I have an extremely wierd cherry tree in my front yard. One side blooms earlier than the other and each side has different color blooms. also, one side produces fruit while the other doesnt. I think it was grafted, but im new to this whole grafting thing so I dont know for sure.

Wow this is excellent....I use black plastic electrical tape and wrap it after i use pruning wax to seal the graft.

in order to graft the rootstock and scion need to be closely related in most circumstances .peach plums nectarines apricots almonds are all in the same family (roseceae),are closely related, and can be grafted to one another. this is very common practice but you cant graft a plum to a orange(rutaceae)it just wont work.a orange tree can be grafted to a grapefruit because of the close relation
