they are mad.

  • great video i wish i could go back in time and use a bomb or something there well i would be using my bare hands (throwing the bomb/grenades) hmm it was good

  • AHHHHH

  • ditto to MuggleSam's comment. make more vids.

  • I hope you storm more castles. Are you going to storm more castles?

  • I love you!

  • That was great XD

man how murdered would you get if you had to storm that castle

  • pffttt...crazy! XD

  • Educational and funny. Wish you where one of my college instructors.

    God Bless

  • Is that the Norimberga castle?

  • Very educational, and a good laugh.

  • Man i want MY story lessions 2 b like THIS xD

  • Awesome video man, keep stuff like that coming, you have a really interesting way of teaching people =D
