1/3? I hate it when people give statistics and dont explain the "numbers behind the numbers". If you take all the jobs in the country MOST jobs are low wage unskilled jobs at the bottom of the pyramid. So of course 1/3 of the total might have tattoos! And I will bet you the lower you sink the the bottom of the pyramid the higher the number of tattooed workers you will find.

  • I am a Registered Nurse part time and a Teacher with a local school district.I have 17 tattoos but they are not visible at work. That is the key to work acceptance of tattoos.I know other nurses and teachers with tattoos and there probably are a number of executives with tattoos. They just are not in readily visible placement.

  • @MagnumandRobusto if you dont see your tattoo at work because it is covered i wouldnt call that acceptance....because if you went in during your interview them them covered and got that job and everyday you work you cover them up then they probably dont even know you have them...so they are not really accepting the fact you have tattoo's they just dont know you have any

  • I prefer it to be a taboo thing than something in the mainstream.

  • Me too.

I think it's sleazy and has a negative connotation in history. This report is a little sweked. It claims executives have them? Really. How many? 1/50 ? I could go on. I see tattoos as BEHAVIOR they are not race or handicap or somthign you are born with. I worked in several offices and did not see any in the office...

  • tattoos as behavior?

could you explain that one please?

  • Yes. Behavior is self expression. More than that, behavior is a CHOICE we all make (and are free to make). If I strut down the street wearing a pink fluffy jacket with speedos and high hills what behavior am I giving off? If I wear a Armani suit and walk-down the street with confidence - what behavior am I giving off? Tattoos are a form of behavior. In my opinion they say allot about the person wearing them who would vandalize thier body for the sake of fashion.

  • i get what you are saying, however,i have to disagree with the comment in your previous post that tattoos are "sleazy". I am a 23 year old girl with a degree, working my way up a career path, despite the fact that I have many rather large tattoos and 18 piercings. There is nothing sleazy about the subjects of my tattoos or the places in which i had them done,or about my life in general, and this is the case for most if not ALL of the people i know who are into body modification of any description.

  • In my experience it is mainly creative people who are partial to body modification, making a statement about who they are in a permanent way on their skin. While this obviously isnt true in every case I feel that to group all tattoos under the term "sleazy" shows a lack of open-mindedness that while i am aware it still exists in the world today, often makes me wonder why people find it so hard to accept a different choice in lifestyle without terming it as something derogatory,

  • I prefer to employ people who express their individuality, and I have a super-fabulous team of staff. So absolutely, tattoos, piercings, crazy hairstyles... more than fine with me!

  • I "prefer" to employ people with tattoos. Seems discrimination cuts both ways doesn't it? And obviously you are in a job which fits the image. Because if you are in a corporate office job chances are your manager would "prefer" not to hire people with tattoos.

  • ah its so easy to say that but when was the last time you heard someone say that they were turned down for a job because they didn't have any tattoos? when was the last time you heard someone say they were turned down for a job because they do have tattoos. I would guess in your case you've never heard of either because the former doesn't happen, and the latter would be the kind of people you obviously do not associate with.

  • All the time. Give me your email and I will send you a news story.
