Here is the area where some Cosmologists get their minds so confused. They say that at its early stage, the Universe may have started finite in size but at the present time it is possbile that it is infinite in size or in spatial dimension. However, anything that started in finite size cannot become infinte even if the inflationary rate is exponential. Perhaps what they meant is that the Universe will expand without end in time - and therefore Infinite!
