I love this level music, I think the (first) best part of this theme is at 0:26 (till 0: 41 and over). It amazes me still how artists and programmers created this great music with so little to work with. I think it has something to do with the enormous pressure the people worked under in those times. It clearly states with 5 channels you can create great music!
The one millon question, why sonic has this music, and all the others Sega Mega Drive games had horrible music? they didnt take advantage of the Mega Drive sound chip, so bad, you can make perfect pieces of music with that :/
@djvreturnsxD Rambo 3 Mortal kombat Puggsy Mega bomberman The punisher theres loads off games that took full advantage off the soundchip mate :-) id say the snes had a superier soundcard but megadrive still had full blown sterio sound :-P
@MrInuhanyou123 true indeed, "welcome to the next level" my brother. ever noticed that the older games we've played as kids are now a lot better than recent games that are being released? they may have better graphic but we had fun playing these games that were fantastic and challenging. btw, have you played games such as mickey mania, quackshot, world of illusions, ristar, sonic spinball eternal champions or even ecco the dolphin by any chance? they are a lot of fun :)
@MrInuhanyou123 by the way i've subscribed to your channel, homie. by the way, does it seems that the games we've played as a kid are now a lot of fun than the ones that are being released recently? by the way , have you played gunstar heroes, eternal champions, ristar or mickey mania by any chance?
@quasimoto270 I've played all of em ^^ hah. I don't personally have anything against new games themselves, but it seems that a lot of people get hung up on graphics and processing power these days instead of focusing on what makes games great. the gameplay
@FoxtrotDeltaLima497 haha yep since i was a little kid playing this game i thought huh? this sounds very familiar to one of those action shooter movies (didnt know the name of that movie jet XD) Awesome memories
I always thought it was called Flying Battery because it was kinda like Robotnik's battery farm, where he kept the poor animals & made them into his badniks.
@KCwellard That can't be dismissed, maybe it was a Flying War factory capable of making and deploying badniks with ease, you know the Russians did that with their T-34s in World War II, mass produced and thrown out to battle!
@RustyHutto1 Because it's also the use of force against another, resulting in harmful or offensive contact. Like "Assault & Battery" from police terms.
I think Act 2 is a little spicier and more excited than Act 1, but unfortunately, it hurts in the ears after a while. Well, they better accustom to that sound! :D
Relax people, I think the theme on this is way overrated ...... .... ...... ..... DAMMIT, I couldnt keep a straight face when I said that. This theme is on my iPod it's so epic.
Whenever I listen to this music it simply blasts away everything else and all I can think about is when times were simple, and Sonic ruled those times. Perfection!
@shalpp Yeah, same here. It's been a while since I've heard this song so when I listened to this, the chimes in the beginning sounded higher than usual and I was like "wtf? why does it sound sharp and off key?" then when I replayed it, it sounded normal. That was pretty weird xD Still an epic song, though.
@Nessplayer90 Rephrase, I would take old sonic games > mario games any day. The OLD sonic games none of this new 3D garbage...god....cept for unleashed and colors those were kinda nice :P
I can't believe that actual games do not have even 1/3 of the quality of the old ones. I mean, c'mon, there are only few games which can be epic both in gameplay and soundtrack... and Sonic & Knucles + Sonic 3 was just like that!
(also, it's amazing how they managed to create 2 songs per each act, of each and every level. It's praiseable I say
(sry for the bad English, "José-Socrates"-style =P)
You gotta bare in mind each song is only a minute or 2 long - its not hard to switch some voices around a 1 minute long track to arrange it into a new one. Not trying o discredit the music, but its not difficult to come up with that many is all i'm saying.
I have played the complete Sonic The Hedgehog 3. No wonder they split the Sonic 3 storyline into two parts. The game is freaking huge. It spans 14 worlds. No joke. It is that long. 1. Angel Island 2. Hydro City 3. Marble Garden 4. Carnival Night 5. Ice Cap 6. Launch Base 7. Mushroom Hill 8. Flying Battery 9. Sandopolis 10. Lava Reef 11. Hidden Palace 12. Sky Sanctuary 13. Death Egg 14. Doomsday
It's so strange how old games like this using cartridge sounds had such classic themes. I mean, I'm sure nostalgia plays a bit in that, but this shit is worlds better than most of the stuff you find in games these days. I don't care if you've never played Sonic before.
Chrono Trigger is another one that had an unreal soundtrack for a cartridge, but the Sonic games will always occupy a special place in my heart. Especially this theme, Death Egg, Carnival Night from S3 and Metropolis from S2.
@Elusareth No, it's just nostalgia. Music is subjective so each person will have their own opinion on what is good music but I think you can still find good music in games today if you bother to listen
@dragondisaster no, actually the old consoles had a limited number of sound channels meaning the composer had to employ very clever part writing often based on baroque contrapuntal principles in order to produce a piece of sufficient interest. essentially a more sophisticated knowledge of composition was mandatory to create great music with four parts, you couldn't just write some garbage, have an orchestra record it and slap it in the game for automatic 'high quality music'
@CielBlanche That may be true about the limited music technology but seriously you cannot judge all music objectively and say this is good and that is bad
@dragondisaster yes, you can. an educated and mature individual of discerning taste can objectively analyse the effectiveness of a work and make a determination as to its quality regardless of whether it is suited to his personal preferences. the haphazard judgement of the ignorant and ongoing assertions of a universal subjectivity are little more than a comfort to those wading in the vast quagmire of mediocrity and ultimately bear no relevance to the ongoing continuum of human creation
when it gets around 0:26 I love it, when I first got this game for christmas of 1994 I use to make it to this level and turn the tv up loud and my grandmother will yell threw the house, turn that TV down boy!! lol I miss the 90s
