I had this and the AT-AT but the didn't make the damn things to scale...you could just about about squeeze two Imperial storm troopers in snow gear or one storm trooper and one AT AT commander into the head but never the three that you saw in the movie. Also the snow speeder was nearly half as big as the AT-AT so you couldn't fly it into the head kamikaze style..
I used to have this. Only problem was that Kenner/Palitoy frequently got the parts wrong so when you went to assemble the thing, you had e.g. two left engine components instead of a right and a left.
@KaitainCPS Oh my god, I thought I was the only one that that happened to. I was given one on my 7th birthday, and once I had it in my hands there was no way I was going to let my mum take it back to the shop. Going on what you say it would have happened again anyway.
My mum DID take it back, and it turned out that every toy in the store had the same thing: only left engines. I think in the end we just gave up and I had an engine-less speeder. I still loved it.
While I was visiting Scotland in 1986, I managed to buy two snowspeeders from a toy store for only 5 pounds each (equal to about $10 U.S. or $10 Canadian at the time) . I also bought a Rebel transport ship complete with gas masks and backpacks for only 10 pounds and about a dozen figures for only 99 cents each (99 pence). Most stores in 1986 were clearing out their Star Wars merchandise, so there were some great deals.
@TorontoJon Thats awesome ! I remember a toy store here in Alberta had some figures in a bin. I swear there was some Power of the Force figures in there. It would have been about '86 aswell. Of course, I wasnt the one with the wallet or they woulda been coming home with me.
I always wondered why Kenner didn't film the commercials for the Hoth toys in snow. Maybe they were worried kids who didn't live in colder areas would lose interest.
The snowspeeder was one of the best vintage vehicles.
Collectors BEWARE...Yodas Hovel is a scam artist that works from a site called classicstarwarsfigures.c0m He will steal your money so I warn you NOT to buy from him. The Star Wars collecting community don't need scum bag mother fuckas like him ripping people off...BEWARE...
Have you noticed that the American vintage Kenner commercials were nearly all filmed outside, whereas the British vintage Palitoy commercials were all indoors?
That's because in the UK it pisses down with rain so much that filming outside wasn't really an option!
If you have to get a second job to afford some toys I wouldn't reccommend having children. I think toys help fuel imagination during childhood, and encourage creativity.
@xalstarx you mean terrence stamp, christopher lee, ian mcdiarmid, ewan mcgregor and liam neeson? no. i think you mean hayden and that kid from episode 1.
@pacificimporters Let's face it, the entire cast - regardless of their status as actors in previous films - were so lifeless, they ended up being outshined by the voice of Frank Oz and a CGI Yoda.
I was looking for this for so long in stores, and when i finally found one at a toys r us , my mom wouldn't buy it for me =( this was like one of the rarest of the star wars replica toys.
When we were kids, scale wasn't that much of an issue. A five inch guy could fit in a quarter inch cockpit no worries. A 12" snowspeeder would warrant... maybe a 24" AT-AT. We wouldn't have cared. Just enough to be "bigger".
The snow speeder toys were awsome. But the harpoon cable didnt go four times around an AT AT.

Like how the announcer says its the Empire Strikes Back Collection. Makes it sound more artistic and collectors worthy. Which of course they are.

The Australian commercial had kids playing in sand. They even gave the "Echo station fox seven we're on our way" line

Amen, brother!
My parents rejoiced with our love of SW toys. They didn't have to wonder what to get us for years to come.
The first rule my mom had to learn...
"there's no such thing as not needing another Stormtrooper."
She crammed the stocking with 'em! They were happy, we were happy... what the hell is Bromide's problem?

I agree, my old man LOVES to buy me like, a figure every few days, and when I save up money, he always lets me go to the store to buy a few figures
