  • Chances are this man used what he is showing to fight the japs in WWII. Maybe he isnt showing his most effective moves. Some of the old masters only showed family there most effective moves.

  • Very similar to the Cinco Teros taught in the Inayan System

  • I studied a style similar to this that originated in Pangasinan. It is called Tumba-Tumba Arnis de Mano.

  • wow! thanks for sharing this! awesome fluidity and great block and counter striking applications shown here, really, really great stuff!

  • In the Visayas and Mindanao area we also call Kali as "estocada" and "garote" but more or less of the same principles as Arnis, Escrima or Kali. I believe what is important is not the name bu the system itself.

  • @Aldatsky ..and most importantly, the person and adaptation of technique that works for them individually.

" To fall seven times, to rise eight, life begins there.

  • this is an orgy comprised of power, technique and form. simply just beautiful

  • This is not Balintawak. Balintawak is a closed quarter combat technique. Balintawak is a more recent innovation. His movements show more archaic forms of Kali. So, I see this is CINCO TIROS. First time to hear of it and I'm thankful for the information.

  • @Aldatsky Arnis de Mano, Escrima or baston but never Kali. No one in the Philippines knows or uses the word Kali

  • This is very traditional. If you look at the way he strikes, he strikes the attackers hand and not the stick. This is how it was done before but has to be changed for safety reasons.

  • @amci06042 dont talk shit if u dont know shit about what ur talking pal!

  • @dnbcp666 what shit are you talking about? Is it shit to point out how he is countering? How long have you been practicing this art?

  • Look at the old Filipinio guy with the garote carving up the Karateka. I see some abaniko, doblete and banda y banda techniques in there along with some figure eight.

  • the style of his arnis is balintawak

  • You are misinformed it you think this is Okinawan. It is obviously arnis or arnis escrima (with sticks). Yes, it has been used with a machete, especially against the Japanese in WWII. There is also arnis de mano, which is hand to hand. Arnis has similarities to malay/Indo martial arts like silat. Just look at the disarm techniques.

Besides, doesn't karate mean "empty hand?"

  • You are misinformed if you think this is Okinawan. It's obviously FILIPINO arnis escrima. Arnis escrima (sticks) or arnis de mano has roots in southeast asian martial arts like silat. Just look at the disarm techniques.

And, by the way, karate means "empty hand".

  • super crazy wildly impressive. He can just stand there in medio range and not get touched and obliterate the opponent. wow.

  • Awesome! Thanks for sharing.

  • It's odd that the partners wear traditional karate gi and obi, and do geris. I don't think that this is a south-east asian. It is very much possible that it's some okinawan karate do school. The Ryuku Islands are not so far from the Phillipines, though I never seen typical FMA moves in any karate do style. But still it is is very much possible.

I heared that even the Maori people visited Okinawa, why not warriors from the western islands. Okinawan are very mixed people.

  • @Attilahollo9 they are doing arnis. are you suggesting that filipino martial arts originated from okinawans? lol it is clearly visible that these guys are filipino either in hawaii or the philippines. and the gi, did you know there are filipino martial arts schools that use the gi. because of the fact that we dont have uniforms or belts, the grandmasters could pretty much do whatever they wanted

  • @mac2flip

I assumed only that this video could be made in Okinawa. The master might just visited Okinawa. Or the opposite, Karatekas visited a master in the filipino archipelago. The guys wearing black are doing kicks and stances that are tipical Karate ones. I practiced Karatedo before Kali and it is easy to tell the difference. Just check out the movements and stances of the teacher and the students. A totally different world.

  • @Attilahollo9 Okinawan karate has influence from MANY different countries. It was the trade capital of the Asian world back in the day, so they would have picked up many things and mixed them in with the native arts.

There's proof of people form the Philippines and even as far as West Java doing trade with Okinawa. So just as they traded goods, I am sure they traded Martial Arts. All arts have similarities.

  • Very nice video, but he is holding the stick a little bit "wrong"

  • I think GM Villanueva specializes in Long Sword fighting! I can tell from his long & medium to close countering strikes and feet movement... anyone knows what his Style is? I'm so proud to be Pilipino! Mabuhay ang ARNIS!!!!

  • if someone tries to rob him with a gun or knife, they're in for a treat

  • This is not in Hawaii, this an old place in Sampaloc Manila, where I grew up, his name is Guro Villanueva, I forgot his first name but one of the black belts is Petronio Villanueva of Traditional Kuntao and Traditional Arnis de mano, who happens to be my guro way back in the late 70's and early 80's

  • @rowel817 I happen to know for a fact this this was filmed in Honolulu.

  • Beautiful. True old school FMA. That old gentleman moves with flow that only comes from a whole lot of practice and dedication. He lived well and stayed young at heart thru his art. That is what it is all about in the end. May we all live as he did and pass it on to those who come after us.

  • This is awesome as a child I lived next door to a man who moved just like this.

He had many daughters but no son , so I luck out.

The simple arm bars and the fact that all moves were deadly or to really cause pain I would say this man killed Japanese.

This is really cool , my LOLO made me promise never show this to anyone but my son .

Lolo eyes would get big as he talked of all the evil the Japanese officers did , can't even write it was that bad.

He killed them in there sleep, yeah he was bad

  • this is different from kali,he uses a much longer stick.Must be for long swords.

  • The basics in ridonda.

  • at luneta park, manila phillipines....u'll found a lot of masters like this one in the vid...every sunday afternoon.....look for master roger, see his vid too...master roger at national libruary...tnx

  • kenpo practitioner sudying kali.... tama si GM remy presas ang bilis at husay at galing ng karate at kung-fu ay kalahati lamang sa bilis at bisa ng kaalaman ng mahusay mag arnis. pugay po sa inyo.

  • Awesome footage. This looks a lot like a style of Largo Mano Escrima I studied for about 3 years. Great for long knife, machete, or any weapon of opportunity. Fantastic video.

  • kung spada pa iya ang gi gamit watas watas ka oi......

  • wow incredible speed i wish i may learn this

  • this is shot in waianae, oahu , hi i believe i have this vid from my grandfather who was a grandmaster in hawaii . i believe this is a largo mano style...

  • Thank you

  • This is the reason why I'm proud to be called a Filipino. Mabuhay ang mga pinoy!

  • this old man in the video is a great grand master...hope his stil alive! mabuhay ang pilipino mabuhay ang arnis.

  • People - you have to understand that the sticks are just an extension of the arms. The movements are universal and can be used with sword, knife or even empty hand. FYI: Kali can be used on anything including spoon and fork.

  • @iSTANDMA

    or a PEN

  • This look like it might be the first part of the Subingsubing Kali clip?

  • I don't know about Subingsubing style. But for sure it's a cinco teros. You noticed the five strikes? It's now modern with 15 strikes called MSI (Manaois System International) home base in Los Angeles, CA.

  • No I ment the clip-- Rare 8mm Footage of Subingsubing Kali Demo in Hawiai

  • exelente

  • I love the old footage...

  • Kratos,

FMA does have hand-to-hand training. It just starts with the sticks.

  • you people dont know shit about escrima im not even from there its the worlds most advanced fighting system ever that why the navy seals train it whoa

    respect!!!!

  • O_O, it doesn't really matter that Navy Seals train in this martial art...They need hand-to-hand training no matter what, almost every form of martial art would be useful. Although, getting beat to death with a stick seems a bit more satisfying then with blades.

  • looks a bit Black Eagle-ish...

  • if this was full contact the other guy would be bleeding and bruised, escrima can really do damage...

  • watch fight quest and see episode 2 philippines

  • Do these movements correspond to one handed sword work? The flow of the movements is awesome. To the idiots being disrespectful: this man could carve you up easily.

  • Yes, it's more of a freestyle movements. It corresponds to any styles of swords, sticks, knives, and even empty hand.

  • Thanks Bro!

  • @Jujutsuka4LIfe

Yes, it corresponds to both single and double sword work. The empty hand is more of guiding or redirecting the other person's attack. In other words, it's a back up hand for traps. thank you.

  • @Jujutsuka4LIfe The filipino military does a lot of jungle fighting, so they all train with machetes. I think the stick fighting is meant to complement how you'd use a machete. Notice he's almost always swining, he never thrusts like you'd do with a sword. A machete is meant to be used almost like an axe. And he's always aiming for some vital organ or artery...it's not a defensive style at all, it's just meant to kill very quickly

  • 5 stars.

  • Great video, thanks for posting!

  • yeah ...with the smell of ya breath...we can all hear the dog shit spouting out of it...ooohhhh burned....

  • Blade based style. Amazing flow!

  • Well, if you master his 5 strikes and defend from it... sure, why not claim yourself as a master. Good luck. More power to you.

  • I can swing a stick around too can i be a rare master next? O_o

  • The question is... Can you defend from a stick? If you can't you will be the next REAR master. O_o

  • There's a Dog Bros gathering soon if you wanna test yourself

  • Dumbass if you don't know shit about shit don not disrespect years of work. you wouldn't last 5 minutes in filipino streets

  • You could try.

  • short is not a bad thing, you could use it as an advantage...

  • In the Philippines - short people would look down on you. You won't last a minute with that attitude towards Filipino people. You'll be on the ground in no time. Make sure you don't provoke a race with pure warrior blood. I'll even have your dog for dinner. whoa

  • @iSTANDMA anything else you wanna say? your words fail to offend me...

  • You're making it seem like it's really dangerous living here in the Philippines. Except for a few areas where one should really stay away from, like rebel hideouts and ganglands, just about anywhere in the country is pretty safe. Except for the traffic. :D

  • yeah he's old and out of shape... and I bet he could still whip your behind for being disrespectful. You think you can do better than him, you think you can defend from his movements? hah! I don't think so.

  • he is old and fat

  • It seems as if the style is Cinco Teros (five strikes). Cinco Teros is the founder of Grandmaster Manaois. His son Conrad Manaois modified the style to fifteen strikes and now called MSI or Manaois System International. Email me for more info on Grandmaster Conrad Manaois and/or his style. Me and him are in the process of launching his training video and a book in the future. Thank you all.

  • Its impossible can to exist a camara color before 1950-1960 ? what happen to you!!!!

  • the movements doesn't look ilustrisimo to me...

  • cobrakeister, I train MMA and have done for a while now, Namely Muay Thai, Lutre Livra, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Wrestling, by chance I am also an escrimador, perhaps rather than lambasting the styles you should visit the Phillipines and take part in a full contact stick fight, or maybe try out a dog brothers fight, dont think that just because the old masters are old and maybe not as fit as once they were that the younger fighters are anyless fit or capable as an MMA fighter. Peace

  • MMA the only fight style thats no holds barred but with rules...

ummm does that make any sense ? lot of mma guys talk tough about the uselessness of filipino arts... I dont think the us invented a 45 caliber to fight against the MMA ... or the MMA didnt beat out the spanish in the south, or the MMA would have a chance in hell in mindanao LOL .. MMA are just glorified wrestlers with about 4 moves. Boring !!!

  • well now, I think there's room to learn from both (and everything inbetween) if you will

  • Cobrakeister is the real world martial artist and a champion of them all!! "BEHIND the KEYBOARD"shiver down my spine to opposed such a very tough guy like he is! listen u loser!! how dare you to disrespect kali, and those master arnister, quit being tough and over confident of your self! your defintely a wanna be!!

  • have you seen "real filipino stick fighter best in its class"? its dedicated to all FMA masters

  • Hey fellas, I don't want to offend anyone (hopefully). Dizon and Mercado(uncle of Villabraille) is said to have trained with Ilustrisimo (together). They were all said to be extremely talented. As far as these guys or MMA I just want remind everyone that these arts are a bladed art, which can use sticks, but even then the sticks are camagong or cocobolo (hard, very hard sticks). It would be very hard to defeat a man well trained man with a blade or hardwood stick. Training sticks are rataan,

  • yeah i agree with trueheart4lyfe this looks like kali illustrisimo accept that the footwork looks a little different, then again i(and correct me if im wrong) a portion or possibly all illustrisimo's training did come from the same guy who trained angel cabales (felicisimo dizon-de cuerdas escrima) or was it villabrille i cant remember but , point being yeah the striking movements do look like illustrisimo (cutting motions) but the footwork looks nothing like it (from the footwork ive seen)

  • reminds of kalis illustrisimo

  • super cool!

    I LOVE it!

  • You are crazy!

  • and what would you recommend, since you obviously ARE a real tough guy.

  • No reason to make personal comments. My suggestion would be to stop doing this stuff and start realistic fight training.

  • "no reason to make personal comments"

but, of course my 'personal comments were the same that YOU made, just directed at you.

this is not what I train in, but since YOU are ridiculing it, perhaps you have worthwhile suggestion.

again, what is your definition of 'realistic fight training' and what are your qualifications?

  • see there is a difference.

a self defense situation may or may not involve fit men and may or may not involve going at each other or one of them giving up.

A suprise attack by a weapon and attempting to survive is not equivalent to squaring off and going at it. I know of many stories of small, old, 'unfit' people defending themselves on the street against younger people and weapons.

  • you also didn't mention what your "qualifications" are, and what qualifications and experience you think those 'fat dudes' have ...since you know they pale in comparison to yourself.

  • LOL It can't KO a fighter but it can break bones~ Why don't you go here in philippines and try messing with our arnisadors and see for yourself? Try Watching Fight Science for you to have an Idea What a Kali Stick can do to a human body? =) "In Martial Arts it is better not to underestimate ur opponent...or else it might be your first and last "

  • I dont think it's wise policy or good manners to " try messing " with anybody. But if I had to choose who my attacker would be, I would certainly choose one of those gentlemen, over a professional mma fighter any day.

  • Do you think that humiliating a martial art practitioner because of his physical appearance and underestimating his capabilities is a good manners too? LOL if you want respect then learn how to respect first and stop giving worthless suggestions because "An empty Can makes noise a lot compare to a Can that have lots of stuff inside of it" If ur still determined to know if our arnis sticks can KO an expert MMA practitioner then come here in phil to find out and bring ur prof MMA practitioner =)

  • If empty cans make the most noise then you are one HUGE can.Your posts are longer and more personal than mine.

I realize you are a tough guy, and your stick/sword fighting friends are AWESOME. ROTFLMAO

  • Comment removed

  • My posts is full of meaning and stuffs while yours is short and can be compared as empty because it has no meaning at all~ All I can see in your posts is your amateur suggestions and humiliation~ I wonder what kind of brain you have nor what kind of training you've been....maybe u are trained to give worthless suggestions and how to humiliate a person....Am I right? hahaha~ Think before you speak dumb amateur ^_^

  • OK Mr. Bruce Chan. I can see that your aura alone is deadly. I shiver at the thought of you swinging a stick. You'd be a straight up destoyer of worlds.

  • wow you are very humble and courteous. so what do you practice? who is your teacher?

  • It don't matter what I practice or a practitioner practice. It's the way one person carries himself. Being a Kali practitioner means we have to embrace and respect other styles. That's how we stand and represent ourselves as a good example. i-Stand. do you? with respect.

  • some people like the art part of it. it's fun

  • That's not Leo Giron, is it?

  • The Master performing the tecniques is Braulio Pedoy of the Derobio Eskrima style.

  • My mistake, this isn't Pedoy.

  • great video. the first part of the footage is very likely old school "largo mano"

  • Sweet, Im going to forward the clip to some people that I know. They may be able to help identify the person \ people.

  • is this Villabrille Kali?

  • nice video clip regards from italy

  • that might be Jose Reyes.

  • In the last seconds of this video, the man with the double sticks, I think thats the footage of subing subing. Dan Inosanto trained with Subing Subing, ask him for video.

  • Wonderful footage. Thank you for sharing. More please!

I too would appreciate the link to the Subing Subing footage.

    The Adventure continues,

    Crafty Dog

  • where is the SubingSubing footage?? is it posted?

  • This is a really cool video. Thanks for sharing.

  • Sorry. We don't have any information on this practitioner himself. I got this footage {along with the Subingsubing footage (posted)) from my kenpo instructor who got it from Lontayo (Villabrile Kali). I was hoping that by posting it someone could identify the master and his system.

  • is there a Link to the SubingSubing footage??

  • @sankkaku45 Its Arnis. ALthough Now modern Poeple Use to Sticks In combat when Doing arnis, It was originally an Art Created to protect Oneself with simply Using a Kain, Or any other Near Sub woepon available. Created around the time where the Spanish took over the philipines. Im not sure myself ofcourse But as a Philipino, Im pretty much 75% sure its Arnis :) I dont know who the man is though Sorry ><

  • a great find thanks for shering

i hope some one has some info no the "master" and what sistem this is

  • GREAT POST!

  • Do you have any culture background on this man? His methods and style look very similar to our teacher the late GM Leo Giron from Hermosa,Pangasinan. Cinco Tero,Largamano, Dos Manos, Redonda, using long weapon and strong side forward. Bahala Na Multi-style is teaching this system in CA. Thanks for sharing.
