I've heard straight piping an rx8 without the cat doesn't open the 5th exhaust port. That's just what I've heard idk of it's true never looked into it my self

Those things are much louder in person. I was at Buttonwillow raceway on open track day and let me tell you, for miles all you could hear was the WAAAAAAAAAAAP of those straight pipe rotaries

frostbytes89 at the time it was just str8 from the header then i realized that i wasnt gettting enuff hp from the lack of back pressure now that i have a cat i gain a little bit of the hp back from what i lost but im better off wit a high flow cat and a greddy cat back.

@flashofred2004rx8 You're wrong. Rotaries, unlike piston motors, do run better completely unrestricted. If you noticed a loss of power feom removing the cat, you were doing something differently or it was in your head.

You can't have a straight pipe on a 6 port, it won't have enough back pressure to open up the 5th and 6th ports, thus, robbing you of high end horsepower.

@firechicken76 the 13b-ren doesnt need a whole lot of back pressure and lacks torque any way and plus whith any rotary its high rpms that make the power.
