I am a 3 lingual, I speak English, Spanish and German. I am studying Environmental Science & technology at the Inter American University of Puerto Rico (it's in the seventh CG district). Now here's the thing. I applied for 2 near flotillas. But none of them have called me or even tried to. I even passed the entry tests on one flotilla with a high score, But none of them have even tried to get to me. They're not cooperating with me. Their only leading me to seat around and wait. What can i do?
Wow, sorry to hear that -- I'll see if I can help. Send me a private message on YouTube with your name, email, city/town, and I'll see if I can track down the Personnel Officer in Puerto Rico and find out what is going on. Thanks for getting in touch!
Just wanted to let you know that I am trying to get in touch with someone locally for you. I will let you know what they say, and hopefully we can get things straightened out for you!
Be patient PSI checks take a while. Also when you do get your clearance dont expect to be called. Most Auxiliary Flotillas do not work that way. You will need to work your way in. Attend meetings get to know the flotilla members and offer your help on different projects. Start your training process and start getting qualified. Your help is needed. Biggest thing is to get involved and stay involved as much as you can. It will come just not as fast as you want it to. Capt. Mike SO-CS Div.38cr
Im in the aux in channle islands flotilla77 CA and im 26 I think the reason that there are a large number retirees is because they have a secure income unlike like me im 26 and I dont have alot of time to volenteer and not get paid but when ever I get a chance to serve with the cgaux im there SEMPER PARATUS!
I think a big part of the reason why the Auxiliary has been able to grow younger in some parts of the countries, in Williamsburg and at William and Mary in particular, is because we have figured out how to make part time service work for a new generation. It's an ongoing process, recruiting and training new people, but one that is really paying off in some places.
I don't live near W&M, but I do have a question. I'm really interested in the auxiliary because I'd like to do something good outside my regular office job. I considered the reserves, but the bottom line is that the militaristic lifestyle is not for me. I also don't want to be called up for a year at a time. My only concern is that I will be very out of place because 90% of auxiliarists seem to be senior citizens. Is that really the case?
Thanks for the message! The Coast Guard Auxiliary is indeed a great service--a chance to serve outside of the regular office job without a strict commitment to military life style--and we are all proud to be a part of it. The Auxiliary, in some geographic areas, is home to a large number of retirees, but certainly changing and growing younger every day. There are many opportunities to work with peers and also with active duty. Send us a message if you want to talk more.
