The IBA did lay down that ATV, which had actually won the franchise, should be committed to changing their name to Central in order to reflect the regional franchise area more fully, sell the Elstree studios to the BBC, relocate their second studio in Nottingham to serve the East Midlands area and also put half their shares on the open market. In about 1985, there were also plans to introduce a third regional; studio centre in Oxford which later on housed one of the Right to Reply Video Boxes.
I wansnt happy loosing Pipkins. On Central's first day remember being disgusted with Lets Pretend aerfh. I thought tho ATV was just rebranded Central due to parliaments splitting the region in two ?
Talk about contradicting yourself, you said it would be the last time the ATV chimes would be said and then later you say we'll still see it before new ATV programmes on Central in 1982, how confusing!!!
Even that opening comment on the ATV chimes is wrong, the ATV logo was still seen before Schools programmes up until about 1984 I believe. Your trade test tapes are certainly interesting though but I don't get the point of this.
Now you could do one BSB Galaxy farewell announcement, one BSB Now farewell announcement, one BSB Sports Channel farewell announcement, one BSB Power Station farewell announcement, and you could try a pitch for an ITV Westcountry farewell announcement, if you want to try that out.
Nineteen sixty-eight!!!!! It was 1968 that the franchise changes took place and ATV became midlands-only 7 days.
This was also when the Friday 19.00 weekend handover started to take place. Before then ATV would have broadcast all day Friday, they never "handed over" in teh style Thames did with LWT.
Oh, and the BBC national anthem's not a patch on the weird organ rendition that ATV used to use :)
Actually, I did read somewhere that an arrangement had been put into place as far back as the 1966 franchise round that the weekend arrangements in London would change from Saturday and Sunday to from 7pm Friday to closedown on Sunday (later extended to Monday 6am). Hope that helps explain things.
Yeah, that would explain it.. :) the plans would have been drawn up then, to take effect from the start of the new franchises, which in London's case would have been late July'68.
Oh, brother! Another depressing mock-up! It's an insult!

Yes, everyone in Solihull will be fascinated to learn that the Thames-LWT handover is moving to 5.15.

Clever alteration, but fake never-the-less, the real handover is elsewhere. Interesting though, who did the voice over?

That would be CWilliams himself.
