@moneystacks420 Thanks.. I ended up popping off the straight pin completely, leaving only the threaded one, then just twisting that onto the camera. Seems to work. -_-
Hey, havok i need your help! somehow i cant achieve the same motion as you do mine wobbles sooo much that iam unable to use it... what might be the reason of this? what should i do about it? it doesnt behave as yours in the video u made with it :/
@aubie0071971 nope, i couldn't do that. I tried both more weights and almost no weights. Everybody talks about drop-time. But i don't know what it is and how to adjust it.
Drop time refers to the time it takes to come to vertical if you hold the handle upright and turn the camera and flycam basically on it's side. When you let go, it should take just about 2 seconds (or just slightly more) for the weight to come down and bring the unit vertical. You can also make fine adjustments to the weight by raising or lowering the weight arm on the frame. You may find you already had the right weight, but in the wrong position. Hope this helps.
@groundhog3d yeah its the time or the speed the camera moves in the position. Its heavy for me to explain it in english. Try to imagine that the u-flykam is a 3D - seesaw. In each "other side" of your camera - the weight must be exactly (little little little bit more) like your kamera (newtons law) search wikipedia: Lever
@havok2 Hi! I have been trying for 2 hours to try to copy you and put this together. I have Canon 600d, so it is almost identical to yours. I didn't see you put any actual weights on the device, just the weight holder. Does it need weights? AHHH this is so confusing!!
@Retrowinter yes there is only two scews and 3 plastic parts - no extra metal weight. This works only with Camera + Lens ~ 1000g / 1kg. Otherwhise you had to use my fix (I can highly recommend it) shown in my channel with fotos - it's simple. Buy a cullman plate made of alu and mount it with 4 screws. So the camera is higher and so its weight "is more" - U flycam itself is to weight on the buttom for leightweight cameras under 1kg so it will swing like a boat. =)
@Retrowinter i just got my u-flycam and i have a 600d, have u been able to balance it on the flycam. i am having trouble and wondered if u could offer any help

Hi. I had bought a u-fly cam and i try to stabilize my camera with the help of your tutorial, but i only stabilize the camera in one direction ( if i move the camera to left or right the camera turn crazy xD). Could you give me any advice to try stabilize my camera? i think i never get the result that you got.
@nagashbass Hey its all about physics. Try and try and try but keep the physics in Mind so you will get a fast result. Are U from german? I am from german ^^ so my english isn't better I think.
Can someone PLEASE post some pictures of different set-ups\balancing. I have a Canon Rebel t2i (550d) with the Canon standard 18-55MM EFS, and I cant balance it similar to the video to save my life. I keep getting side to side bobbing, and a little bobbing forward and backwards. Any advice?
@jbowdach Same problem here, I've tried many different setups and I'm not even close of getting stabilized. On side movements it's even worse, it's like a crazy fast pendulum with no control at all.
@jbowdach Hours later, I made it man. Don't use any weights, not even the weightholder. Set up the camera plate at the most behind spot the holder can reach and level the horizontal line by pulling back the little vertical arm. Got it?
@RaphaGiraldez Thanks a lot for the advice! This thing has been a huge pain learning, but that def helps. To confirm, you took both of the "horizontal" weigh holders off and it balanced properly?? Sounds strange but awesome if it works well. Would you mind explaining the "level the horizontal line" part in a bit more detail? Thanks a lot for your help :)
@spinout113 I used this video as a guide. He is using heavir lens, so i tought... I'll take the weight holder off, but that made the camera point down, cuz there is less weight on the bottom, So i assembled just like him but I took the vertical little arm a little bit more inside, making it the long arm that is set horrizontaly shorter and by that making stable. I measured the center of gravity with a pencil and it was pure crap so I pulled back as much as possible and the sidetunning (continue)
@spinout113 of the camera plate was essential to put a end to the pendulum effect. I'm not saying that measuring with the pencil is pure crap, but for me the results were pure crap. But it's reeeeally a fine tunning when ur using a light camera like a t2i with 18-55. so be patient and take it slow. I'm my case I'm using the t3i, so when i pop open the lcd screen to reach other angles it makes the stabilizer go off, so i have to adjust. I'm telling so u can see how sensitive is the equilibrium.
@RaphaGiraldez this is exactly the set-up I am using for the u-flycam. Were you able to get it balanced? What weight setup did you use? Thanks!, ~aubie
@aubie0071971 I see lots of people doing like the video, but for me it was easier the way i described, but anyway, both of them should work if you do properly. Patient is the key, with such a light camera, any overweight should get u far away from stability.
Thanks for the reply, I will try using little weights this time, I notice you have none on your video only the plastic, I had all the weights on it lol. I tried last night dropping to the one big weight but it still bobs like a boat.
great video, actually was the one that made me go to buy this, I got it today, opened your video and for the life of me cant get my (very heavy) 5d with grip and 17-40 L lens to stop bobbing like a boat. Any tips? I've used all the weights? Its so rocky.
@thedesignboy Dont use as much as you can! You need only a little bit more on the button than on the cameras site =) Think about a Playground and a seesaw. A fat guy sit on the left side near the axis then you need only a leightweigth guy on the rightside far away from the axis. To much fat guys on the buttoms of the flycam creates a pendulum xD
@havok2 thanks man, been trying a few weeks now, its cracking me up! what are you doing with it when you balance it in your video? You seem to get it to slowly settle from a horizontal to vertical. How would you weight a 5d with a wide lens on the bottom?

I tried to do exactly this with my 550d + 18-55 kit lens but I couldn't get it smooth at all for some reason, when I did step 7 its super fast and not slow and smooth like yours :(
@xXSkyllbergXx My config is usefull with the Canon 500D and the Tamron Lense. The Tamron is much heavier than the little kit lense. So the bottom is to heavy in your config. This results in fast movement and swinging. I recommend at least a weight of 1kg for the camerasetup. With a lighter setup it is nearly impossible with this U-Flycam to get a steady result.
1. Reduce the weight of the bottom cut the pipe (step 2/3 is better!)
@xXSkyllbergXx I gonna make some pics of what I did for my 550D + 18-55 and yes, it goes like a charm, very smooth, but I had to do some tweaks! Wait and I'll post pics in a few hours

Thank you SO MUCH for making this video. I saw your test and bought a U Flycam for my 550D with the certain that this would help me. io l'ho malaguratamente comprata per la mia canon 5d, lo snodo è pessimo autocostruito e dai movimenti molto limitati, costa poco , vale pochissimo, la sconsiglio.
@milleaccendini It's a timeconsumpting prozess to get a steady system. I needed at least a week for one setup. The 5D is a "fat boy" and I think this is the biggest problem at all. The center of gravity is to much in the front on the U-Flycam. But this product is better than everything else there. An example can be found on one of my latest musicvideo: youtube.com/watch?v=51DzZDpABn8 Watch after 1:12 ;-)
Your video here saved me countless hours of guessing and bad results. Thank you so much for taking the time to share the setup for this camera! Immediately after configuring it according to your video, I got super smooth footage from my T2i (550D), even running across the house, with no practice. Works great, thanks to you :)
Hey I bought the U-Flycam for my Canon HV30. I set-up your system, however I didn't have the same results as your DSLR. Is it because my camera is lighter? What can I do?
@SelcouthFilm Hey your Canon HV30 weight 243g. My 550D+Lens is 1048g. You need at least ~ 850g I think. Recommend 1kg. You had to put some weights on the top. Be creative ;)
@hochschieber Kein Ding =) Btw.
Best video for the u-flycam so far! A lot of people complain that its not that good, but obviously if you spend some time and set it up like you have then its not that far off the results of the more expensive ones. cheers for the guide!
How do you compensate for a battery grip? My grip makes the camera sway side to side. I understand and can make the camera balance forward and backward, but there is still side to side movement that can make you feel seasick while watching. Plus, how do you film tilting toward the ground or up toward the sky? The gimble makes everything stay parallel to the ground.
@tracyadamsphotograph When it is balanced out there is no side to side movement. I have balanced it successfully with the tamron, the rode stereomic, Zoom H1 and the MK2 filter with adapter. No side to side movement but it was very heavy. When you have s2s movement try to reduce the weights. The buttom had to be only a little bit heavier then the top. Wich camera etc did you use? Perhabs I can calculate it ^^ When my Camcorder is back I made a nother tutorial.
Hey Mate! Great vid, I got hte U fly ccam, but i can't do that, I don't even try with the 50mm 1.8 because its to light weigth would you be so kind to tell me, with the standar 18-55 mm should i add any weight bar, or do you think I can balance it the way you did, mine turns around a lot, I bought a quick release but it doesnt fits, too bad. Any way I ill really aprecieate your answer, by the way beutiful footage test with U fly cam on your other vid
@alexpatton357 The Tamron 17-50mm is 212g heavier than your's and I think I uses the minimum configuration for my setup. You had to add some weights on the top, a flash or mic. I mounted the quickreleaseplate with 4 screws and some wood on the top of the plate from the u-flycam. youtube.com/watch?v=aIZvDviRIPM - Hope I could help ;)
I think I had to build smaller weights for better ballancing with different lenses etc. This shows how it must look in the end. I hope I will help the U-Flycamowners :D I see so many waving videos - this was the reason why I have made it.
i have a canon 600d,can anybody help me get it balanced on this steadicam???

@milleaccendini It's a timeconsumpting prozess to get a steady system. I needed at least a week for one setup. The 5D is a "fat boy" and I think this is the biggest problem at all. The center of gravity is to much in the front on the U-Flycam. But this product is better than everything else there. An example can be found on one of my latest musicvideo: youtube.com/watch?v=51DzZDpABn8 Watch after 1:12 ;-)

great tutorial! I like the way you find CG using pencil. simple but brilliant!
One question, in most of others video they installed longer pole in vertical and two shorter poles in horizontal. what's the different to your setup?

Awesome, very helpful.
I got sick with the manual yesterday - now I see I set it up all wrong, wow :)
Thanks man!

SelcouthFilm 1 year ago
@SelcouthFilm Hey your Canon HV30 weight 243g. My 550D+Lens is 1048g. You need at least ~ 850g I think. Recommend 1kg. You had to put some weights on the top. Be creative ;)
havok2 1 year ago
@havok2 Hey, I checked out the weight of your lens and camera and it was close to 960g (530g camera, 434g lens).
I have a 550d also, but have a Sigma 20mm 1.8 lens on it. My total weight 1050g...
For some reason, I can't get the same results as you do... got any tips?

@hochschieber Kein Ding =) Btw.

The gimble makes everything stay parallel to the ground.
tracyadamsphotograph 1 year ago

Any way I ill really aprecieate your answer, by the way beutiful footage test with U fly cam on your other vid
alexpatton357 1 year ago
@alexpatton357 The Tamron 17-50mm is 212g heavier than your's and I think I uses the minimum configuration for my setup. You had to add some weights on the top, a flash or mic. I mounted the quickreleaseplate with 4 screws and some wood on the top of the plate from the u-flycam. youtube.com/watch?v=aIZvDviRIPM - Hope I could help ;)
havok2 1 year ago
I think I had to build smaller weights for better ballancing with different lenses etc. This shows how it must look in the end. I hope I will help the U-Flycamowners :D I see so many waving videos - this was the reason why I have made it.
havok2 1 year ago
excellent vid, thumbs up, I've balanced my camera first like you did, and that was a great improvement.
I'm using more weight though, because I have the battery grip on...
It's somewhat exhausting my arm strength, but practice will gett smoother vids and a stronger arm - LOL
