@xXSkrillexLoveXx i've been to the safari park she goes to and they never let you play with animals usually, i think its because they're with a TV crew x
That poor child,I can understand the exercise that they give but she was clearly uncomfortable and was worried that she would not succeed at the challenge of eating outside of the facility. You could tell she was full. She's so mature because children are incredibly impressionable and she's around teenagers. It's understandable.
I despise the way that woman is talking to her. I know that she's 8 years old but she's not any 8 year old. I remember sitting with the counsellor at school, her talking to me that same way and thinking; "She must think that I'm stupid". I did just the same as this girl is doing, saying 'I don't know, I don't know' when I knew perfectly what was going on and what I was feeling. I didn't want to talk to someone about it that had such a condescending tone to their voice.
I am an adult victim of an eating disorder. There is a voice in our heads that tells us what we are allowed to do or what we MUST do. Overcoming that insistent voice takes years of therapy. It's a coping mechanism and it is indeed connected to OCD and perfectionism. We feel that we have no control over our lives and this is the one way we can gain some control. It may start out with just a thought, but the voice takes over and eventually leaves us little choice. It's an insidious disease.
I tell you about people mann you cant even comment without someone making rude comments back to you..i understand if you did say something really stupid but something that is so mild comparing to the other shit people write..its just sad tht they have no life and try to make one by attacking others to make themselves feel better...SMH could only be you..
The 8 year old, Dana, isn't wearing that much makeup, so you all need to stop. I also know someone in my family that is anorexic, I cry every time I see her. Her heart is failing, she also lives in Nebraska, and their hospital is sort of stupid. I don't get to see her a lot either, which makes me sad!!!! :(
@likeomgutube umm ok i commented thinking personally chocolate is nasty its was just me saying chocolate is nasty and i realized that she do not like chocolate either..i think that it is sooo good she is getting help she could eat anything for all i care once she is getting better (with chocolate being an exception) so your stupid comment was unnecessary..sorry oh and learn to ask questions before you make YOURSELF look like an ass
@mentalissues123 :3 awwww i hate anorexia how do you know if your about to have it cuse ive been feeling bad for eating and my hair is falling down :( i cry just thinking maybe im aout to have it :_(
If I didn't read the title of this video, I'd swear the 8 year old was 13 or 14! You're right, all that makeup is probably adding to her feelings of lose self-esteem.
honesty i think shes faking. who doesn't remember why they stop eating? and who just goes in there and eats everything when shes been starving herself for weeks. ?
I'm 29 years old and have been anorexic for 13 years. I wish that the U.S. had programs like the one at Rhodes Farm. I may have not been an adult anorexic. Hope every girl on here recovered. :)
From the ages of six until twelve, I weighed a total of 25kgs. I didn't know about anorexia, I just thought I was really skinny. When I began highschool I noticed I couldn't do things that other girls could do because my body was so frail. I made the choice to start eating more foods and now I am healthy and able to do things that I had never been able to do. it has been eight years :)
I believe that she probably asked one of the older girls in the clinic to do her makeup because it was a special occasion... & also, I think it was totally reasonable for her to not finish the cake. It was a huge portion, & whilst eating more food is the goal of treatment, the aim is ultimately to eat normal, responsible portions, not bingeing.
I am praying I am wrong, but it seems as though she is just eating to get out of the clinic. I have had anorexia 18 long years, and am currently havign a relapse, and one thing i know is if you aren't opening up about issues or getting things out, then they will keep reoccuring. And let me tell you, when I was 12 and went on my first diet I would never in a million years think I would be where I am now...30 and still struggling. I pray this little girl is doing better.
Why are people saying such terrible things about her parents? They seem like lovely people to me. They noticed she had a problem, they helped her get support for it, and they never once blamed her for not eating. They seem to love her to bits. People need to understand that anorexia can be exacerbated by family issues, but is not CAUSED by that. It is a mental disorder.
To be honest, I think this girl is just an overachiever to the extreme. I think there's a voice in her head telling her to be perfect at everything, and better than everyone. Before, she saw all the other kids eating "fun" food, and she felt she had to do better. Perhaps it gave her a sense of superiority. Now, in the treatment center, she again proves exemplary at the task at hand. I'm sure she goes to extremes with sports and school as well. It seems to me she just wants to be extraordinary.
@mentalissues123 i don't think that persons trying to be a jerk. they're just stating what they think, maybe its not necessarily anorexia, they seem to have a point. But very I'm sorry about your family member and i hope they get better.
@glambertsunite Agreed. She seems very intelligent and driven. It seems almost counter-intuitive to let her eat until she feels sick though. I think it would be better to learn healthy eating habits and to help her discover that she doesn't have to do everything to excess to feel ok with herself.
@glambertsunite Was I the only one to notice that she does not really relate to her dad? or he to her? She screams, "Mommy!" when her parents arrive, and then she's only shown interacting with her mom. We don't see dad give her a hug or a kiss... This can actually be the root cause of her problem. If she wants to be "perfect at everything" and "extraordinary," as you say, that's probably for her dad...
She needs to eat fun food to be normal? Maybe mom is a little too pushy and judgemental? If Dana really wanted to die when she was 8, something is going on. She knows why she thought that too. "I don't know." is what a kid says when they feel ashamed about the real answer. I hope she feels better and doesn't relapse.
Gus quit leaving comments about her wearing a ton of make up she is 8! whatever makes her feel good about her self and lets her recover, STAY STRONG DANA! I BELIVE IN U
@Skylynn53 I agree. If wearing makeup helps her recovery even a little, then she should wear it. I mean, it's not overdone to where she looks like a doll. It's very subtle and nice. I do hope she's recovered.
@ElectroBunneh134 I have to agree. For an 8 year old her vanity goes way past being thin. Her parents are raising a vain and appearance obsessed child. She cant buy all those clothes and make-up, its her parents.
I thought that it was kinda hurtful that the mom said that the weeks were just flying by. I'd be really upset if my mom came to visit me for the first time and said that.
I was 8 when i became anorexic. My mom was a nurse... And cheered me on. And still does today even when i told her i only eat 500 cals aday. and she knows i throw food up. But she won't even stop me.
she is such a beautiful girl, i really hope she gets better. no one at 8 should want to die. i really hope she can see how talented and beautiful she is.
while she was answering the questions, I had answered them ahead of time according to me, and when her answer turned out to be the same...I was so shocked....I can't even
My heart breaks for these girls. I've been there, not quite as bad as these girls, but am now recovered. But even though I am well now and have been for 5 years, there are still times when I am tempted not to eat and restrict when I am triggered by extreme stress.
I pray these sweet girls get well very, very soon.
I think Dana's parents show a lot of caring toward her! Her mother is clearly trying to be upbead for her daughter. I doubt things for Dana's mother are as easy as she makes it seem either. That is what parenting is about - putting aside your emotions to do what is best for your child. I think Dana's mother is a good mom!
Her mother and father showed almost no emotion when talking about Dana. It was like they were reciting the weather patterns of the past week. During her confession (2:30 onward) it seems like Dana is just giving the answers that the lady wants to hear as well. This runs way deeper that just image.
they should teach her not to lick her knife, but besides that she is a very beautiful girl who just wants to be happy, and i hope that she gets/got better :)
@DawnOfTheSmurfs In most treatment programs, regardless of whether you are pretending to be full or truly are, you MUST finish the meal. Whether you eat the solid food - or you ingest it in a liquid form. As Dana says earlier in the doc. and as I've experienced, even if you are so full that you become ill - you have to make up for that later (eat same amount again). It is, to say the least, brutal.
My question is why is that little 8 year old girl wearing tons of makeup? What caused her to start thinking about her image at such a young age? When I was 8 I never thought about being too fat, or needing makeup.
Her mother needs to stop asking her what she would like to do and use her initiative. Of course she would feel sick if she ate all that cake. Hell I would and I'm 25!
@luvbug222783 They have to replenish the calories that they have been starving themselves, because this is the last option, if they keep on the way they have been they will die
that supposedly they care about their self image.... well we the people don't look at them As attractive..... you need to have some booty and curves in your body
@usdeptofsmooth Males go through the very same thing but you see it mostly in emo/scene kids and wrestlers....The most common are wrestlers bc they have to be in a steady weight class to compete & they do unhealthy things do maintain their low body weight. But bc it is considered a normal thing, bc it deals with sports it goes unreported & unnoticed.
@tofugodess12 Wrestlers? Didn't know this. My older son is a wrestler in junior high and has been for several years. Good thing is that he's got a really quick metabolism like me and his father. In other words, he's always been skinny. If he were anorexic/bulemic, we would know, esp. myself. I am a very perceptive individual and pick up on BS a mile away. Also, one of my close friends was anorexic/bulemic for years. She didn't fool me until she finally confessed years later after overcoming it.
@usdeptofsmooth Males are affected too - but most victims of anorexia is females. Society tells females that every female MUST look like a model. There isn't the same 'requirements' for males.
@justice4girls66 because, she's perfectly fine, and suddenly around her 8th birthday she is having these thoughts and behaviors. It wouldn't supprise me if it happened to her and she doesn't kow how to express what happened because she's young, and it was traumatic, so she turned to anorexia because she doesn't know how else to deal.
but that's just a theory. it could be totally genetic. I'm not an expert, just a 16 year old who's had an eating disorder for years.
Im afraid she will be bulimic. She is only eating so she can leave, but the way she eats its not because she wants it, but because she "has to" i dont think that is the right way to cure them, they are kind of brainwashing them that they have to "finish the plate"
She is such a beautiful little girl...i am a nursing students and i have worked with a few anorexic girls and its horrible...it has changed my whole perspective..i didnt see how serious this problem was until i came face to face with it....we cant imagine how hard it is on these kids

it worries me that she said she stopped eating because she wanted to die.. when asked why she wanted to die she said she can't remember. it doesn't sound like she wanted to be thin or look different, it sounds like she had some trauma that she either wont talk about or has blocked and not eating was a response to that. i'm not a psychologist... but this story seems different than other anorexia stories I've heard.. and not just because she's 8...
Poor little girl. She's doing the absolute best that she can. What a darling thing. I really hope she's getting better. No one deserves to feel that way.

And it's like, why did YOU start? Name YOUR reason.

i don't think the fact that she (an 8 yo) wears excessive makeup helps her body image and self esteem issues.

It's weird how she runs and jumps to her mom, but doesn't even say hi to dad.
And it seems like the mom would be a better doctor than the actual doctor there.

What if she's eating a meal and she really DOES become full, but they won't let her leave it? D:
DawnOfTheSmurfs 1 month ago
@DawnOfTheSmurfs In most treatment programs, regardless of whether you are pretending to be full or truly are, you MUST finish the meal. Whether you eat the solid food - or you ingest it in a liquid form. As Dana says earlier in the doc. and as I've experienced, even if you are so full that you become ill - you have to make up for that later (eat same amount again). It is, to say the least, brutal.

@beturnerful damn that's harsh :( But I guess it's all part of the recovery.

It may not necessarily be that. I think she just agreed with whatever the psycholgist asked her so she could leave sooner.

My question is why is that little 8 year old girl wearing tons of makeup? What caused her to start thinking about her image at such a young age? When I was 8 I never thought about being too fat, or needing makeup.
AdvantageousAngie 1 month ago 3
Her mother needs to stop asking her what she would like to do and use her initiative. Of course she would feel sick if she ate all that cake. Hell I would and I'm 25!

Why does it happen to more females than males? Don't males go through the same types of afflictions?
usdeptofsmooth 2 months ago
@usdeptofsmooth Males go through the very same thing but you see it mostly in emo/scene kids and wrestlers....The most common are wrestlers bc they have to be in a steady weight class to compete & they do unhealthy things do maintain their low body weight. But bc it is considered a normal thing, bc it deals with sports it goes unreported & unnoticed.
tofugodess12 1 month ago
@tofugodess12 Wrestlers? Didn't know this. My older son is a wrestler in junior high and has been for several years. Good thing is that he's got a really quick metabolism like me and his father. In other words, he's always been skinny. If he were anorexic/bulemic, we would know, esp. myself. I am a very perceptive individual and pick up on BS a mile away. Also, one of my close friends was anorexic/bulemic for years. She didn't fool me until she finally confessed years later after overcoming it.
usdeptofsmooth 1 month ago
@usdeptofsmooth Males are affected too - but most victims of anorexia is females. Society tells females that every female MUST look like a model. There isn't the same 'requirements' for males.

@kittykat4161 dana or the blonde one?
marshwoodgirl123 1 month ago
@kittykat4161 why?
justice4girls66 1 month ago
@justice4girls66 because, she's perfectly fine, and suddenly around her 8th birthday she is having these thoughts and behaviors. It wouldn't supprise me if it happened to her and she doesn't kow how to express what happened because she's young, and it was traumatic, so she turned to anorexia because she doesn't know how else to deal.
but that's just a theory. it could be totally genetic. I'm not an expert, just a 16 year old who's had an eating disorder for years.

Im afraid she will be bulimic. She is only eating so she can leave, but the way she eats its not because she wants it, but because she "has to" i dont think that is the right way to cure them, they are kind of brainwashing them that they have to "finish the plate"

it worries me that she said she stopped eating because she wanted to die.. when asked why she wanted to die she said she can't remember. it doesn't sound like she wanted to be thin or look different, it sounds like she had some trauma that she either wont talk about or has blocked and not eating was a response to that. i'm not a psychologist... but this story seems different than other anorexia stories I've heard.. and not just because she's 8...

Why must dana be fed with unhealthy foods? Even if she's anorexic, training her to eat junk food is not the solution;eating healthy is!
