@honeybomb101 It's a hearing aid. He got meningitis (sp?) and lost his hearing because of an infection and swelling in his brain. There's clips of him with his mom and dad afterwards dealing with the aftermath of losing his hearing. You should check those out. Bryton McClure has amazing chemistry with his former on-screen mother Victoria Rowell.

I stopped watching Y&R for a while an then all this is happening ?....Wow, CBS soaps actually try to put Black characters on and attempt to give them a storyline. even though this scene didn't seem to have much chemistry, I am fully intrigued and will attempt to start watching again, I just hope these characters arent completely phased out by now.....anyone want to give me insight on this ?

A new black woman, Sofia DuPree has been brought in and Malcolm recast with a horrible actor that doesnt fit the role.

sorry it is a real implant, it is just not implanted into the actual skull like it would be normally since it is just for this role...he does not wear one in real life...I think Devon (the character) lost his hearing as a side effect to meningitis
