you don't need gloves, or ear protection, i've done it, whats cool its you tape a liter bottle to a rock, and let it sink in like 2 feet deep water at a river, and the water explodes

if you use more water, you will get a quicker explosion, but less powerful. If you use less water an more dry ice, you get a bigger explosion, but it would take longer

should get a 3 liter bottle wrap it with one good layer of duct tape. then put more dry ice and you should get explosion with more combustion power. (note if you put to little duct tape on the bottom and/or to much/little on the top, you might find yourself with a rocket).
