Secondly, his plan goes beyond that and the end result will be a single payer system. Well, he said he was for it before. Now in order for me to believe him, I need the president to explain what it was that caused him to change his mind. I want to know what the thought process was. If he legitimately did so, then great. We all change our positions on issues from time to time. I just want to know why he did. Until then, he is simply trying to misrepresent what he is pushing.

He said that he would be for it if there was a 'clean slate' - if there was absolutely no system. He states that it would be too disruptive to implement a universal system because of the existing system.

Who cares what he said in the past. He may have wanted it in the past but he realizes it ain't going fly. So the REALITY is that it's not going to be a single payer system. It will be a government option.
The bill is not going to be about a single payer system. The bill will be about a government option - and you can still keep your current plan.

sure you can keep your plan if you have one...but once HR 3200 is passed will insurance companies be allowed to write new policies? After reading page 16 i have serious concerns that it would not allow new policies to be written and people will be forced into the government plan!

1) That's not what he's said in the past, and it sounds like his biggest "problem" with single-payer is the *transition*, not the system itself.
BUT more importantly
2) The H.R. 3200 bill in the House does not do the things he claims he wants it to, and it does things that *I* don't want it to! ie., force me into the gov't "option" (page 16) and TAX me for not having health insurance (page 167)

Medicare is a government initiated public owned single payer option insurance option created by the Feds to provide affordable insurance and medical care for our seniors. It competes directly with the 'FOR PROFIT' insurance companies, yet they still compete and carry policies on elderly people.

As an adult, I am the "single payer" for the full rainbow of products and services I choose. Nationalizing yet another industry isn't about an "option", but it is lawless. Nowhere in The General Welfare Clause of the US Constitution does it allow for ANY entitlement program.
