At 2:54, "The Iraqi, Soviet-made, anti-tank gunships...". How did Iraq get/have Soviet made weapons. Did they buy them from a third party or from the the soviets themselves? I know my government (USA) backed Saddam it just seems strange that the Russians may have made the same mistake.
@saxaphone1987 You really need a history lesson. Russia invaded the middle East, including Afghanistan. They pushed their forces all the way up to the front lines and had the Afghan people backed up into the mountains. After the Russians set up their outpost on the bottom of the mountains, the native people united and fought back, pushing through their front lines, overwhelming the Russian military and seizing their weapons. The Soviets retreated, leaving much of their armaments.
The Soviet Union sold weapons to many Arab countries. In the 1973 Middle East War the Egyptians used the Soviet AT-3 Sagger wire-guided missile against Israeli tanks and in the early stages of that war they were effective.
@saxaphone1987 The Soviets sold equipment to Iraq up until the war started. After that, "the United States assisted Iraq through a military aid program known as 'Bear Spares,' whereby the U.S. military made sure that spare parts and ammunition for Soviet or Soviet-style weaponry were available to countries which sought to reduce their dependence on the Soviets for defense needs." (Wikipedia)
@saxaphone1987 The soviets sold weapons to anyone that had the money.During the Soviet afghan was the US even bought arms off corrupt soviet officers to give to the mujaheddin. The middle east was Russians most profitable arms exports.Besides Israel pretty much all of the middle east has soviet supplied armies.

@mickeybee and when did the usa started supporting israel? In the seventies. By then israel had already built a good economy and a free society, and under constant attack. How much is the usa giving to pakistan by the way? Why are there no liberal democracies anywhere in the muslim world? Why don't you inform yourself and do some thinking before you start flooding youtube with utter nonsense?
@topperheartramada It's very formation was due to the UN. Every country that voted in favour of its creation had an interest to ensure that it did not fail, they chucked everything behind it, especially the British. From day one it had very strong trade partners, multiple foreign investors, a whole blueprint for it's development and military. Suggesting that the situation with Pakistan is a result of that nation being primarily Islamic is utterly facile.
@mickeybee ok, how about any other muslim country in the world? are you seriously going to argue that islam has nothing to do with the fact that there has never been a single muslim liberal democracy? or that there is a terrible record in terms of the violations of rights of women, gays, religious and other minorities? would you suggest that the slaughter of the copts in the new, 'free' egypt has nothing to do with islam?
Turkey, Albania and Azerbaidzan are for example democracies w/ major muslim population.. Being liberal is about person and his views, not religion. There are liberal muslims as well as liberal christian. Of course things you mention are related to fundamentalist religion, the fact that these happen does not give any right to generalise homophobia etc to every muslim in the world. I know open-minded gay muslims but that doesn't give the right to generalise that to every one..

Only by removing Islam from politics completely can any Muslim majority country achieve a semblance of liberty
@MattyJames25 ... No. Islam is different than other religions. Islam is a complete way of life. There is no seperation of religion & state in Islam. Muslims succeeded with Islam 7 Islam brought peace, love, beauty, knowledge, intellect, honour, dignity, righteousness, & obedience to God Almighty to this world.

"Islamic civilization introduced the sciences."
Quite wrong. Islam conquered Christian and Hindu lands and stole the knowledge about sciences, then ruined it. Islam has thus failed.

You're really reaching here... But say you excuse everything here- it's one. The exception doesn't prove the rule.
@emospadez "also not islam, but religion extremisim.. "
No, Islamic extremism is a major problem worldwide. Extremist Janism isn't; Extremist Buddhism isn't; Extremist Shintoism isn't... The Tibetans have suffered far worse than any Muslim group but they don't let themselves be consumed with hate and violence. Evangelical Christians can be annoying but they aren't blowing themselves up every time someone makes a Catholic joke... Localized Tamil or Jewish violence isn't equable.
@MattyJames25, Your point about Turkey is an important one. But it is not obvious to me that you could not have a Islamic democracy. What is the argument for democracy being totally incompatible (not just in tension) with an Islamic state. Try to set aside the issue of womens' rights etc. because, as US history shows, you can have a highly functioning, albeit imperfect, democracy prior to the institution of equal rights for all.
@etsneroj "What is the argument for democracy being totally incompatible...with an Islamic state."
The argument that the laws of an Islamic state would be largely bound by the inviolable Sharia. The very concept of a divinely ordained civil/penal code is antithetical to democracy (as the Constitutional Court of Turkey itself ruled in 1998).
Respectfully, I don’t think you can exclude the role of civil liberties from a discussion about synthesizing democratic ideals with an autocratic tradition
@MattyJames25, I'm not saying you're wrong; in fact, I suspect you might be right. But your argument is conclusory. We need to connect the dots. Why can't you have a functioning representative government with sharia as the foundation of the legal system? Also, I am not discounting the value of civil liberties. I am just saying, the US is proof that you can have a functioning representative democracy before equal rights are realized for women and minorities. Its ugly, but it is possible.
@etsneroj “Why can't you have a functioning representative government with sharia as the foundation of the legal system?”
Because it would not be just the foundation, it would also be the capstone. Sharia actually means “the path,” or “the way to the water” (showing its desert origins): it is a total prescription for society. You are of course right about US history, but in an Islamic context passing legislation to accommodate changing norms (altering Sharia) would discredit it.
@MattyJames25, You seem to give a reason at the end: that sharia is too inflexible to be compatible with legislation. Some muslim and non-muslim scholars believe that ijmā' (a term referring to the ability of the muslim community to build a consensus consistent with sharia) makes Islamic democracy possible. Most laws involve secular issues, but for those that don't, a clerical judiciary could apply sharia much like they do now, or like the rabbis did for the torah. Iraq may prove its possible.
@etsneroj Well certainly there is scope for some democratic mechanisms--Iran has some genuine representational aspects to its government. Yet Shiites are more prone to what we might recognize as secular because of their history. Iraq, as you say, might prove to codify some synthesis by virtue of al-Sistani's rejection of the Velayat-e Faqih. Yet worldwide, Shi'ism is viewed as heretical by the four schools of Sunni jurisprudence. And there is a no room to debate what is deemed haraam.
@MattyJames25 i think that ather applies to all religion. the west was incredibly despotic for hundreds of years under chistianity, its only after democracy was allowed to grow in the public consciousness did this level out into secularism. The middle east's countries are only 60 years old, as we know them. they have yet to settle
@MattyJames25 You're perfectly on point BUT it is worth pointing out that "numerous military coups" are based on the fact that the Turkish military is legally obligated to step in whenever the elected government is moving too far towards allowing Islam a public space in Turkish political discourse. Many Turks and every Turk I know support the military stepping in when the forces of brutal stupidity (Islam) step up
@Zdem0Z ... No. Your statements are obsurd. Islam clearly forbids such barbaric actions. Christianity might promote homosexuality, but Islam has a staunch opposition to this. Homosexuality and this vulgar and barbaric act are opposed fiercly in Islam.
.
There is no such thing as a liberal or fundamentalist Muslim. Muslims are Muslims and Islam is Islam. The distinction that Westerners make is not there. All Muslims are against homosexuality and such disgusting and evil perverse behavior.
@topperheartramada As for their being no 'liberal democracies' in the muslim world, this is the very reason that the Arab Spring happened! Up until recently, the whole USSR wasn't a 'liberal democracy' (and many parts still aren't properly). Was that due to them being largely Christian? It's very tempting and convenient to blame everything on one sect of people, either through race or religion - it's been done throughout history. But it's flawed, things just aren't that simple.
@mickeybee Yeah, in the new Egypt the majority of the population suportys the segregation of sexes and death penalty for apostasy. They aren't going anywhere. They are bound to be taken over by Islamists. Arab spring? My ass. There is no spring with Islam. Wait and see.
@topperheartramada I'm an educated, informed person, (I hope), but I've never come across any statistics, even of questionable source, which validate the claims you make. All of these 'mini-debates' tend to keep coming back to the same issue, a suspicion of Islam. And I would suggest, like most suspicions, this one hails from a simple lack of first hand experience, of contact, with the suspect, - Muslims.
The people who complain the loudest about Islam didn't even know what it was pre-2001.
@ARepublicanVictory As a non-US citizen, having seen your username, and then your last two comments, - Jesus Christ I f*cking hope the Republicans don't win. For the sake of the World, for the sake of evolution!!
Fortunately it's not looking likely.
Sorry if this is a little off topic, but I see it as being no more off topic than, 'U.S. military kicks ass' and 'ISLAM is trash'. At least it wasn't a pointless, uneducated one-liner!
amazing how islam has reduced what used to be the great civilizations in mesopotamia and in persia to a bunch of brainwashed monkeys. if i were an iraqu or ab iranian i would fucking hate isla. i would go to fucking saudi arabia and beat the shit out of those idiots for infecting my land with their primtive religion.
@topperheartramada very true, but Iraq and Iran do have oil, as Britain and US did stage a coup to establish the shah of Iran, and denied the Iranian elected president (who wasn't friendly with the British controlling their oil). In a way, this does stop progression in a nation such as Iran for example.
@topperheartramada Sorry, but did you just say, Israel did well on its own???? Do you have any idea of the billions provided by the UK and US since it's creation to keep it afloat? It's completely dependent on the US. If the UK and US had decided to throw their money, leadership and military expertise behind Iran for decades and not Israel, the Iranians would be doing just as 'well'. Though personally I don't see relying on handouts and U.S. military protection for your survival as doing 'well'.
Great documentary. Thanks for upload. I really like the narrative. Straight and to the point! Good footage too. Does anyone know any other documentaries from same series (same narrator perhaps)?
@ahmed337799 First of all - your father tool. Second of all, I don't give much of a damn about any of the countries involved so it can be propaganda either way - I just don't care ;)
If you think you can fuck with Iran, It's free of try, we won't charge you but we will eat you as lunch, we are readyyy, any time you can come to Iran and you will see what's gonna happen, but i'm saying to you soldier's of America, England and Israel, listen carefully make sure you say Godbye to all your families, friends, wife/husbend, kids, and any body else , you kno why? It's very simple coz you not gonna go back to your countryyyy and you won't see the members of your family again !!!!!!!!
@irranger But you were already whipped just sshhh i see you have patriotism for your country good just don't spread your propaganda on an american kick ass video
no any fucking country can fuck with iran ( persia ). we been fighting with 6 countries, not only Iraq, in that time America, France, England, Germany and Israel, was helping and supporting Iraq to attach Iran, but at the end they fucked up. We have shown our power to the world by 8 years war with 6 or 7 countries, one country infront of 6 countries. As i told you , no country can fuck with Persia (Iran), Iran is most power full country in the world, but America, England, israel,
@irranger Dude, believe it or not, the only 2 countries that ONLY supported Iran in this war was North Korea and Israel. Israel did not support Saddam Hussein. Google it.
@lukethebunny watch this clip (Saddam Hussein - The Trial you will never see) and u will find who was at the back of this king, and what was the moto of this war,
@lukethebunny oh really, than why u people blame entire Muslims nations over a single bomb blast, these are not regional fights but this continuity of crusade wars, Christians want superiority in world but Muslims are not ready for it, Jews try for same but not capable,,, so always Muslims and Christians are fighting, because Muslims are the only hurdle in way of Christians, so do not say about USA, this is Muslims and Christians war, just like past Crusade wars,
"Expansionist adventure"? Who are you kidding? Iraq's drive was to stop Iran's fundamentalist idea spreading. Green light by NATO and funded by Saudi and Gulf States. And left Iraq poor with a HUGE debt after the war. While Kuwait, like a true Machiavellian fashion siphoning oil off Iraqi territory. And then The US enter. Bin Laden got even crazier formed Al Qaeda.
@PERSIAisHISTORY Who care little tiny nations hate the US because we kick ass all over the world throught history , yea we police the world no1 else is diong it and stupid dictators and communist keep diong this shit ^(chemical warfare , inhumane acts) so we fight for the people not because we are hated so fuck of you communist puke or the world , kill yourself so we wont have to
@PERSIAisHISTORY You have nothing to say vs the us army HA HA HA go cry about the message i sent if you didnt already USA MOTHER FUCKA HOORAAAH!!!!!!!!
@69sakibkhan moslums have NO brothers only ENEMIES. islum is a paganistic cult of death and murder and has always been spread by the sword of hate since muhamad the devil possessed madman forced it upon the world in the 7th century. the demon alah poisoned his mind and he spread this poison to the rest of the world by MURDERING people. that is the TRUTH and the so called "peace" of islum. INTOLERANCE toward differences of thought points of view. islum is EVIL!
no one long live, Christians first weaken them and than attack over iraq now over iran, so this was basically chritians policy to finish mulsims,,, no oil no local conflicts, they just promote their pupets to make a fight between two countries, they sold weapons to both and when both becomes weak, than now they fishing them one by one
US attitudes towards Iran now and in the past is truly disgraceful and cowardly. We were the ones who supplied Iraq with chemical weapons that were used against Iran, and we were the ones who shot down a plane full of Iranian civilians after a warship had been attacked because we thought we could just waltz into a combat zone and do whatever we wanted. Of course, after Iran beat the Iraqi army at full strength, we swoop in after the weak Iraqi Army. No wonder they want nukes...
if Iran didn't defend itself against the Iraqi menace, they would be learning arabic in the iranian schools and the iraqi government would ruin the iranian way of life.
Man, how does jihad, from what I'm gathering is attrition-based combat, mesh with Sun Tzu's 13 principles?

Respectfully, I don’t think you can exclude the role of civil liberties from a discussion about synthesizing democratic ideals with an autocratic tradition
MattyJames25 5 days ago
@MattyJames25, I'm not saying you're wrong; in fact, I suspect you might be right. But your argument is conclusory. We need to connect the dots. Why can't you have a functioning representative government with sharia as the foundation of the legal system? Also, I am not discounting the value of civil liberties. I am just saying, the US is proof that you can have a functioning representative democracy before equal rights are realized for women and minorities. Its ugly, but it is possible.
etsneroj 5 days ago
@etsneroj “Why can't you have a functioning representative government with sharia as the foundation of the legal system?”
Because it would not be just the foundation, it would also be the capstone. Sharia actually means “the path,” or “the way to the water” (showing its desert origins): it is a total prescription for society. You are of course right about US history, but in an Islamic context passing legislation to accommodate changing norms (altering Sharia) would discredit it.
MattyJames25 5 days ago
@MattyJames25, You seem to give a reason at the end: that sharia is too inflexible to be compatible with legislation. Some muslim and non-muslim scholars believe that ijmā' (a term referring to the ability of the muslim community to build a consensus consistent with sharia) makes Islamic democracy possible. Most laws involve secular issues, but for those that don't, a clerical judiciary could apply sharia much like they do now, or like the rabbis did for the torah. Iraq may prove its possible.
etsneroj 5 days ago
@etsneroj Well certainly there is scope for some democratic mechanisms--Iran has some genuine representational aspects to its government. Yet Shiites are more prone to what we might recognize as secular because of their history. Iraq, as you say, might prove to codify some synthesis by virtue of al-Sistani's rejection of the Velayat-e Faqih. Yet worldwide, Shi'ism is viewed as heretical by the four schools of Sunni jurisprudence. And there is a no room to debate what is deemed haraam.
MattyJames25 4 days ago
@MattyJames25 i think that ather applies to all religion. the west was incredibly despotic for hundreds of years under chistianity, its only after democracy was allowed to grow in the public consciousness did this level out into secularism. The middle east's countries are only 60 years old, as we know them. they have yet to settle
Ponishead 3 days ago
@MattyJames25 You're perfectly on point BUT it is worth pointing out that "numerous military coups" are based on the fact that the Turkish military is legally obligated to step in whenever the elected government is moving too far towards allowing Islam a public space in Turkish political discourse. Many Turks and every Turk I know support the military stepping in when the forces of brutal stupidity (Islam) step up
iancmcintyre 3 hours ago
@Zdem0Z ...
All Muslims are against homosexuality and such disgusting and evil perverse behavior.
xtremeownage2 1 week ago
@topperheartramada As for their being no 'liberal democracies' in the muslim world, this is the very reason that the Arab Spring happened! Up until recently, the whole USSR wasn't a 'liberal democracy' (and many parts still aren't properly). Was that due to them being largely Christian? It's very tempting and convenient to blame everything on one sect of people, either through race or religion - it's been done throughout history. But it's flawed, things just aren't that simple.
mickeybee 1 month ago
@mickeybee Yeah, in the new Egypt the majority of the population suportys the segregation of sexes and death penalty for apostasy. They aren't going anywhere. They are bound to be taken over by Islamists. Arab spring? My ass. There is no spring with Islam. Wait and see.
topperheartramada 1 month ago
@topperheartramada I'm an educated, informed person, (I hope), but I've never come across any statistics, even of questionable source, which validate the claims you make. All of these 'mini-debates' tend to keep coming back to the same issue, a suspicion of Islam. And I would suggest, like most suspicions, this one hails from a simple lack of first hand experience, of contact, with the suspect, - Muslims.
The people who complain the loudest about Islam didn't even know what it was pre-2001.

@topperheartramada it was colonialism that messed up these countries. same with propping up pro US dictators for oil. brought them years behind.
constabret 1 month ago
@constabret sure. somehow these muslim countries always ger impaired by 'colonialism'. israel did well on its own, without oil and with constant war.
topperheartramada 1 month ago
@topperheartramada very true, but Iraq and Iran do have oil, as Britain and US did stage a coup to establish the shah of Iran, and denied the Iranian elected president (who wasn't friendly with the British controlling their oil). In a way, this does stop progression in a nation such as Iran for example.
constabret 1 month ago
@topperheartramada Sorry, but did you just say, Israel did well on its own???? Do you have any idea of the billions provided by the UK and US since it's creation to keep it afloat? It's completely dependent on the US. If the UK and US had decided to throw their money, leadership and military expertise behind Iran for decades and not Israel, the Iranians would be doing just as 'well'. Though personally I don't see relying on handouts and U.S. military protection for your survival as doing 'well'.

We have shown our power to the world by 8 years war with 6 or 7 countries, one country infront of 6 countries. As i told you , no country can fuck with Persia (Iran), Iran is most power full country in the world, but America, England, israel,

WarDogTheAwesome 3 months ago
@lukethebunny oh really, than why u people blame entire Muslims nations over a single bomb blast, these are not regional fights but this continuity of crusade wars, Christians want superiority in world but Muslims are not ready for it, Jews try for same but not capable,,, so always Muslims and Christians are fighting, because Muslims are the only hurdle in way of Christians, so do not say about USA, this is Muslims and Christians war, just like past Crusade wars,
BezoLinks 4 months ago
"Expansionist adventure"? Who are you kidding? Iraq's drive was to stop Iran's fundamentalist idea spreading. Green light by NATO and funded by Saudi and Gulf States. And left Iraq poor with a HUGE debt after the war. While Kuwait, like a true Machiavellian fashion siphoning oil off Iraqi territory. And then The US enter. Bin Laden got even crazier formed Al Qaeda.

no one long live, Christians first weaken them and than attack over iraq now over iran, so this was basically chritians policy to finish mulsims,,, no oil no local conflicts, they just promote their pupets to make a fight between two countries, they sold weapons to both and when both becomes weak, than now they fishing them one by one
BezoLinks 7 months ago
@BezoLinks
