Andy Dunkley RIP. Sadly passed away on Saturday 30th April 2011. You'll be missed by all of us - you lived life to the full with no compromise. A brilliant human being.
The song is "Lost Johnny" it's on Motorheads first album "On Parole" I think. Can't remember if or what Hawkwind album it was on. It's possible they didn't release it so Lemmy did.
I loved the UA years, classic hawk stuff but they just get better, brilliant musicians all of them who joined them over the years and decades. I would love to see the Hawks bring out a triple based on their philosophy of space time aliens mother earth and humanity... all this pieces are there just knit them together. I would do it myself but I'm busy with my own books on the Holy Grail. Enoch U R Late!
Space Ritual is utterly PIVOTAL for me personally. A rich massive sound and driving riffs. As a bassist myself it gives an object lesson in pushing and driving basslines. I could go on all night here.......
It doesnt matter how many times i listen to the piece of song at the start of the vid, it just never gets old. I could listen to it on repeat for hours, the hairs on the back of my neck stand up and get a warm glow inside lol
its a shame the bbc4 show wasnt balanced by the story from Richard, Dave . Niks story is intetresting but there is the other story that bbc4 should have balanced it with.
Come on lemmy a quid till friday. Havn't seen the felix the cat video from levitaion tour yet anyone finds it buzz me Its black and white at the dentisit
wait, in canada speed is legally a food?? in a diff interview with lemmy he said they thought it was coke and since the court had false info they had to let him of free even tho speed is illigal to
NO, meth is only technically legal as food in Oregon and Washington, USA: Trust me, I know, either that or their or we have the most burnt out Winnebagos!!!
strange! just borrowed a cheap metal sampler from my girlfriend and somehow most of the bands on it are somehow connected- hawkwind, motörhead, girlschool, new model army...
Silver machine !, sorry for being a bit thick there lol. Its actually unreal, can't believe i haven't heard this before. Where can i find the exact version of it on this film, it just doesn't sound as good anywhere else
My Neighbour told me that he saw them in 1972 in Sittard at the Schouwburg, but they were so high didn't couldn't play Silvermachine anymore. All the people were waiting and were tripping hahahaha
Great to see Hawkwind on YouTube, terrific upload :) My Jamaican parents would have disowned me or cut my throat if they heard me wailing on about them as a kid back in 1972! I love all great music, whatever genre. Silver machine always reminds me of those toffee apple days at the local travelling fairground with biker lads wolf-whistling many Stacia glammed up lookalike schoolgirls giggling on the merry go-round :) heady days indeed...
hope you get part 7 up soon. I'm still confused as to why Nik and Dave were at odds during this?
Got to meet Nik at the Reunion gig at Brixton academy in 2001 or something like that. They were before my time but i've tried to get as many albums of there's that I can I fecking love em'
I was just listening to Space Ritual on my way back from work today, and last night coming back ( 1hour drive) from my masters degree class. I am into punk, but Hawkwind will always have a place in my heavy rotation list. Lemmy's bass playing is agressive and mean. Lemmy is a bass god! Play Space Ritual LOUD, it totally fuckin' rules!
aah... Hawkwind is the most underestimated group... there influence was HUGE... some songs sound like pre-metallica... pre-almpost ANY famous rockband of the 80s 90s... weird weird... no one knows hawkwind, everyone knows there 'offsprings'... and thinks the offsprings invented it... same with michael jackson who got it from james brown... or even beethoven and mozart, who got it from Haydn!!! (The latter ALSO very underestimated!)
I've lived in Canada since Nov '72 and never saw Hawkwind (Motorhead 4 times) here, did do some acid to a Psychedelic Furs gig coz they had Hawkwinds old light show.
As an American, (Salem New Hampshire), born in 1974, I can't thank whoever put this up enough. There have been NO oppertunities to see Hawkwind live, and their albums are out of print. There's like, me and 3 people on the internet in this country who give a shit about this stuff. Thank you.
You can still get their albums. I have bought them all on record and again on CD and I was born in 71 born raised and live in Montreal Canada where everything was french and horrid! try Amazon!
@DevSodDribble Man, they play at about every festival in Europe and all their albums are still for sale...Can't imagine that you can't find their stuff in the US?
@atzenanu A lot of British bands like Hawkwind and Slade just never 'made it' in the US, hence it was always incredibly difficult to find their stuff. Nowadays you can download a lot of these albums, but in the past, it meant scouring secondhand record stores for hours, or paying huge import fees.
@DevSodDribble There are other young people out there who like hawkwind im sure of, And I think they still play live..Which makes it more powerfull if you ever go to a show, Hawkwind still reminds me of liking metallica in 1984, nobody heard of them and if they did they automaticly hated em//No shit, I mean mettalica has been top 40 since 1990, And used to be called speed metal before 86..But some of those were best concerts because of the few and the proud that were into it and really loved it.

Dave Brock declined to appear in the documentary because of Nik Turner's participation. We can only wonder what his contibution would have been.
